[TV] “Bates Motel” Season Finale Trailer Comes Out of the Box

The end is here… finally.

Last time I said something negative about “Bates Motel” you guys literally destroyed me in the comment section. Well, after giving the second half of Season 2 a shot, the only reason to tune in each week is to see Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates. She’s incredible. Outside of her performance, I find Norman (played by Freddie Highmore) to be an annoying brat who cried every single time he gets turned on. That’s his trait? Seriously?

Anyways, if you guys are enjoying it, don’t let me be a wet blanket. I’ll tune into the season finale next Monday just to see what they set up for Season 3, although I don’t anticipate much. You can see the official trailer for A&E’s finale below (too bad they still haven’t figured out how to release it in HD).

What are you expecting from it? What do you want from Season 3?

In episode “The Immutable Truth”, airing Monday, May 5 at 10PM ET/PT, “Norman (Freddie Highmore) is haunted by a tragic event in his past. Norma (Vera Farmiga) tries to save Norman from making a horrible mistake. Romero (Nestor Carbonell) and Dylan (Max Thieriot) try to bring closure to the drug war. Emma (Olivia Cooke) makes a decision about her future at Bates Motel.” Kathleen Robertson, Michael Eklund, Rebecca Creskoff and Michael O’Neill guest star.

I thought the first season was pretty good but the second season is incredibly lame. I watch the show for the mental abuse of Norman and how he got to his point of being a serial killer….. instead, I see a high school drama with a bunch of common townsfolk. I don’t mean to bash the show, just that this season was severely lacking. It’s not at season 8 of Dexter level… yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael C Hall did a cameo as Dexter, renting out a room for a few nights…….

Yes, the high school/Twilight drama is what made be lose interest last season. I had hoped for more this season (as I just ranted above!) and won’t be watching next season.

I really enjoyed this season overall and can’t wait to see final ep.

I think the entire two seasons have been a real disappointment. I was expecting something different I guess and won’t be watching next season. For me, the “real” backstory–be it Gein or Bloch’s novel–had much to draw from, but once they introduced the selling drugs subplot, and then Norman and his friends at school and Norma and Norman trying out for a musical (?) and then killing someone off each week…it seemed like the writers have lost their way. I think anyone could skip this entire season and still follow the plot. Norman went into a fugue state and killed his teacher the end of last season. That was the big “reveal” from last week, but we already knew it.

And there’s no “mood” to any of this, and while people rave about the acting, I find the character of mother really “off” — again, going back to the novel/Gein story. She wasn’t someone who would attend council meetings or was so attractive that handsome, rich men would date her. By creating this character, she’s very “normal” when in reality, she and Norman and her family lived an isolated life and she was a crazy religious fanatic. Since the series ignores all of this, there’s no motive for Norman’s guilt/rage. Norma Bates is INSANE, and people who are mentally ill can’t function the way she does in public and private. If they would at least have her break down once she’s home, but she usually acts the same there. Just…”normal.” (Most of the time.)

Stressing Norman out by locking him in a box so he goes into a fugue state and then remembers killing the teacher…? I mean, they sure took us a LONG way around the bend to get there–something that occurred last season!

I was expecting something like DERANGED (1974):

but this is more like TWILIGHT–Norman is simply too nice and normal and so is Norma and they are both too visible in the community. I wish it had been a period piece set in the 1950s and show Norman struggle at school, show the awkwardness of his and Norman’s relationship, public and privately. It would fascinating for the townspeople trying to reach them instead of Norma trying to win a seat at city council!

Instead, relatives seem to come and go (the brother you never heard much about who raped me/was your father…and let’s kill him!), characters come and go or vanish or leave town…, plots seem to come and go (human trafficking?), and each week, someone gets whacked! (And Norman isn’t even doing most of the killing!!)

I remember the brilliant first season of TWIN PEAKS–a town with secrets, which was great, and BATES MOTEL used it as a template, which was a mistake. Norman and his mother have the secrets–that’s the story, it’s about them, not about the town.

Really? How to release it in HD? The reason why we gave you the business is because you guys shit on the show at any chance you can get. Get use to it buddy. It is coming back for Season 3 and it is one of A&E’s top hits. It’s such a good hit the Friday the 13th series is trying to emulate it with Jason’s origins with his Mom which will be a blatant ripoff of Bates Motel. But let me guess, you will end up loving that one instead because Sean(OverthehillCunningham) is producing. Bates Motel’s actors are amazing. Emma is about to Blow Up in Hollywood right now. Freddie Highmore will get to his sweet spot soon. Let the story develop. It’s only season 2. I hate this We Want Everything Now Generation. You guys have no patience what so ever.
