“Vlad” centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth.
All has been quiet on Summit’s Vlad – which was in development before the studio’s public announcement in late 2009 – until today, when MTV published information from an interview they conducted with director Anthony Mandler last week.
Recently signing onto Die In A Gunfight, the music video helmer said that he is “deep into ‘Vlad,’ the origin story of Dracula… I think kind of shortly things are going to start unfolding.” He also added that he “[has] a rewrite that the story loves (?) and we’re optimistic as to our casting. I can’t talk about that yet.”
An informal announcement about making an announcement. Incredible.
Zac Efron has been cast in Die In A Gunfight, leading some to believe that the up-and-comer (who I spotted in an episode of Firefly yesterday) might have a part in Vlad after Mandler compared the future of the star’s career to that of Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp’s. Only time will tell.
With Cassie and Vlad M.I.A in Eminence Indiana, it is going to be up to the rest of the “HACK/SLASH” Inc. crew to defend their home town from the treacherous Sheriff Maggie as Tim Seeley and image Comics look to release the third installment in the series this Wednesday. Beyond the break you can check out a 5 page preview of the ish and get all the details before it hits store shelves April 20th. Read on for the skinny…
One of the things that makes Tim Seeley and Daniel Leister’s “HACK/SLASH” so endearing is the fact that it is always conscious of the events of the real world, and isn’t afraid to take a ‘stab’ at them in the way only Seeley and Leister can. (You thought we were going to say boobs, didn’t you? Perverts.) The perfect example of this is the newly released advance cover artwork for some of the upcoming issues of the monthly from Image Comics, one of which featuring the loose likenesses of the “JERSEY SHORE” cast. Below you can check out the covers and see for yourself.
As Tim Seeley and Daniel Leister’s “HACK/SLASH” continues to make strong showings on the sales charts, one would begin to wonder if the acquisition of the series by Image Comics could be the comic book equivalent of the Lou Brock trade of the 1960′s. (Baseball reference…anybody?) Inside you can check out a brand spankin’ new 6 page preview of the second issue that hits stands this week. Read on for the skinny!
Tim Seeley continues to bring fans of his ever popular ‘HACK/SLASH’ series more and more fun spin-offs and one-shots every year, and one of the common themes thus far this year for the scribe has been crossovers. To add to the already announced ‘ZOMBIES VS CHEERLEADERS’ crossover, today Dynamite Entertainment announced that they had teamed up with Seeley to bring fans ‘HACK/SLASH-EVA’ later this year. Below you can get all the details as well as the advance cover art.
“Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce that Tim Seeley’s most famous creation, Hack/Slash, will be crossing-over with Eva, the daughter of Dracula, in May 2011 at Dynamite Entertainment in a four-issue mini-series, with covers by Tim Seeley himself!
“I’m excited for the opportunity to see what Brandon Jerwa and the people at Dynamite have in store for Cassie and Vlad as she goes head to head with their monster fighting hottie,” says Hack/Slash creator Tim Seeley. “I am very protective of my creations, but when approached by Dynamite with this idea, it seemed like a natural fit to have a cross-over with Eva.”
“Now THIS is exciting. Tim and I came up in comics together with a healthy run on G.I. Joe, then both spun off into our own careers after that,” says writer Brandon Jerwa. “It’s been too long since we’ve worked together in any capacity. Now, he’s trusting me with Hack/Slash – his rude, sexy, violent baby – and Dynamite is giving me a chance to bring Eva, Daughter of the Dragon back to comics as well. I’m pretty sure they just got tired of hearing me ask “what about Eva?!” once a month for the last couple of years. This crossover is fun for all the right reasons, and I’m definitely enjoying the chance to cut loose (get it?) in the world of slasher-slayers and monster-hunters. This ride’s gonna be loud and bloody, and no safety gear will be issued.”
“I have always had an incredible admiration for Brandon Jerwa’s writing,” says Dynamite President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. “We are fortunate to have such a tight relationship with Tim Seeley that he is allowing a cross-over with us on Hack/Slash.”
“Brandon [Jerwa] last wrote Eva in the “Daughter of the Dragon” one-shot (well worth seeking out if you haven’t read it),” says Dynamite Editor Joe Rybandt. “We’re raising the stakes here on all fronts with the Hack/Slash cross-over, amping up the violence and mayhem and showing a true dichotomy across character types, with Eva and Cassie standing at opposite ends of the spectrum.”
Hack/Slash is a comic books series, created by writer/penciler Tim Seeley. The focus of the series is on a horror victim, Cassie, who strikes back at the monsters, known as “slashers”, with Vlad, a disfigured “gentle giant” who frequently wears a gas mask. READ MORE
With Cassie’s “FIRST MANIAC” out of the way, series creator and scribe Tim Seeley can now focus on getting back into the series he left off months ago with his old publisher’s Devil’s Due within the pages of the first official issue of “HACK/SLASH” from Image! The book went on sale today, but inside you can get a look at a third variant cover and a 5 page preview. Read on for the skinny!
A lot of people missed Cassie hack’s hulking sidekick Vlad in the latest story arc of Image’s newly acquired ‘HACK/SLASH’ title, ‘MY FIRST MANIAC’, but thanks to Seeley & Co. the brute will be returning on January 5th for his very own one-shot entitled ‘ME WITHOUT YOU’! The story will explore the character before his connection with Cassie, and for those of you die-hards who have been waiting for years to get a look into Vlad’s past you won’t want to miss this one. Details below.

“The follow-up to the Hack/Slash: My First Maniac mini-series, Hack/Slash: Me Without You reveals the origin of comicdom’s favorite hulking sidekick. Before Vlad roamed the country, battling slashers with Cassie Hack, he haunted the alleyways of Chicago as the living urban legend, the Meat Man. But even a cleaver-wielding monster gets lonely, and Vlad’s quest to find out who he really is will lead him on a bloody path!”
