[Video] There’s a Fun ‘Freddy’s Dead’ Tribute in ‘Injustice 2’

Now I’m playing with power!

As we told you earlier this year, Robert Englund officially becomes part of the DC Universe thanks to NetherRealm Studios’ just-released video game Injustice 2, which allows you to have Mortal Kombat-style battles to the death using a huge roster of DC heroes and villains. A perfectly cast Englund provided the voice for Scarecrow, and he managed to work in a fun little reference to his most iconic role.

At one point during the game, Scarecrow utters the line “Now I’m playing with power,” a direct nod to the very same line Freddy Krueger spouts off during the infamous Power Glove scene in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. All these years later, it’s pretty cool to hear Englund pay tribute to the video game kill scene in a real video game!

Injustice 2 was released on May 16th.

Injustice 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk. This long hard fought battle will end friendships, form new ones, and have more enemies.

The voice cast also includes Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) as Brainiac.

I’m a lot more excited that Robert Englund is voicing Scarecrow than the idea that he’s referencing the worst Nightmare on Elm Street of the entire franchise. The title Freddy’s Dead became more appropriate than it should have. Everyone I knew hated it. Other than Johnny Depp being hit in the face with a frying pan.

  • Darkknight2149

Robert Englund also voiced The Riddler in one of the Batman cartoons.

A lot of over-explaining going on in that video.

    • THE God

  • Sykes

Pity the thumbnail and image in the video are both of the Haley version of Freddy. 😉

  • Genther

Unfortunately in my opinion, didn’t care for Haley freddy! It’s pretty hard to fill England shoes, he created the character! New line, the house that freddy built!

  • Blade4693

Yeah he fits the character perfectly. All of his intro and clash dialogue is great, Englund did an awesome job.

  • Jeremy Wade

you can also put a fedora hat on to scarecrow as well. but when i heard him say the line . it put a smile on my face .
