‘World War Z’ Filmmaker Marc Forster Headed To Director’s Jail After Feud With Brad Pitt?!

The troubles behind World War Z have never been secret, but they’ve definitely been tackled lightly by mainstream press. That ends today as Vulture is reporting that star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster have broken up.

“The horde of zombies in Paramount Pictures’ World War Z aren’t the only ones ravenous for brains: So is the troubled blockbuster’s star and producer, Brad Pitt, who Vulture hears exclusively from multiple production sources has become so frustrated with the film’s director, Marc Forster, that he stopped speaking to him altogether as the production heads into at least three weeks of reshoots,” says the website. “Things got so bad that when Forster had notes on a scene for Pitt, they had to be relayed through an intermediary — and vice versa.”

They also note the irony of the situation adding that “Pitt, whose company, Plan B, is producing World War Z, originally fought for Forster to be given the director’s chair on World War Z. The studio was wary, because his only other big-budget action film was Quantum of Solace, the 2008 James Bond film that proved a notoriously difficult shoot.”

And while previous reports hit that both Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard have reworked the finale, the site claims that Paramount is still trying to decide whether to just try to fix what they have or get writers to completely re-envision the film’s final. The shocker (I guess?) is that whatever happens with the script, additional — and possibly outside — directing help is likely to be sought for the action sequences that will need to be reshot.

The adaptation revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. READ MORE

worldwarz [San Diego Comic Con 12] Cabin in the Woods & Prometheus Drew Goddard Rewrites Troubled World War Z

While reports had Prometheus and “Lost” scribe Damon Lindelof coming in to write a new ending to the Marc Forster-directed Brad Pitt-starrer World War Z, it actually was his “Lost” compadre, Drew Goddard, who did the bulk of the writing of the finale, reports Deadline. Lindelof, who reworked Prometheus and co-wrote the Star Trek sequel, cracked a potential new ending of the film, but Lindelof didn’t have time to do the scripting so that task fell to Goddard, who most recently adapted Robopocalypse, which is Steven Spielberg’s next film at DreamWorks. Goddard also wrote Cloverfield and directed Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods.

Both of those guys are off to other projects, so it’s quite possible that Paramount will tap another writer to punch up this ending, if the studio decides to use it. They’re hearing Christopher McQuarrie, whom the studio is high on after he adapted and directed Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, based on the Lee Child novels. That isn’t set in stone because McQuarrie is Cruise’s go-to guy and he will be doing some script work on All You Need Is Kill, the Doug Liman-directed action film that Cruise will next star in after he completes Oblivion.

No date has been set for the reshoots that will be needed to implement the new ending, but insiders say that Forster will be shooting those scenes.

The adaptation, starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox and David Morse, revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen. It was slated for release on June 21, 2013. READ MORE

“Lost” Director Jack Bender Isn’t Giving Away The Secrets Of ‘Devolution’

Jack Bender directed 37 episode of “Lost” in addition to several episodes of “Alcatraz”, which means he’s probably picked up more than a thing or two from J.J. Abrams. So it’s no surprise that he’s keeping the plot of his new thriller Devolution, under wraps. All we know is that the film is based on an idea by Max Brooks, the author of “World War Z”, and that the script will be written by Wrath Of The Titans scribe David Leslie Johnson (who also wrote a few “Walking Dead” episodes).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Jack Bender, perhaps best known as the preeminent director of ABC’s Lost, is working on Devolution, a thriller he is developing to direct for Legendary. Plot details are being kept lock and key, but the pedigree is all genre. It is based on an original idea by Max Brooks, the author of World War Z, while David Leslie Johnson, who worked on ‘Wrath of the Titans’ is writing the script. Brooks is producing with Legendary, indicating that the author is slowly developing deeper relations with the company.

Fun fact: Bender also directed Child’s Play 3.

“Lost” and ‘Prometheus’ Writer ‘World War Z’ Savior?

Holy crap World War Z much suck, and it must suck badly. On the heels of news that Paramount Pictures has agreed to several more weeks of shooting, THR writes that screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been brought in to save Paramount’s troubled zombie movie.

The big-budget movie, in which Brad Pitt stars and is serving as one of the producers, has been troubled, and its release has been pushed from a December, 2012 release to June, 21 2013. It is now awaiting signficant reshoots. Lindelof, the “Lost” co-creator and co-author of Ridley Scott and Fox’s Prometheus, is said to be focusing on the movie’s third act. The production hopes to begin reshoots in September or October.

Z, based on the 2006 novel by Max Brooks, is intended to be a zombie picture with sociological and political overtones. It also stars Mireille Enos (“The Killing”), James Badge Dale and Anthony Mackie. Marc Forster is directing the movie, which shot last year in various European locales.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. ‘World War Z’ Goes Back Into The Trenches For Another 7 Weeks!?

We already knew that World War Z, Paramount Pictures’ epic zombie adaptation starring Brad Pitt that was originally scheduled to open December 21, 2012, had been been pushed to June 21, 2013.

At the time I didn’t necessarily take that as a bad sign, but now I kind of do. Because the film has reportedly started an additional 7 weeks of photography in Budapest. That’s a LOT of time. That’s more than the entire shooting schedule of many (most?) films.

Per The Daily Mail, “Pitt has joined his fellow actors on locations in Budapest, where World War Z will go through seven weeks of additional shooting.” If this is correct, and it’s a big “if” considering the source – someone clearly isn’t happy with the film (which had already wrapped principal photography). Here’s hoping director Marc Forster gets what he needs this time out.

The story “revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Bryan Cranston, and David Morse also star.

‘World War Z’ Is Now A Summer Movie, Just Not This Summer

World War Z, Paramount Pictures’ epic zombie adaptation starring Brad Pitt that was originally scheduled to open December 21, 2012, has now been pushed to June 21, 2013.

This isn’t necessarily a bad sign. It’s probably just taking longer to finish the movie properly, and I’d rather a studio get it right than rush it. Plus, it’s not like you schedule something for June 21st if you don’t have confidence in it. It’s just not an Oscar movie, that’s all.

What it may be, as we previously reported, is a trilogy. Earlier in the year the LA Times reported that “[Director Marc] Forster and Paramount Pictures each view “World War Z” as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, Damon’s Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.

[News Bites] ‘The Crow’ Script Turned In, ‘Walking Dead’ Zombie Makeup, ‘American Horror’ Teaser, ‘Suspiria’ Update & ‘World War Z’ Zombie Attack!

Producer Edward R. Pressman talked with Variety about a few upcoming projects, one of which included the forthcoming remake of The Crow. In a news brief, he explains that Watchmen‘s Alex Tse has delivered “in the last 48 hours” the screenplay for Spaniard Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s The Crow, another reinvention, this time of Alex Proyas’ 1994 original. There is still yet to be a star attached to play Eric Draven, a man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.

Still in development is a remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, which Complex got fresh story details out of director David Gordon Green. “['Black Swan'] did inspire me to think, ‘Well, I want to go younger now. I want this to be about 14, 15-year-old girls, rather than women who are Natalie’s age.’ It made not want to do what ‘Black Swan’ kind of did with the psychology and thriller elements of older characters. If anything, I want to focus on the younger, more naïve kinds of characters–the wide-eyed, ‘Snow White’ version of the movie, rather than a more sophisticated, sexual version of it.

Co-created by former “Nip/Tuck” executive producers and current “Glee” co-creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, inside you’ll find a third teaser trailer for “American Horror Story,” which premieres October 5th on FX and will run Wednesdays at 10 PM ET/PT. The show revolves around The Harmons, a family of three who move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish.

What turns an everyday human into a walking, biting member of the undead? Some might say the sallow skin or the open wounds or the bloody teeth. All valid arguments. But to really sell an undead soul, you have to have the eyes. And in this new behind-the-scenes video, “The Walking Dead”‘s contact lens tech Gazal Trabizpor describes what goes into giving zombies their ghastly stare. This season, she explains, the new contact lenses are “a little more gruesome, a lot more detailed…” Watch the video inside now to see first-hand the eyes of the enemy. “The Walking Dead “returns Sun., Oct. 19 at 10/9c with a special 90-minute episode, only on AMC.

Directly below you’ll find a behind-the-scenes video from the Glasgow set of World War Z, the Marc Forster-directed adaptation of the Max Brooks zombie infestation novel in theaters on December 21st, 2012. ‘World War Z’ Might Not Be What We Hoped For

When I try to picture World War Z through the lens of a camera, I still think it would be best adapted as an HBO mini-series like Band of Brothers. It has an episodic feel to it, highlighting the aftermath of a war between humans and zombies and some of the horrific events that transpired during it.

With Paramount now in-production on their full-length feature with Marc Forster at the helm, it was uncertain how they could cram all those vignettes into one flick and keep audiences invested in characters they would only meet for minutes at a time (unless they planned on making a four-hour movie). The studio just released an official plot summary, which details a far removed interpretation of Max Brooks beloved novel.

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

This is a little more straight forward and easily digestible for general audiences, but it’s kind of a pointless move considering they’re releasing it against a Johnny Depp flick and a week after The Hobbit, both of which have a better chance of winning big at the box office – there’s no way that date is going to stick unless Paramount doesn’t care about recouping their money. Since it now takes place during war, rather than afterwards, it doesn’t even seem like much of adaptation. Still, this could end up being a compelling tale, just not the one we were expecting.

World War Z opens on December 21, 2012.

‘Breaking Bad’ Star Lands “Flashy” Role in ‘World War Z’

Bryan Cranston – who has shown his diversity as an actor in AMC’s incredible “Breaking Bad” – is in negotiations to join Paramount’s World War Z, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Brad Pitt, writes THR.

The role is said to be small but flashy; little is known about the part. The film is an adaptation of a Max Brooks novel of the same name that depicts a global zombie takeover a decade after the fact. Marc Forster is directing.

The film, from Skydance Productions, features a cast that includes a current AMC cohort of Cranston’s in Mireille Enos, star of The Killing; and James Badge Dale, who appeared on AMC’s now defunct Rubicon.

Z, written by Matthew Michael Carnahan and J. Michael Straczynski, is currently in production and will be released in 2012.

Cranston can also be seen in Contagion and the Total Recall remake.

Humans Losing ‘World War Z’ Battle

Take A Gander At Some Art From the Canceled World War Z Game

Not only is Max Brooks’ World War Z one of my favorite books I’ve had the pleasure of reading in the last handful of years but it’s also one of the best, and most original takes on the heavily wrung out zombie genre. The film adaptation has been having a little trouble but it would seem there was also a video game concept being thrown around as well. Sadly, the game never got past the concept stages but that doesn’t mean we can’t stare at all the fantastic art work for the game while wondering what could’ve been, right?

0 Take A Gander At Some Art From the Canceled World War Z Game

Back in January we reported on another cancelled horror title Midway was planning, called Day to Night. That game sounded pretty interesting but a World War Z game sounds infinitely more badass. The idea to make a game based on Brooks’ zombie epic came from Cumron Ashtiani, who now works at Atomhawk, and the incredible art you can gaze upon past the jump is the work of Pete Thompson and Corlen Kruger. ‘Killing’ Detective Goes To ‘World War Z’

All had been quiet on the World War Z front until last month, when it was reported that the film was looking for additional backers since the Marc Forster PG-13 adaptation was budgeted around $125 million.

While there doesn’t seem to be an official confirmation of who is teaming up with Paramount, it looks like they’ve cast Mireille Enos (AMC’s The Killing) as Brad Pitt’s wife. This could be an unofficial confirmation that the film is a go, or it could be the studio trying to drum up interest from potential investors. Either way, they seem to be moving full steam ahead as if it’s a definite thing.

PG-13 ‘World War Z’ Ends Before it Begins?

Vulture is reporting that World War Z, Brad Pitt’s movie about a global undead apocalypse, may be dying (or is it re-dying?) unless Paramount can find a co-financier.

The site reports that the film currently has a price tag of more than $125 million, and the studio is fervently searching for a partner to share the risk. If they can’t find one, it’s likely that Paramount will pull the plug on the adaptation of the Max Brooks book, which was to be directed by Quantum of Solace‘s Marc Forster and star Pitt, who would also produce.

Here’s the odd part of the report, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman insists to Vulture, “We’re really committed to making a big, kick-ass giant movie with Marc Forster and Brad Pitt.” Although, Goodman also stated that Paramount signed a deal with Forster assuring them of a PG-13 cut.
