‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ On Wii U Isn’t Just An HD Port

Capcom is bringing Resident Evil: Revelations to every serious gaming platform later this month, but the console Capcom looks to be pushing the hardest is the Wii U. Where the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Revelations bring with them a few new features and remastered visuals, the Wii U version offers all that and a couple exclusive features that make full use of the console’s unique controller and Miiverse, all of which you can see in the trailer I have waiting for you beyond the break.

‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Will Introduce New Enemies, Playable Rachel, Wii U Off-Screen Play

Capcom is doing a fine job making Resident Evil: Revelations for consoles enticing even if you already own it for the Nintendo 3DS. The upcoming high definition port will bring with it two new monsters, a playable Rachel in the cooperative Raid Mode, and Wii U-specific features. Only one of the two new monsters that are coming to the console and PC versions has been announced, and it’s called the Wall Blister. Yuck. If you’re planning on getting it on the Wii U, it will come with off-screen play, which means you can play it in another room while someone else uses the TV, and it will also make use of the console’s social network. See all that and more in the pretty substantial batch of new screenshots I have waiting for you after the jump.

In related news, Hunk and Rachel will both be playable at PAX East this weekend, alongside upcoming survival horror games Daylight and Outlast.

‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Will Make Full, And Entirely Optional, Use Of The Wii U’s GamePad

The GamePad is arguably the most exciting thing about the Wii U, and like most new technologies, it’ll likely take some time to reach its potential. It’s understandable that many developers are still trying find uses for it that actually gives us a reason to purchase the Wii U version of a multi-platform game. ZombiU used it in an interesting way by forcing you to look away the screen during potentially dangerous situations for inventory management and things like that. Resident Evil: Revelations will use it in the same way, but this time it’s optional. Capcom is giving us multiple ways to play, so if you want to use the GamePad you can do that, or you can use a Wii U Pro controller. What platform will you be purchasing Revelations on?

Still In The Market For ‘ZombiU’ And A Wii U? Here’s Your Chance To Get Them Both

ZombiU is arguably the most original game from the Wii U’s launch lineup — zombie themes aside — because of its unrelenting difficulty, unique take on the multiplayer, and innovative use of the console’s GamePad controller. I still haven’t purchased ZombiU or a Wii U, so this newly announced offer is particularly tempting for me. It brings with it a black Wii U Deluxe console (the only version of the console that’s worth it, in my opinion), which comes with a 32GB hard drive, a digital copy of Nintendo Land, ZombiU (disc, not digital), a Wii U Pro controller, and a GamePad. You can get all this for the very decent price of $390. The bundle will be available in North America on February 17th, and if you haven’t checked out David Harley’s review of ZombiU, I recommend it.

ONM Teases “Stunning” New Horror Game Reveal In February Issue

Watch out for the February issue of Official Nintendo Magazine, because ONM is teasing a brand new horror game reveal in it. “Are you scared? You should be… World Exclusive! The first look at a stunning new game.” it teases. There’s also a picture — which I have for you after the jump — that looks like a shadow of a person (ghost!) standing between a bunch of… gizmos. Not sure what’s going on there. Could it be Acid Ghost, that mysterious new IP that surfaced around E3 last year? The gizmos in the picture could be the interior or engine room of a ship, and that’s where the game was supposed to take place. Let’s all speculate after the break!

Want To See The World’s First Horror Film Shot Using The Wii U? Of Course You Do

Destructoid community blogger FrankHowley has done something no one else has before: create a short horror film using the Wii U. It’s called The Blair Wii U Project, and it’s in the style of, well, The Blair Witch Project. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll scream, and when the credits roll, you’ll ask for more. Or maybe none of that will happen, but it’s still a good watch. Now turn off the lights, lock the doors, crank up the volume, and click that adorable little Read More link to check it out.

‘ZombiU’ Review: A Mix Of Terror And Tedium

Back at E3 2011, Ubisoft introduced Killer Freaks From Outer Space, a sci-fi/horror first-person shooter made exclusively for Nintendo’s recently announced Wii U. The trailer’s over-the-top sense of humor raised some eyebrows and then… it fell off the radar. There wasn’t a peep for months until Ubisoft unveiled ZombiU at this year’s convention, a completely revamped version of the concept that aimed for a more serious, tense experience for the hardcore gaming crowd. While we’ll never know if the goofy alien invasion shooter would’ve worked, the tonal switch gave birth to a high concept survival horror game with incredible atmosphere and big ideas. Sadly, a lot of those ideas are better in theory than execution, turning ZombiU into an uneven mix of terror and tedium.

‘ZombiU’ Releases In The UK Tomorrow, Let’s Celebrate With A Look At Its Multiplayer

ZombiU has been out in the States for close to two weeks now, but for the folks across the pond (specifically Europe and Australia), it won’t release until tomorrow. To celebrate, Ubisoft has released a video showing off the game’s incredibly cool multiplayer mode, which pits two players against each other in what they’re calling asymmetrical multiplayer. Basically, one player takes on the role of the “King of Zombies” where they use their bird’s eye view of the map to spawn zombies to kill the other player. It sounds great. See it in action after the break.

So Far, Nine Brave Souls Have Beaten ‘ZombiU’s’ Hardest Difficulty

As a launch title and the Wii U’s only horror game, ZombiU had some high expectations set upon it. I’ve heard mixed things about it, thought mostly of the people I’ve spoken with who have played it seem to be enjoying it. Then there are the many comparisons to Demon’s Souls I’ve heard that make me ache to get my hands on this game. For the unfamiliar, when you die in ZombiU your character, and much of their progress, goes with them. That is, unless you return to where you died to kill the zombified version of the last character you played — then you can just kill them again and take their sweet, sweet supplies.

In the normal modes, when you die, you respawn in a totally different person’s body. However, in Survival mode, when you die, it’s game over. Its developers weren’t completely sure this mode could be beaten, but it looks like it can. As of this writing, nine desperate souls have beaten Survival mode. Nine. See who they are after the break.

The Wii U Is Out Now, Are You Buying One?

Unless you’ve been living under a particularly large and heavy boulder (we’re talking something on the same scale as a mountain to justify missing this headline), you undoubtedly already know that Nintendo’s follow-up to their crazy successful Wii released today. The Wii U is available right now — assuming you can find one — and for us horror fans, the fact that it comes with ZombiU as a launch title makes it way more intriguing. This basically marks the beginning of the next generation of consoles, as Microsoft and Sony are expected to release theirs late next year. I haven’t gotten my hands on my own yet, but I’m sure some of you have. Did you go out and buy a Wii U, or will you be getting one soon (or at all)? Let us know!

[Interview] Composer Cris Velasco On The Horror Genre, Clive Barker, And Scoring ‘ZombiU’

There are a myriad zombie games releasing over the next year, including Day Z, The War Z, The Walking Dead, Human Element, and many more, yet one of the more exciting titles is the Wii U exclusive ZombiU. As our first look at what survival horror on the Wii U could be like, there’s a lot riding on this game’s ability to prove that Nintendo’s next console can be a major player in the horror genre, as opposed to its predecessor, which despite having no shortage of horror games release on it, never managed to birth any real successes. It looks, and perhaps most importantly, sounds incredible, and that’s thanks in large part to composer Cris Velasco. I had the opportunity to chat with Cris about the game — see what he had to say about the horror genre and scoring ZombiU, after the break.

Nintendo’s Partnership With Unity Could Bring More Horror Games To The Wii U

Unity Technologies recently announced an exciting partnership with Nintendo that could end up bringing more indie horror games to the Wii U. The partnership will provide a version of the Unity game engine as well as the rights for Nintendo to distribute it to in-house, external, and third-party developers. “Nintendo’s unfettered access to Unity will produce a wealth of insanely good games from knowledgeable Nintendo developers and the Wii U deployment add-on will create an amazing opportunity for our massive community of developers to showcase their incredible creativity on one of the most anticipated and innovative gaming platforms to date.” said Unity CEO David Helgason.

For the unfamiliar, Unity is a multi-platform game engine that’s fairly easy to develop for. It’s also more cost effective than most other development tools, hence why so many indie developers use it for their projects. It’s a popular tool for smaller developers, including Mark Hadley’s Parsec Productions, which brought us the deliciously creepy, and soon to be remade Slender: The Eight Pages. The Wii U releases on November 18th, but the Unity platform won’t be available until next year.

The Wii U Is Coming Nov 18, Here’s Everything You Need To Know To Prepare For Its Arrival

In case you were busy being the awesome human beings I know you all are, you might’ve missed out on some crucial Wii U information that Nintendo unveiled late last week. For starters, the console is coming on November 18th, and you’ll have two sets to choose from: the basic set, which retails for $299.99, and brings with it an 8GB console, GamePad, AC adapter, HDMI cable, and sensor bar. No frills, since it’s more for the casual Nintendo fan. Like, if Nintendo were a band, you wouldn’t be their groopie, but you definitely enjoy their music. That’s who that set is for.

Then there’s the $349.99 deluxe set, which comes with everything the basic one offers as well as extra memory (32GB as opposed to 8GB) a GamePad charging cable, stands for the console and controller, and a copy of Nintendo Land. If you fancy yourself a fan of all things Nintendo, this is for you. Check the Wii U’s launch window games, after the jump.

Here’s A New ‘ZombiU’ Trailer To Show Off The Many Roles Of The Wii U GamePad

Look, when I play a game, I play a game. What I mean is, I get really into it. For some horror games I even have a ritual of sorts, in that the lights must be off, it has to be nighttime, and in most cases, I need to be alone. Sometimes my rituals include candles and the sacrificing of small mammals, but that’s only in very special cases. I’m telling you this because if this trailer is anything to go by, ZombiU looks like a game I could get into pretty deeply. The sheer amount of brow-wiping in the trailer I have waiting for you after the jump has me worried for how intense some of the moments will be. E3 2012: This ‘ZombiU’ Debut Trailer Asks How Long Will You Survive?

The Wii U is getting an exclusive survival horror game called ZombieU, and it actually looks pretty damn excellent. The game will utilize the screen on the Wii U’s Gamepad controller for various tasks such as sniping, busting down doors, breaking free of zombies, and even as an Aliens style radar that will should almost certainly add to the game’s creep factor. It will also bring with it a competitive two-player multiplayer mode where one player will take on the rols of the “Zombie Master,” spawning and controlling zombies from a top-down view while the other player fights to survive in a first person view. ZombieU has substantially increased my excitement for the Wii U–check out the debut trailer after the jump so it can do the same for you.

Could Left 4 Dead Make Its Way to the Wii U?

Nintendo’s next console, the Wii U, was officially revealed at E3 earlier this month to a mostly warm reception. It brings with it things we expected, like better hardware, and a few surprises, particularly its unique controller. The Wii U is Nintendo’s next console is also a big step toward giving third party developers, like Valve Software, more options with their console. So far the list of third party companies interested in the console is pretty impressive, including big names like Ubisoft, EA, and Activision. So what about Valve?

L4D Could Left 4 Dead Make Its Way to the Wii U?

The team that brought us the critically acclaimed Portal, Left 4 Dead and Half-Life series definitely has their interest piqued. Valve’s managing director, Gabe Newell, had positive things to say about Nintendo’s next console, saying “It sort of fits better into the scalability in terms of graphics performance and CPU performance, so I think it’ll be a lot easier for us to fit it into our scalability model.” Could this mean the cooperative zombie series Left 4 Dead might make its way to the Wii U? If anything, the chances are better now than they were on the Wii. READ MORE

Dead Pixels 20 Most Exciting Reveals of E3

This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo wasn’t so much about big surprises as it was about things we expected. That’s not to say E3 wasn’t excited, it brought us a ton of geeky kickassery to keep most of us excited until next June, but almost all of the major reveals were things we knew were coming many moons ago (see: Wii U).

E3: Killer Freaks From Outer Space Announced For The Wii U

E3: Everything You Need to Know About the Wii U

Did you hear? Nintendo’s next console has been unveiled and it’s capable of some pretty cool things. Sure, it looks like a Wii with rounded edges and its controller doesn’t look like the most confortable thing you could hold for hours on end – if you’re focusing on those things than you’re missing the point. The Wii U is Nintendo’s attempt at satisfying us, the hardcore market, and with the lineup of games the system has for it so far (more on that later), it looks like they might be on the right path to capturing the hearts of people who aren’t soccer moms, retired or can’t legally drive.

E3: The Wii U Offers Plenty of Ways to Play

Earlier this morning Nintendo’s followup to their hugely successful Wii was unveiled with the monicker Wii U and it’s pretty exciting. Arguably the most innovative thing about it is its controller, which is great if you have to share a television since it allows you to continue playing on the controller’s screen should you have to give up the TV. Oh, and it’s backwards compatible with the Wii’s games as well as its peripherals, so that’s pretty great too.

E3: Meet Nintendo’s Next Console, the Wii U

Nintendo’s E3 press conference just wrapped up and it ended with a bang: the reveal of their next console, the Wii U, and specifically its controller. It confirms the rumors that their next console had a controller with a massive (6.2″) touchscreen on it, as you can see below. Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata said Nintendo’s goal is to appeal to both the casual and hardcore markets, “The goal of innovation is to serve every player, then though each brings to video games an individual appetite, a personal passion and a distinct gaming history.” Nintendo is definitely trying to address the concerns of core gamers, a majority of which never warmed up to the family-friendly Wii console.

1 E3: Meet Nintendos Next Console, the Wii U

The Wii U’s controller might not be the most attractive thing on the market, but its large touchscreen, twin analog sticks, a front-facing camera, and gyroscope are still easier for my mind to wrap itself around then that Wiimote, which after years of using controllers for the PlayStation and Xbox, it just never felt quite right. The rumors that you could take the Wii U controller on the go, making it a portable gaming device, were squashed. However, if someone wants to use the TV you can switch the screen to the one on the controller and continue your gaming uninterrupted. Head past the break for some of the console’s announced games, a look at the console itself, and when we can expect this exciting new device. READ MORE
