Glenn Close Returns From the Dead in Amazon’s “Sea Oak” Pilot, Now Streaming

This morning Amazon Studios quietly dropped the pilot episode for “Sea Oak”, a genre-bending zombedy from renowned author and creator George Saunders (Lincoln in the Bardo).

Emmy-winner Glenn Close (The Girl With All the Gifts) stars as Aunt Bernie, a working-class woman in a Rust Belt city (meek, unmarried, no kids) who dies tragically in a home invasion. Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage, determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what’s left of her nuclear family (a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces), who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.

The pilot starts off slow but takes a dark turn when Aunt Bernie comes back from the dead. None of the images or clips below do the show any justice, hiding just how crazy and frightening Aunt Bernie gets. Unfortunately, the big reveal doesn’t come until the closing minutes, which means we’ll be waiting at least a year for the full series (if it were to get picked up). Check it out now on Amazon.

The show is directed by Golden Globe-winner Hiro Murai (“Atlanta”) and executive produced by Jonathan Krauss through his Affiliated Pictures banner. Murai will also serve as an executive producer as well as Evan Dunsky (Nurse Jackie). Lael Smith and Keir McFarlane serve as co-executive producers.

i just watched this last night and was surprised that JANE LEVY CO-STARS IN THIS!! i love me some Jane Levy. the pilot ep was interesting but i need a few more eps to really make sure. once Glenn’s Bernie returned as a zombie she became almost unbearable to watch. but again, love seeing Jane Levy in this!

I just watched the pilot episode today and I would really like to see this picked up.
Mrs. Close comes back from the dead and is very terrifying when she does. She is actually more scary then she was as Alex in Fatal Attraction.
I think they can do a lot with this, like the “stronger” stuff. I won’t mention any spoilers for those who have not watched it but I think most will enjoy and hope they pick it up.

Sea Oak has promise, certainly better than the other two pilots, which I didn’t get five minutes into before giving up. I liked the actors playing the nephew and the chattier niece (Min I think is her name)? Not quite sure about the tone or where they’ll go with this, yet, but seems like Amazon should give it a chance.

I really enjoyed this pilot… Glenn Close got creepy as hell in the end…. I really want them to go there and make it as horrific and scary as much as black comedy. First person she should go after and kill should be her goddamn boss.
