Last week Netflix dropped the bomb that they’ve secretly filmed “Santa Clarita Diet”, a new series that stars Scream‘s Drew Barrymore as a suburban cannibal. While they shared the synopsis, as well as a pair of stills, they left quite a bit of information out. The most important of which is who directed the first two of the 10 episode series: Zombieland‘s Ruben Fleischer!
In addition, there’s two big casting names left off announcement, which included Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant (The Crazies, “Justified”). The series also features appearances by funnyman Andy Richter, with genre fav Nathan Fillion (SLiTHER, Guardians of the Galaxy) starring in the first episode and comedian Patton Oswalt in the second.
There’s a lot to snack on leading up to the show’s February 3rd debut, so keep your eyes here for all of it in the coming weeks.
In “Santa Clarita Diet”, Joel (Timothy Olyphant) and Sheila (Drew Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenaged daughter Abby (Liv Hewson), until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending their lives down a road of death and destruction…but in a good way.
Showrunner Victor Fresco (“Dinosaurs”, “My Name is Earl”), Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell are executive producers on the series. Nancy Juvonen is a producer.
