A New York City Performing Arts Center Looks Like The ‘Hellraiser’ Puzzle Box

Published

on

Remember in Hellraiser IV: Bloodline how the space station was actually a gigantic Configuration box, although it was the Elysium and not the Lament, that trapped Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites, killing them off permanently*? It was a clever idea and an interesting way to expand and follow the mythology that had been built over the previous three films, although I’m still of the mindset that the first two films are great and the rest are rather meh.

The reason I bring this up is because New York City is getting it’s own Elysium Configuration…at least in my mind they are.

Allow me to present to you the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center, which will be constructed at the World Trade Center complex with plans of opening in 2020. Architect Joshua Prince-Ramus explains to Yahoo that the design is based on a “…mystery box” and that during the day it will appear rather uninteresting but at night will shine like a “paper lantern”. The building, which is made out of “translucent, veined marble and glass”, will house three auditoriums as well as a rehearsal room, all within 90,000 square feet.

All of that is well and good except for the fact that the building looks like a Hellraiser puzzle box! Seriously, just look at this thing!

Prince-Ramus even uses the word “configuration” TWICE when describing it to Yahoo! Here, read this:

Because artistic directors need flexibility with new productions, the rooms and halls will feature moveable walls to create up to 11 configurations, Prince-Ramus said. The largest configuration will hold up to 1,200 people for events like rock concerts.

I don’t think it’s ever made clear where Hellraiser 3 takes place but it kinda looks like New York. All I’m saying is that in 2020, there might be a surge of Cenobites with CDs sticking out of their face roaming the streets.

*Okay, so maybe not permanently…
