It’s now time for the final entry of our Deadite Of The Day contest. As we stated before (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded). And well, April 5th is today. Again, it’s kind of a bummer because this has actually been very rewarding for me. It’s a lot of fun to share these creations with the world and make true horror fans happy.

Today’s winner is Jay Woodley (along with Danielle Skelley for putting up with it)! I got a lot of Evil Dead cosplay pics but I think this was my favorite. In Jay’s (brief) words, “Hey guys! here is the costume i made a few years back. with REAL homelite xl chainsaw. Enjoy!”

Did you miss our initial post on regarding the Deadite Of The Day contest? If not – don’t worry. We’re accepting submissions up until April 3rd at [email protected] (head inside for the full list of rules)! Winners will be announced daily from March 25th – April 5th (weekends excluded). Submissions will be open the whole time, so if you see something you think you can top… TOP IT!

Today’s winners are Luke Bramley, Gigi Saul Guerrero and Raynor Shima. Since they all worked on the same project, it only counts as one entry – but it’s a cool one. It’s a retelling of the original Evil Dead (with a visual nod to the remake) in 60 seconds. Per Bramley, “‘d like to submit our recreation of the original Evil Dead done in 60 seconds for the Deadite of the Day contest. Created by myself (Luke Bramley), Gigi Saul Guerrero, and Raynor Shima (with the help of our fantastic cast and crew), we submitted this to the Virgin Radio Fake Film Festival, and although we didn’t win 1st place, we came in the top 5 and received a lot of positive feedback from Evil Dead fans everywhere.”

In his words, “I did this Evil Dead oil painting back in 2005 and got it signed at the Horrorfind Weekend Convention by Bruce Campbell, Sarah York, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, Hal Delrich, and Tom Sullivan! They were all pretty impressed with it and had great comments for me, except Hal, who busted my chops saying I messed him all up (I think he was kidding?). ”

Today’s winner is Theodore Holmstead-Scott, who is only 15 years old. He runs The House Of Marrow blog and has made a cool short, The Woods Themselves, expressly for this contest. In his own words, “I first saw the Evil Dead films around this time last year and immediately fell in love with them. When I saw the contest post on your site I immediately set to work. I built the prop (an ancient victim of the ‘angry molesting trees’) over the last week and filmed it in the woods on the weekend – it was pretty exhausting, but absolutely worth it. ‘The Evil Dead’ is one of my most favorite films, and also one that inspired me to get into filmmaking.”

I really dig how Theodore’s short uses that low-roving camera angle, and that jump over the fallen tree near the end is what sealed the deal for me. That one moment captures the playful vibe of the original trilogy so well. Sadly, Theodore hails from Wellington, New Zealand. So if he wants to be eligible for the signed poster he needs to have someone in the US it can be mailed to. Though – again – we still have 8 more winners to announce who are also eligible. A few weeks back James Wan’s Insidious Chapter 2 held an open casting call for their biggest fan. Whoever could prove their fandom the best (via YouTube) would be personally selected by Wan, Whannell and producer Jason Blum to receive an all-expense paid trip for two to Los Angeles where he/she will get a walk-on role in the movie

While all of the submissions can be seen at the Insidious: Chapter 2 YouTube, it was 21 year old Michael James Grise who emerged as the victor. In the words of James Wan, “We sifted thru tons of entries. Everyone’s a winner in my book, but like Connor Macleod said, there can be only one.”

Additionally, Danielle Bisutti (pictured above; “Parks And Rec”) has been cast in the film, though the nature of her role is being kept under wraps. She joins Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, Jocelin Donahue, Barbara Hershey, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Andrew Astor and Grise in the cast. FilmDistrict will release Insidious Chapter 2 in theaters August 30th.

The 2012 Blood List Features The Year’s Best Unproduced Horror Screenplays

Just in time for Halloween, Tyler Marceca’s thriller “The Disciple Program” has been voted to the top of the 2012 2011 Blood List. Compiled by Kailey Marsh, the Blood List features the top 13 most-liked unproduced screenplays in the horror, thriller, sci-fi and dark comedy/drama genres, as voted on by 117 feature executives who each chose their three favorite scripts of the year. Ninety-nine scripts received votes; to make the 2012 list, a script must have received at least five votes and come out within the past calendar year.

“Disciple Program” sparked a bidding war back in May, when Universal beat out Warner Bros. for the project. Mark Wahlberg is attached to star and produce with Steve Levinson; Morten Tyldum (“Headhunters”) is attached to direct.
