The Weinstein Company‘s Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters has added the final pieces to its casting puzzle.
Deadline reports that “Modern Family‘s” Sarah Hyland, pictured above, and “Vikings’” Gabriel Byrne, below, will now also be sinking their teeth in the movie based on the books by Richelle Mead. Bryne will play Victor, one of the leaders of the Academy while Hyland will play Natalie, Victor’s daughter and the best friend of the lead Rose and Lissa characters. Lucy Fry and Zoey Deutch have already been announced as Lissa and Rose.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Joely Richardson and Dominic Sherwood have also joined the film. Richardson will play Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi Vampires. Sherwood will be playing Christian, Lissa’s love interest. These latest cast additions come on the heels of the announcement last week that Sami Gayle (Blue Bloods), Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”), Ashley Charles (White Buffalo) and Claire Foy (White Heat) had joined the ensemble cast. The film also stars Oblivion’s Olga Kurylenko and Danila Kozlovski.
“Mead’s best-selling books tell the tale of Rose Hathaway, a teen who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire best friend Lissa. The two attend a special school for vampires who are attempting to keep some of their humanity while other of their species are becoming more wild.”

Director Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Spiderwick Chronicles) has found a new addition to Blood Sisters, the first feature installment of the “Vampire Academy” fantasy series, in the form of Olga Kurylenko (Centurion, Oblivion). Per Deadline, “she’s being set to star as Kirova, the head mistress of Vampire Academy.”
She poins the previously cast Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry, who have been signed to play the lead characters Rose and Lissa. Danila Kozlovski will play the role of Dimitri.
The series is set at St. Vladimir’s Academy in the Montana forests, centers on Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old female “dhampir” — a half human/half vampire and a guardian of the Moroi race of peaceful mortal vampires. She must deal with the intricacies of the Moroi social order and the Strigoi, a race of bloodthirsty immortal vampires and predators of the Moroi.
The script for “Blood Sisters,” based on the first book in Richelle Mead’s series of books, was written by the director’s brother, Dan Waters (Heathers, Batman Returns). Producers plan to start lensing in the early summer. READ MORE

Sigourney Weaver is joining the cast of Body Art, Luca Guadagnino’s new film based on the novel “The Body Artist” by Don DeLillo, Screen Daily reports. The film, shooting this summer in Portugal, also stars Isabelle Huppert, David Cronenberg and Denis Lavant. Written by Guadagnino, “Body Art stars Huppert as a woman who, grieving after her husband’s death, discovers that a stranger is living in her upstairs room.”
The site also reports that The Weinstein Company has acquired US rights to Blood Sisters: Vampire Academy, which they’ve committed to release on February 14, 2014. Blood Sisters is the first instalment in Richelle Mead’s “Vampire Academy” property that comprises six books and two graphic novels. Mark Waters will direct from a screenplay by his brother Dan Waters, “About two friends who attend a strict school for vampires where they team up with their guardian to battle evil forces.” Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry will star.

Richard LaGravenese is writing and directing the supernatural love story based on the first novel in Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s popular series. Alcon has film rights to all three books, hoping “Creatures” will kick off a possible franchise at Warner Bros., which will distribute.
Newcomers Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert star as Ethan and Lena, teenage lovers who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Martindale will play Lena’s Aunt Del, who helps to protect her from the family’s dark side. Deutch will play Emily Asher, Ethan’s ex-girlfriend and the ringleader of the high school’s popular clique that conspires against Lena.
