But what starts off as a search for an ideal, gradually escalates into a rampage of hate, violence and self-destruction.

Abandoned as a baby on the steps of a monastery and raised in strict Capuchin fashion, Ambrosio has become the most famous preacher in the country. While large crowds from all over the country come to hear his mesmerizing sermons, he’s also bitterly envied for his success by certain fellow monks.

Convinced of his virtue and righteousness, Brother Ambrosio thinks he is immune to temptation…

Until obscure events start terrorizing the monastery. Could they be connected to the unexpected arrival of Valerio, an apprentice monk who has the miraculous gift to relieve Ambrosio’s splitting headaches and hides his disfigured face under a wax mask?

We’ve got a brand new NSFW clip for The Monk, the supernatural thriller adapted from Matthew G. Lewis’ classic cult novel.

In the film, “Abandoned at birth at the gates of a Capuchin monastery in Madrid, Brother Ambrosio (Vincent Cassel), raised by the friars, grows up into a preacher admired far and wide for his fervor. Ambrosio is feared for his righteousness and believes he is immune from temptation – until the arrival of a mysterious apprentice undermines his convictions and leads him down a dangerous path of sin, corruption and murder.

Starring Black Swan‘s Vincent Cassel, and directed by Dominik Moll, The Monk will be in select theaters, On Demand, and available for download starting Friday, March 8.

[EFM '12] ‘Silent Hill’ Director Tells Darker ‘Beauty in the Beast’

Christophe Gans (Silent Hill, Brotherhood Of The Wolf) is to make a new version of Beauty And The Beast, Screen Daily reports from Berlin.

The film will star the great Vincent Cassel (Black Swan, Out Day Will Come, Sheitan) and Lea Seydoux (Inglourious Basterds), and will be produced by Richard Grandpierre.

Details of plot and what approach the new film will take are skimpy but Gans said: “Although I will keep to a form of storytelling of this timeless fairy tale that is in keeping with the same pace and characters as the original, I will surprise the audience by creating a completely new visual universe.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Black Swan’

After a more than satisfying character piece and study on the subject of artistic peaking and anxiety, Darren Aronofsky returns to the world of performers with Black Swan, a companion piece to The Wrestler that covers similar ground in some extraordinarily different ways. In some respects, it’s a prequel to the Mickey Rourke starrer; instead of focusing on the death and rebirth of an entertainer’s career, we’re given a glimpse into the life of a struggling up-and-comer dying to start one. It’s true that many films have covered the same subject, but I guarantee you’ve never seen it presented in quite the same way.

“Swan” centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.

On Christmas Eve, a group of young guys meet two gorgeous girls who invite them to spend the weekend in the country, where they meet Joseph (Vincent Cassel, Ocean’s Twelve, Irreversible), a creepy, unkempt man whose pregnant wife remains hidden in the large house. That evening, what begins innocently as Christmas dinner turns into disturbing conversations about sex, satanic possession, and incest. Joseph’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and the young friends realize their host has made a pact with the devil and all hell is about to break loose.

Indeed they beast became so notorious that the King of France dispatched envoys to find out what was happening and to kill the creature. By the end, the Beast of Gevaudan had killed over 100 people, to this day, no one is entirely sure what it was, wolf? hyena? or something supernatural? Whatever it was, shepherds had the same life-expectancy as the red-suited guys in ‘Star Trek’.
