Wither

We’re told the film is about a swedish folklore that tells the legend about these creatures, almost human like, living underground. It has been told that if you disturb them, things can go very bad. When a group of friends get together for a weekend in an old deserted house, it doesn’t take a lot to awaken what lives underneath the floorboards.

LONG: Albin, his girlfriend Ida and their friends are all in their late twenties. During a family dinner, Albin’s dad tells the couple about a supposedly abandoned house deep in the woods. Albin and Ida sees this as an opportunity to get together with their friends one more time and spend the weekend there. They all get together and are soon on their way. Everyone is excited about seeing the mysterious house. Upon arriving two of the friends, Markus and Marie, decides to scare Albin by sneaking in through a window. Marie climbs in while Albin and the other tries to get the locked front door open. Inside the dark house, Marie stumbles upon a hatch that leads down to an underground area. Out of curiousness, she can’t resist to check it out. But underneath the ground, something is waiting for her….

Dammit Internet…Dream Theater Vs. Psy “Gangnam Wither”

I know that I said I wouldn’t be doing any more “Gangnam Style” articles but this one is a bit different. Instead of someone doing their own original rendition of the track (like “David Lo Pan Style“), this is a mashup of the music of Dream Theater‘s “Wither” with Psy‘s “Gangnam Style” vocals. And it works shockingly well. As in, I had to listen to the whole thing to see if I had any issues with it (there are none). Listen to it below and lend your thoughts.

I’m guessing that the Dream Theater fellas, if they knew about this, would nod their heads approvingly before ascending into the stars, creating beautiful, intricate music with naught but their imaginations. And Psy would reach his hand into the air, his other hand placed over his heart, while a singer tear rolled down his cheek. And as Dream Theater burst into a glorious light, their song reaching the coda, Psy would whisper, “Thank you.” READ MORE

DREAM THEATER ‘Wither’ Documentary Details, Q&A with Mike Portnoy

“Of the 10 videos we’ve done through the years, I felt we have never been truly captured ‘in our element…which of course is on tour, playing to our fans, with our lighting and video show. So I thought it was time to do a video that showed us in our ‘real world’ (unlike the ‘fake worlds’ that are usually created when shooting a promo video),” says MIKE PORTOY of DREAM THEATER about the band’s new documentary road video for their new single “Wither” from their 10th studio release BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS (Roadrunner).

Directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who did the same honors for the first clip for the album’s first single “A Rite Of Passage,” the “Wither” video was shot on location in the U.K. (London, Manchester), France (Paris, Lille) and Rotterdam (the Netherlands) as part of DREAM THEATER’s September/October 2009 headlining “Progressive Nation” tour reaching 15 countries.

Meanwhile, the legendary progressive metal masters just launched their headlining down under tour December 1, encompassing seven shows in Australia and New Zealand, wrapping December 12 in Perth, with special guests Pain of Salvation will join the band on all dates except in New Zealand. Look for the band to head to South America in the winter-spring.

Read on for a Q&A with Mike Portnoy about the “Wither” videoand tour dates. READ MORE
