Full Length ‘Europa Report’ Trailer Teases Mysterious Horror Near Jupiter

The official trailer for Sebastian Cordero’s sci-fi horror flick Europa Report reminds me a lot of the sci-fi movies I’d rent on VHS around 1996-97. Which is to say it has a little bit of that low budget Event Horizon vibe.

Penned by Philip Gelatt, the film tells of “a group of astronauts, handpicked from around the world, who make the arduous journey to Jupiter’s frigid, glacial moon Europa in search of extraterrestrial life. The only thing more intimidating and unpredictable than the trip itself is what the team will encounter upon arrival…” The film stars District 9‘s Sharlto Copley alongside Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo, and Karolina Wydra.

It opens June 27th on VOD and in theaters Aug 2nd from Magnet Releasing. READ MORE

Trailer For ‘V/H/S/2′ Features TONS Of Bloody Chaos!!!

We finally get a full length trailer for V/H/S/2 and it’s worth the wait! As someone who really liked most of the original film, I’ve got no problem telling you that V/H/S/2 is much, much better. It’s tighter, shorter, leaner and a rock solid viewing experience. It’s also gory, chaotic and fun as hell – which this trailer certainly represents!

Acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS, V/H/S/2 will be arriving on VOD platforms June 6 with a theatrical rollout set for July 12. In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

Absolutely Gorgeous And Violent New ‘Maniac’ Poster By Jeff Proctor!

Only 6 weeks until I can see Franck Khalfoun’s Maniac (which Mr. Disgusting calls a masterpiece), starring Elijah Wood. It hits select theaters and VOD platforms June 21. In the remake, “Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank (Wood) is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. Something Is Very “The Matter” With This Clip From ‘Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal’

In theaters and on VOD today, April 5 is Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal. Directed by Baran bo Odar, and starring Ulrich Thomsen, Wotan Wilke Möhring, Sebastian Blomberg, Katrin Sass and Burghart Klaussner, we now have a new clip from the film that features a Sheriff interrogating a cannibal and his friend. I haven’t seen this movie, but I’m not sure it’s for me.

When Lars’s art dealer Ronny arranges a teaching job in a small town as a “therapeutic measure” to stir up his creative juices, things don’t quite turn out as planned. At first, life in the peaceful small town seems rosy, as he settles in and impresses beautiful fellow colleague Leslie (Georgina Reilly) by taking in the brawny, mute Eddie (Dylan Smith) after the latter’s caregiver passes away. But Lars soon discovers that the façade of serenity hides something unimaginable: Eddie suffers from a rare form of sleepwalking that transforms him from a docile, cereal-obsessed art student into a ravenous sleepwalkingcannibal. Initially horrified by Eddie’s dark secret, Lars becomes enthralled by the not-so-gentle giant. Exceptional art comes at a very high price…and how far is Lars willing to go for his next masterpiece?

5 Questions With ‘Thale’ Director ‘Aleksander Nordaas’!

XLrator Media is in the middle of its rollout for writer/director Aleksander NordaasThale. It opens in theaters tomorrow and hits DVD/VOD on April 23rd. I was surprised by the film, which takes an intimate look at a mythical creature in an intense, confined space. I recently hopped on the phone with Nordaas to talk about his approach to working in such a tight spot, whether or not he grew up with the lugend of the Huldra and how he coaxed such a visceral performance out of Thale herself, Silje Reinamo.

Starring Morten Andresen, Erlend Nervold, Jon Sigve Skard, and Silje Reinamo as Thale, “Two crime-scene cleaners discover a mythical, tailed female creature in a concealed cellar. She never utters a word, unable to tell her story, but the pieces of the puzzle soon come together: she’s been held captive for decades for reasons soon to surface.

New ‘Maniac’ Still A Dressed Down Take On The Poster

[Interview] ‘My Amityville Horror’ Director Eric Walter On Daniel Lutz And Searching For The Truth

I just watched director Eric Walter‘s documentary, My Amityville Horror, yesterday prior to interviewing him and I was surprised by how much I liked it. In particular, Walter pulls off a difficult feat in engaging the very temperamental Daniel Lutz, something he managed to do over a period of months without ever losing his objectivity on his subject. Walter and I spoke at length about the effect the real-life Amityville saga has had on Daniel Lutz and whether or not he believes the claims the Lutz family has made over the years. The answer, like most things in real life, is complicated.

For the first time in 35 years, Daniel Lutz recounts his version of the infamous Amityville haunting that terrified his family in 1975. George and Kathy Lutz’s story went on to inspire a best-selling novel and the subsequent films have continued to fascinate audiences today. This documentary reveals the horror behind growing up as part of a world famous haunting and while Daniel’s facts may be other’s fiction, the psychological scars he carries are indisputable.” Laura DiDio and Lorraine Warren also make appearances.

The film hits limited theaters and VOD today, March 15th from IFC. If you have any interest at all in the Amityville story it’s a must watch, so check your local listings or hit up SundanceNOW, Xbox, iTunes, PS3 and others. Head inside for the interview! READ MORE

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane

The Incredible ‘All The Boys Love Mandy Lane’ Finally Getting A North American Release!!!

Nice! I guess the fact that director Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies is nearing a $100M global take doesn’t hurt things, but All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (read our review) is a damn good movie on its own and is finally going to be legit available to all of our North American readers. That’s right, almost seven years after The Weinstein Company bought the film (and insanely shelved it) it’s finally coming out.

In an interesting turn of events, Radius-TWC has wrangled up the rights. The “TWC” there stands for the “The Weinstein Company.” Years after they decided they didn’t know what to do with the film and sold it to Senator Entertainment (who subsequently went bankrupt) they’ve sort of bought it again! See what Levine and produce Keith Calder had to say about the turn of events inside.

The film, starring the absolutely gorgeous Amber Heard, “is about a group of high-schoolers who invite Mandy Lane, “a good girl” who becomes the object of everyone’s affection after returning from summer break, to a weekend party on a secluded ranch. While the festivities rage on, the number of revelers begins to mysteriously drop one at a time.

Due out this summer, Mandy Lane will be released theatrically at least in the top 50 markets and simultaneously be released on VOD. READ MORE

In it, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars.

[Closer to Death] What Exactly Is A Revenant?

Most of you reading this are amply privy to the plethora of variations within the family of “the undead”. Zombies, spectres, ghosts, vampires – the list goes on and on. But what about the revenant? Are you familiar? Enough to be able to explain the difference to your friends?

With The Revenant coming out in theaters and on disc soon, its time to take a look at what makes this legendary blood sucking creature of the night different from the zombie, or the vampire. Read on, and consider yourself yet another inch closer to death.

The word “revenant” is derived from the Latin word “revenans”, which means “returning”. In French, it is related to the verb “revenir”, which means “to come back”.

A revenant is a ghost visible to the common eye, or an animated corpse that has returned from the grave. While this is very close to the zombie and vampire, there are differences that make it distinctive from the two. READ MORE

See ‘The Tall Man’ On VOD This Wednesday

VOD is a beautiful thing because of limited theatrical runs like the one given to Pascal Laugier’s The Tall Man. Oh, it’s hitting theaters on August 31, but odds are it’s not going to be playing anywhere near most of you (myself included). Today, Image Entertainment announced that the thriller will come to VOD on Wednesday, August 1 – so, two days from now. Being a huge fan of Martyrs, this has officially become part of my weekend plans.

In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace – abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as “The Tall Man.” Town nurse Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) seems skeptical…until her young David disappears in the middle of night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent’s darkest nightmare in this twisting, shock-around-each-corner thriller.

Silent Hill‘s Jodelle Ferland also stars with Stephen McHattie (Pontypool, Watchmen), William B. Davis and Samantha Ferris. READ MORE
