Behind-The-Scenes Video For ‘Pacific Rim’ Explores The Amazing Jaeger Piloting System

I love this behind the scenes glimpse (via IGN) at Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim because it shares and explores one of the movies most interesting concepts. If you’re a Jaeger pilot, your co-pilot has to know everything about you. Literally. I think this is the key to lending the film some immense human relationship stakes without having to break away from the action too much, the film combines the two.

In theaters July 12, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Full ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ Trailer Is Here And It’s Marvelous

A few days ago we were given a tease of the trailer for the upcoming Warner Bros developed prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins, and now, the full trailer has emerged from the shadows of the Internet to punch you squarely in the face with five minutes of pure awesome.

I’ve already watched it twice, because I’m a geek and I like watching guys flip, spin, and beat the crap out of each other while tossing out the random gruff one-liner so their opponent knows their superhero suit is isn’t nearly as cool as what they have on. I could totally keep going, but I’m positive 99% of you have already skimmed past my ramblings so you can watch the trailer. Thanks for that.

Batman And Deathstroke Duel In New ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ Teaser

If you woke up this morning with a craving to watch two guys beat the crap out of each other during a blizzard than boy oh boy, I do think I’m about to make your day. Warner Bros just unveiled a first look at Batman: Arkham Origins — a prequel to Rocksteady’s gritty Batman series developed by Warner Bros Montreal, the studio that brought us the Arkham City Armored Edition for Wii U. In it, Deathstroke and the Dark Knight engage in glorious fisticuffs.

Rocksteady won’t be handling the development of this game, possibly so they can stay focused on the next-gen Batman game they better be working on right now. This teaser is a bit on the short side, but that’s because it’s just a slice of the tasty Batman pie we can look forward to gorging ourselves on — the full trailer is coming May 20th.

Is This The Nuclear Facility That Births ‘Godzilla’?

Legendary’s now-filming Godzilla reboot, helmed by Monsters director Gareth Edwards, has just released another behind the scenes pic that shows the interior of some kind of facility with people wearing haz-mat suits. Is this the Japanese facility that begets the beast? Or is it a place where people are taking cover during his rampage?

Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Yuki Morita and Richard T. Jones round out the cast. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce along with Mary Parent. Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont and Dave Callaham penned the script. Production is (obviously) currently underway.

5 Things We Learned From The New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer!!

Warner Bros. Pictures finally released the Wondercon trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim yesterday and it 100% reinvigorated me. I was starting to worry that this was just going to be another, almost boring, “summer blockbuster” when this new footage came along and convinced me that it would be anything but. I also learned (and re-learned) a few things about the film that effectively killed all the second guessing I’d been doing, so I figured I’d jot them down.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. ‘Pacific Rim’ Unleashes A Huge Jaeger In New One Sheet

Warners has released a new official one sheet for Guillermo del Toro’s (apparently awesome) Pacific Rim. This one teases the size of one of the giant Jaegers as it strides down a destroyed city block. Also, I’m thankful this isn’t another viral image.

In the film, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. Are You An Engineer? Then ‘Pacific Rim’ Needs You

Warners has released yet, yet, yet, another viral image for Guillermo del Toro’s (apparently awesome) Pacific Rim. This one beckons for engineers to join the war effort.

Shane Black’s ‘Death Note’ Thankfully Not Dead

Shane Black (writer of Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad, The Long Kiss Goodnight and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) is both awesome and on a commercial career high pending the release of his 2nd directorial effort, Iron Man 3. But that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about helming a U.S. remake of the Japanese classic Death Note.

While he doesn’t give a ton of info, he tells Bleeding Cool, “Right now I’ve got this thing at Warner Bros. called Death Note that I like a lot. It’s a Japanese Manga that’s very tense and really cool.” Not much, but not dead either. A few years back Black was overseeing a script by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry – I’m not sure if that configuration is still in play.

Written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, Death Note was originally published in Japan and later collected in 12 trade paperbacks that have sold more than 38 million copies worldwide. The protagonist, Light, is a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous FBI criminal profiler known only by the alias L.

‘Pacific Rim’ Virals, Like Kaiju Attacks, Are Now Part Of Our Daily Existence

Warners has released yet another viral image for Guillermo del Toro’s (apparently awesome) Pacific Rim. So the movie still exists, don’t worry. This one tries to get you to join “K-Science”, which is what I suppose you do when you are too nerdy to pilot a robot.

‘The Shining’ Prequel ‘The Overlook Hotel’ Moves Forward!!!

Get ready for The Overlook Hotel.

Back in July, we featured this blurb from The LA Times, “ “Warner Bros.is quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel to “The Shining,” The studio has solicited the involvement of Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt to craft a new take as producers, according to a person familiar with the project who was not authorized to talk about it publicly… The film would focus on what happened before Jack Torrance (of course played memorably onscreen by Jack Nicholson), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness.

Turns out they were dead-on. It’s been announced today that former “Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara is the likely candidate to write Overlook Hotel for the studio. Per Deadline, “Glen Mazzara, who ran AMC’s smash hit series The Walking Dead for the past several seasons, will now focus on ghosts. He’s in talks to write The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick-directed The Shining, based on the Stephen King novel.

Personally, if this has to happen, I dig the idea of them doing a story about the hotel rather than a Torrance family origin story. What about you?

This Ain’t Bull Durham’s ‘Bermuda Triangle’

Get ready to visit The Bermuda Triangle (in 2-3 years). Per Deadline, Warner Bros has purchased writer Daniel Kunka‘s spec script The Bermuda Triangle. This one sounds like it could be in our wheelhouse, for some reason I can’t imagine a studio movie about that place without at least a few monsters. Maybe I’m wrong.

Per the report, “The logline is being kept under wraps, but the ambition is to use the Bermuda Triangle mythology–planes and ships go missing–and turn it into a tent pole action franchise.

The film will be a co-production between Atlas Entertainment and Madhouse Entertainment. Atlas’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce with Madhouse’s Adam Kolbrenner. Andy Horwitz of Atlas and Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse exec producing. Jon Berg will shepherd the project at Warner Bros.

This ‘Pacific Rim’ Viral Image Has Me Wondering If I Even Like Viral Marketing

Warners has released some “viral” marketing for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, and I’m not sure how excited it’s supposed to get me. Don’t get me wrong – I’m DYING to see the movie, especially after hearing the Wondercon footage described. It’s just that images like these don’t make a dent in terms of my anticipation (nor do they make me want to see it less, on the otherhand). It’s just… neutral.

New Trailer For ‘The Conjuring’ Packs In The Scares!!!

Every time I see something new from James Wan’s The Conjuring I’m inclined to believe that, aside from the fact that it’s probably really good, it looks like a leap forward for the director himself. It just looks so much more assured than his already impressive existing body of work. I particularly like the leap from on top of the armoir, and any use of “Hurdy Gurdy Man” puts me in the bag a little bit.

In theaters July 19, “Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

It was recently revealed that the filmmakers were aiming for a PG-13 but couldn’t get it because of the intensity of the scares. Not the gore, just the creepiness. So the film will remain at its’ current R rating. Can’t wait. The film stars “Bates Motel’s” Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Kyla Deaver, and Sterling Jerins.
