Coheed And Cambria, Mastodon, More Cover ZZ Top

When I think of great beards in music, ZZ Top is pretty much always going to come to the top of the list. If you disagree with me on that point then your taste in beards is sorely lacking. Yes, people can have a taste in beards, look it up. Well, some bands apparently had the same thought process as I did because they got together to record A Tribute From Friends, an album comprised of covers of some of ZZ Top’s most famous songs. Some of the artists included on this tribute are Nickelback, Mastodon, Wyclef Jean, Wolfmother, Coheed & Cambria, and more.

Six-String Masterpieces Art Show Revived

Six-String Masterpieces, an art show that raises funds for Little Kids Rock, which is a charity promoting music education, has been revived! Having started in 2006 and toured the country through much of 2007, Six-String Masterpieces is an art show that features Dean Guitars painted, illustrated and/or sculpted by some of today’s biggest music stars, including Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Les Claypool of Primus, Scott Ian of Anthrax, and many, many more. The original auction in 2007 raised almost $200,000 and they are looking to continue their path towards building a musical education for children. This goal is being assisted by a partnership with Mesa Contemporary Arts in Mesa, Arizona. A very special exhibition is being held from Friday, Sept. 9th through Sunday, Dec. 4th and will feature brand new guitars as well as previous classics.

Tangents Offers FREE MP3 Download Today

AOL Radio today features “The Pieces Fall,” the first single from Boston-based rock duo Tangents as part of their free weekly “DownloadTuesday” series.  The song comes from the band’s forthcoming debut album, One Little Light Year, set for nationwide release on October 26.

Tangents is not what most will expect musically from drummer Derek Kerswill (Unearth/Seemless) and Dave Witham (Of the Hour/Flat-12).  Kerswill’s musical diversity and rhythmic approach provides a solid foundation for the album, propelling the tracks forward with great intensity.  Add to it the lush and organic sound of vocalist/guitarist Dave Witham and Tangents soars in the vein of Jeff Buckley, As Tall As Lions, even Radiohead.  Witham’s magnificent voice rises over a spiraling sonic backdrop with dazzling control and splendor.  The album’s ambitious songwriting creates the catchiest music either musician has released to date.
