Hulu and Blumhouse’s “Into the Dark” Anthology Will Unleash Monthly Horror Films

Published

Hulu and Blumhouse recently announced that they’re partnering for a new project titled “Into the Dark,” and we’ve got full details on the project today. Essentially, it’s a monthly horror anthology series, with each episode actually being more of a feature film.

Via Indiewire, “Running year-round, “Into the Dark” will release new episodes on the first Friday of every month. For anyone worried about a lack of content, don’t: Each standalone entry will be feature-length, essentially turning the series into a Movie of the Month club run by Blumhouse.”

The first episode, “The Body,” will be released October 5. Each episode will be inspired by a holiday that’s found on the calendar in that particular month of release.

“The Body, starring Tom Bateman, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Aurora Perrineau, David Hull, and Ray Santiago, “follows a sophisticated, overconfident hitman who always carries out his work in style. He decides to take things even further one day by transporting his latest victim in plain sight, correctly assuming that self-absorbed LA partiers will simply be enamored with his elaborate “costume.” Eventually, as his window of opportunity to dispose of the body begins to close, Wilkes’ true colors reveal themselves to some groupies that have latched on to him. It becomes a battle of will and wits.”

“Flesh & Blood” arrives on November 2, starring Dermot Mulroney. “The actor will play Henry, a doting father trying to help his daughter, Kimberly, a teenager suffering from agoraphobia who has not left the house since her mother’s still-unsolved murder. Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine) directs.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

You know video game adaptations are hot when even Golden Axe is making the leap to the screen. And indeed it is, with Deadline reporting that the Sega Genesis video game franchise that debuted back in 1989 is getting an animated series at Comedy Central.

Comedy Central has given “Golden Axe” a 10-episode order, Deadline reports today.

The voice cast for the animated series from CBS Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film includes Matthew Rhys (The Americans)Danny Pudi (Mythic Quest), Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty), Liam McIntyre (Spartacus) and Carl Tart (Grand Crew).

“Described as a hilarious and loving homage to Sega’s video game series, Golden Axe follows veteran warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they once again battle to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder who just won’t seem to stay dead. Fortunately, this time they have the inexperienced and underprepared Hampton Squib on their side.”

Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) and Joe Chandler (American Dad!) will co-write the first episode and executive produce the series, with Chandler serving as showrunner.

The original Golden Axe video game was released in 1989, followed by sequels in 1991, 1992 and 1993. The series got a modern day upgrade with Golden Axe: Beast Rider in 2008.
