Contributor Sammy Key Reports On Vans Warped Tour For EIY

Contributor Sammy Key has been giving us BD Music readers some great articles, from her ratings of the Saw Soundtracks to her interview with Anthony Raneri to her 5 Greatest Rock N’ Roll Frontwomen. She has definitely shown her passion for horror and music. Sammy recently was chosen to be a press correspondant for Earn It Yourself at the Vans Warped Tour in Hartford, CT. Below is an excerpt and a link to the full review.

Ah, the Vans Warped Tour. I, like many other kids my age, have been making this yearly summer pilgrimage to the altars of dusty parking lots, one-day-only stages and the God-like musicians who grace them since the ripe young age of thirteen. And I think that’s how many of the tour’s attendees think of the festival that is a huge cornerstone to summer – as a vaguely spirtual experience. On the drive up to Hartford, one of my best friends, Steph, and I joked about our date of the tour being held on a Sunday. “It’s like we’re on our way to church!” I said to Steph as we navigated our way to Hartford. She turned to me and said, “Well…we sort of are!”

Every Time I Die Starting Weekly Video Blog

Every Time I Die have just posted their teaser of “Shit Happens: The Series?” at www.vans.com/ETID. The teaser is recap of their previous releases (including cult classic “Shit Happens”, “Party Poopers” and “The Dudes and Don’ts of Recording”). The first full episode will air on July 28th! This will be a first in a series of new weekly episodes entitled “Shit Happens: The Series?”

The series finds Every Time I Die teaming up once again with Space Monkey Studios. Over the next 12 weeks, Every Time I Die will unveil episodes that are packed to the gills with impromptu footage showcasing the band’s signature brand of humor that has made them infamous amongst their fans and peers alike.  This is by no means a scripted reality show containing foreseeable plot twists and over-dramatic story arches. Nor is this your typical live band DVD that focuses on the tedium of tracking a record or the self-congratulatory tales of what inspired their lyrics.  Instead, “Shit Happens: The Series?” focuses on what it is exactly that drives 5 individuals from similar backgrounds to forfeit family and friends and take to the road year after year for the sake of their craft. Whether you’re a fan of music or simply an admirer of the nomadic spirit that resides in all of us, “Shit Happens: The Series?” will make you feel at home.

Terrible Things Debut Album Out Aug. 31st

When arson claimed the homes of over 40 families in his hometown of Coatesville, Pennsylvania from 2008 to 2009, the emotional trauma of the tragedy spurred Fred Mascherino (ex-Taking Back Sunday) to pick up his guitar and start penning music for his new all-star supergroup Terrible Things, which includes Josh Eppard (Coheed & Cambria) and Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit). Their self-titled major label debut will be released on August 31, 2010 via Universal Motown and was produced and mixed by Jason Elgin (Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, Collective Soul) and mastered by Roger Lian (Bayside, Coheed & Cambria). “The album cover is metaphoric to what was going on in my town last year and it was actually pretty emotional for me watching that house go up in flames,” Fred says of the image of his two children having a tea party while a nearby dollhouse is engulfed in flames. Fortunately for Terrible Things, the only thing that will be on fire will be the band, as they blaze a trail this Summer for a handful of shows on the 2010 Vans Warped Tour and October dates supporting Mae (tour dates inside).

Polar Bear Club About To Set Out On Biggest Tour To Date

The next few months will most likely be a blur for Rochester/Syracuse, NY  band Polar Bear Club. After a 24 city tour that takes them from the US to Canada and back again, they play Bamboozle and then spend their summer on the Vans Warped Tour. This past Summer the band had the honor of playing the Reading Festival in England with the likes of Rise Against, Anti-Flag and Municipal Waste. The band is currently on Indie label Bridge Nine Records, but there is no telling if there could be major label consideration by the conclusion of their busy 2010, or sooner for that matter.
