The future will be brighter than ever when Netflix’s “Black Mirror” returns for a fifth season. The tagline is (obviously) hilarious as it’s poking fun at the advancement of technology and how it only gets better, only there’s a dark side to everything.
“Black Mirror” is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.
While this past season wasn’t the best, it did include an outstanding Star Trek-themed episode that took on downloading consciousness into video games, and also produced a full-length horror anthology movie from director Colm McCarthy (Outcast and The Girl With All the Gifts). What surprise could be in store for Season 5?!
The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones.
