BAFTA-nominated Tom Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys, Misfits) is gearing up to direct The Woman in Black: Angels Of Death, the sequel to horror smash The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, that was adapted from a Susan Hill story. The plot revolves around Eel Marsh House four decades after original.

Penned by Jon Croker, “Seized by the government and converted into a military mental hospital during World War II, the sudden arrival of disturbed soldiers to Eel Marsh Harsh has awoken its darkest inhabitant. Eve, a beautiful young nurse, is sent to the house to care for the patients but soon realizes she must save them from more than their own demons. Despite Eve’s efforts to stop her, one by one they fall victim to the Woman in Black.”

A few weeks ago Hammer revealed the official plot for The Woman in Black: Angels Of Death and now Hammer CEO Simon Oakes is hinting that Radcliffe might return.

Oakes attended a special screening of the first film recently and spoke of the Harry Potter star’s potential involvement. Per Bleeding Cool, “ It would be a small role, by the sound of things. Plainly put, Oakes wouldn’t deny it, went as far as saying Radcliffe “might” appear.” Those who have seen the first film will have a pretty good idea of what capacity he might return in.

Now in theaters everywhere is CBS Films’ The Woman in Black, the latest Hammer production that stars Harry Potter‘s Daniel Radcliffe.

Mr. Disgusting isn’t a huge fan of the film, “What’s most troubling is ‘Eden Lake’ director James Watkins’ inability to craft a “real” scare…there are two should-be terrifying moments that fall completely flat on its face.” Full review here. Other people seem to like this film, even though I agree that it’s a flat “horror for beginners” tale with way too many ineffectual jump scares.

CBS Films released a new clip today, and if you want an idea of what the second act of this film is all about – just imagine this scene playing over and over again for about 45 minutes. If that sounds like your thing, then by all means go see it.

On February 3 CBS Films releases Hammer’s The Woman in Black, an old fashioned ghost story starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter 1-7.2) and Ciaran Hinds (There Will Be Blood). With a screenplay by Jane Goldman (X Men: First Class, Kick Ass), based on the novel by Susan Hill, the film is directed by James Watkins who helmed Eden Lake in addition to writing The Descent: Part 2.

This film has the most wide array of marketing material I’ve seen recently, probably due to Radcliffe’s status as international superstar Harry Potter – many different territories are getting their own unique materials. Today we have a new UK TV spot.

“In this supernatural thriller, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career as a lawyer in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric.  But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret.  Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost…and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.”

With a screenplay by Jane Goldman (X Men: First Class, Kick Ass), based on the novel by Susan Hill, the film is directed by James Watkins who helmed Eden Lake in addition to writing The Descent: Part 2.

Today we have some new behind the scenes footage focussing on Radcliffe and his portrayal of Arthur Kipp. Ciaran Hinds is also interviewed in the b-roll and I’d say these few minutes are certainly a treat to those looking forward to the film.

On February 3 CBS Films releases Hammer’s The Woman in Black, an old fashioned ghost story starring Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter 1-7.2) and Ciaran Hinds (There Will Be Blood).

With a screenplay by Jane Goldman (X Men: First Class, Kick Ass), based on the novel by Susan Hill, the film is directed by James Watkins who helmed Eden Lake in addition to writing The Descent: Part 2. I recently had a chance to speak with Watkins about the film, which is a real departure for him in terms of tone and achieving what he calls “a pervasive sense of dread“.

“In this supernatural thriller, Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career as a lawyer in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric.  But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret.  Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost…and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.”
