‘It Follows’ Star Daniel Zovatto Will Lead the Cast of Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels”
Two years after canceling “Penny Dreadful”, Showtime has ordered a spinoff of the Victorian-era drama titled “City of Angels”, and Deadline reports tonight that Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) has been tapped to lead the new series. Zovatto will play a character named Tiago.
The site notes, “While City of Angels is being positioned as an ensemble series, Tiago is considered the story’s male protagonist. LAPD’s first Mexican-American detective, Tiago grapples with racism, childhood trauma, and faith issues in 1938 Los Angeles.”
“A spiritual descendant of the story set in Victorian-era London, the next chapter employ a new vision, new characters and storylines. It opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension. Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil, “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” will explore an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.”
