Slasher Game ‘Dead by Daylight’ Hit Consoles Today; Play as Michael Myers Soon!

Has Friday the 13th: The Game made you hungry for more slasher fun?

We may not be seeing many slasher films on the big screen these days, but video games sure are making up for that on the small screen. In the wake of Gun Media and Illfonic’s Friday the 13th: The Game comes Behavior Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, a similar online multi-player slasher game that allows you to either hunt down victims or try to survive the night as a potential victim yourself.

For those wondering, yes, this is the same Dead by Daylight that was released on Steam last year, but it wasn’t until today that it was made available on Playstation 4 and XBox One. You can grab the physical release of either version for just $25.

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical, multiplayer (4 vs 1) horror game where one player takes on the role of a savage killer, and the other four players become survivors frantically scurrying to avoid being caught, tortured and killed. Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. The Killer plays in first-person and is more focused on their prey.

The Survivors’ goal in each encounter is to escape the Killing Ground without getting caught by the Killer – something that sounds easier than it is, especially when the environment changes every time you play.

As we told you last Halloween season, a DLC pack added to Dead by Daylight allows to play as either Michael Myers (killer) or Laurie Strode (survivor) in a special Haddonfield map, which is ripped straight out of the original Halloween. Behavior producer Mathieu Cote teased last year, “it’s based on the original movie. Michael is the ultimate stalker. So as opposed to all the other killers that we have, Michael sees you and he watches you. So the power of Michael grows as he’s stalking you. And at some point he will be able to build up that meter, that power, until he becomes evil incarnate.

UPDATE: We’ve just been informed that the Halloween DLC is not available on consoles yet, but is expected to be added soon!

Clive Barker

We told you earlier this month that horror legend Clive Barker is leaving the convention scene behind to focus entirely on his writing, with various upcoming projects in the works.

A series of final appearances from Barker will begin at Days of the Dead Chicago this month, and we’ve learned Barker will also be coming to Monster Mania in New Jersey.

Clive Barker will be signing at Monster Mania 59 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which runs from August 2 – August 4, 2024. Stay tuned for more info from the convention.

Barker’s official statement earlier this month explained, “… it’s time to focus entirely on writing. I’m not stopping public events because I’ve lost delight in meeting you all over the years. I’m as passionate as ever about sharing my imagination with readers and moviegoers around the world. In the very room where I’m writing these words, I have the manuscripts for a very large number of projects (Thirty-one of them), some very close to completion, others still telling themselves. There are some wild projects in this collection of works, whether close to finished or done. There are also stories that you all knew I would be finishing.”

“Abarat IV and V are amongst the books at my feet,” he continued. “So is the Third and final book of The Art and the sequel to The Thief of Always. There are also return visits to characters and mythologies you may have thought I would never return to.

“I hope I am still able to surprise you in the decades ahead.”
