Theo Rossi and Gabriel Chavarria in Lowriders

While Universal plans for The First Purge this coming July, casting is underway for an accompanying series that landed at USA Network and Syfy.

War For the Planet of the Apes and Lowriders star Gabriel Chavarria has been tapped as the lead and Jessica Garza (Six) has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming “The Purge” series, reports Deadline.

The franchise is about one day each year when murder and mayhem is legalized. Franchise creator James DeMonaco oversees the series which will be an entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness and is slated to launch in concjunction with the next installiment in the movie franchise, The First Purge.

Chavarria will play Miguel, a US Marine with a hard edge and a noble mission. After receiving a cryptic letter from his little sister, Penelope (Garzia), he returns to town on Purge Night – prepared to face the senseless violence in the streets alone in order to protect what he loves most – his family.

Garzia’s Penelope belongs to a Purge-worshipping cult. Having pledged herself to be sacrificed at the behest of their charismatic leader, Penelope’s faith is tested when she is exposed to the ghastly realities of the Purge.

The project comes from DeMonaco, Blumhouse Television, the TV divisions of the movies’ producer Blumhouse Prods. and Universal Cable Productions. The films’ Platinum Dunes and DeMonaco’s longtime producing partner Sebastien K. Lemercier will executive produce.

Looking for New Episodes of “Chucky” on Peacock? Here’s What Changed

Chucky Peacock

We’ve been getting a lot of questions about this week’s episode of “Chucky” Season 3, which aired on USA and SYFY last night and was expected to be available on Peacock today. After all, we had previously been told that all new episodes of “Chucky” would be available for streaming the day after they aired, an exciting change from previous seasons of the hit horror series.

And while last week’s mid-season premiere of “Chucky” indeed did arrive on Peacock last Thursday, this week’s episode – titled “Panic Room” – is currently missing from the service.

So what’s going on here? The official @PeacockTVCare customer service account over on Twitter has been responding to fans who are wondering why they can’t stream this week’s episode of “Chucky” on Peacock, and their answer indicates a shift from the original plan.

They write, “New episodes of ‘Chucky’ Season 3 will be available on Peacock 7 days after they air on Syfy.”

That means that “Panic Room” won’t be available for streaming on Peacock until Wednesday, April 24, the same day the second-to-last episode of Season 3 arrives on USA and SYFY.

This a huge bummer for all the cord cutters out there, and anyone who’s unable to watch new episodes of “Chucky” as they air live on USA and/or SYFY. The show’s Peacock strategy has been wildly all over the place from the beginning, but it’s especially strange to have been promised next-day streaming only for the plan to suddenly change without any warning.

Just two more episodes remain in the back half of “Chucky” Season 3, which was split in half as a result of last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The final two episodes, “There Will Be Blood” and “Final Destination,” will be airing on April 24 and May 1, which means you can expect “There Will Be Blood” on Peacock May 1 and “Final Destination” on Peacock May 8.

A shame, considering these final three episodes are BONKERS in the best of ways.
