Are You An Engineer? Then ‘Pacific Rim’ Needs You

Warners has released yet, yet, yet, another viral image for Guillermo del Toro’s (apparently awesome) Pacific Rim. This one beckons for engineers to join the war effort.

In the film, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Viral Video For ‘The Host 2′ Takes The Loch Ness Approach!

There’s an apparent (unconfirmed) viral video floating around for The Host 2, the sequel to Bong Joon-Ho’s amazing The Host. Actually, even if it isn’t “official” it still qualifies as viral promotion, doesn’t it? Perhaps even more so? Anyway it takes a look at the events of the first film through a semi-documentary lens that sort of reminds me of people trying to prove the Loch Ness Monster exists.

The Host 2 has been written by Im Pil-sung and will be directed by Park Myung-chun, who will be making his feature debut. There will be TWO monsters in the movie.

It’s expected out in early summer 2014. READ MORE

Warners has released another viral image for Guillermo del Toro’s (apparently awesome) Pacific Rim, this time creating a propaganda style poster to recruit people into the Jaeger (giant robot) training program.

More Viral ‘Pacific Rim’ Imagery Not Very Catching

Warners has released even more “viral” marketing for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, this time warning of Kaiju in Japanese. Still want to see the movie, still unmoved by the campaign. I can’t wait for the Wondercon footage.

The pic comes from the twitter account of Jacob Degloshi.

In theaters this Friday, October 19 from Catfish duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the cast is said to feature Katie Featherston, Kathryn Newton, Matt Shively, Brady Allen, Alisha Boe and Tommy Miranda.

In the sequel, “It has been five years since the disappearance of Katie and Hunter, and a suburban family witness strange events in their neighborhood when a woman and a mysterious child move in.

Possessed Woman Speaks Four Languages In Latest ‘Devil Inside’ Clip

Possessed Woman Speaks Four Languages In Latest Devil Inside Clip

Taking cues from every exorcism flick in existence, Paramount Insurge has released a new clip from The Devil Inside that depicts the possessed women speaking in four different languages. Been there, done that, always kinda cool…

In addition, the studio has released an iPhone app for the Brent Bell-directed exorcism flick that can be downloaded on iTunes. It asks “Is the Devil inside you?” Find out if you’re possessed with the app.

In theaters January 6, “Her entire life, Isabella Torelli believed her mother brutally murdered three people because she was clinically insane. After being told the murders occurred during an exorcism she sets out to discover the truth. While documenting her experience with a film crew in Italy, she becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms.READ MORE

A Kinda Meh ‘The Devil Inside’ Holiday Greeting

A Kinda Meh The Devil Inside Holiday Greeting

Paramount Insurge has given MTV a kinda stupid holiday greeting card for Brent Bell’s The Devil Inside, their exorcism flick opening in theaters January 6, 2012. The video plays like a video greeting card with a screaming woman at the end. The concept appeared to be heading in the right direction, but kind of missed their own sentiment that if God exists, so does the Devil. Whatever, the movie looks cool and that chick is all kinds of crazy creepy.

In 1989, emergency responders received a 9-1-1 call from Maria Rossi (Suzan Crowley) confessing that she had brutally killed three people. 20 years later, her daughter Isabella (Fernanda Andrade) seeks to understand the truth about what happened that night. She travels to the Centrino Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Italy where her mother has been locked away to determine if her mother is mentally ill or demonically possessed. When she recruits two young exorcists (Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth) to cure her mom using unconventional methods combining both science and religion, they come face-to-face with pure evil in the form of four powerful demons possessing Maria. Many have been possessed by one; only one has been possessed by many.READ MORE

[Review] Ryan Daley Says ‘Bag of Bones’ Has No Bite

BagBones120211 [Review] Ryan Daley Says Bag of Bones Has No Bite

Heed our warning….

There just wasn’t a whole lotta hype behind A&E’s
Bag of Bones, their miniseries adapted from a Stephen King novella and directed by king regular Mick Garris. Even I didn’t set my dvr. Ryan Daley turned it off halfway through and picked up a rerun in order to tough through for the following review.

Let’s be honest, there no way that even the juiciest of gore was ever gonna save an endeavor as silly as ‘Bag of Bones’, an adaptation that was destined to be weak sauce from the very beginning. It’s one of those King movies that’s all bark and no bite. And it never really had any bark to begin with.”

Screen Gems Loads ‘Viral’ Terror From Student Project

Sony Screen Gems has picked up rights to a creepy student-made short entitled Viral with the plan of spinning it into a feature, reports Heat Vision.

The pickup is a coup for Tim Shechmeister, a recent UCLA film school grad who directed the short and co-wrote it with his brother, Matt Shechmeister, as part of a thesis project. The Shechmeisters will co-write the feature and Tim would direct the big-screen version.

The roughly 11-minute short is set in the world of cyberbullying and eventually includes supernatural elements.” In fact, the story could be described as being reminiscent of The Grudge or The Ring, but primed for the current generation that uses smart phones and Facebook as extensions of themselves.

The Grudge reference is apt because that movie’s writer, Stephen Susco, discovered the short at a screenwriting event this past summer. Tim Shechmeister, who is also a fan of Japanese horror (AKA J-Horror), gave Susco his business card with a link to the short, which the scribe checked out and loved. Susco brought it to Grudge producer Roy Lee who, along with Lawrence Grey, took it to Screen Gems. The trio will now produce. John Middleton will exec produce. READ MORE

The Woman in Black Viral Website Uses Motion Capture...

CBS Films has launched a pretty lame Halloween viral for The Woman in Black that uses motion capture technology as part of the experience. It’s very “one note”.

WhatDidTheySee.com invites users to take a look inside Eel Marsh House and discover the answer to “What did they see?” Visitors have only a partially obscured view, just enough to see through the doorway and into this young girl’s room. By using motion recognition with the computer’s webcam, visitors to the site can shift their perspective within the room by simply moving right & left in front of their own computer to see what lurks behind the door and in the shadows. No matter how scared you get (and you totally won’t), expect to receive your own customized photo, compliments of The Woman in Black.

[OMFG] Paramount Uses Paranormal As Launchpad for Creepy New Franchise: The Devil Inside!!

Opening in theaters January 6, 2012 is Paramount Pictures’ latest micro-budget franchise starter, The Devil Inside, which comes from director and co-writer William Brent Bell (Stay Alive). TIFF ’11: ‘Lovely Molly’ Viral Clip and Creepy Image Tease Return of Baphomet

Just getting back to my hotel at TIFF, sitting in front of my door was package featuring a creepy postcard with a symbolic pin driven through a horse’s head, alongside a clip. Looking through the genre films at the fest, it became clear to me that the viral goodies were from Lovely Molly, Blair Witch Project co-creator Eduardo Sanchez’s horror film starring Johnny Lewis and Alexandra Holden. Inside you’ll find the clip that appears to discover a lair where the worship of Baphomet had taken place. Baphomet is an imagined pagan deity, revived in the 19th century as a figure of occultism and Satanism.

When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. She soon begins an inexorable descent into evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.
