[Vintage Video] The ‘Evil Dead: Hail to the King’ Commercial Was Pretty Great

Published

Long before Friday the 13th: The Game was even a remote possibility, horror fans were treated to the Evil Dead franchise’s first post-Commodore 64 foray into the video game world with Evil Dead: Hail to the King, a survival horror game that was released for PlayStation, Dreamcast and Microsoft Windows on December 5th, 2000.

The Resident Evil-esque game pit chainsaw-handed Ash up against an onslaught of Deadites, finally allowing fans of the films to play as Bruce Campbell’s most iconic character and do with him what he does best. Much like Starz’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Hail to the King was set several years after the events of the original trilogy, bringing Ash back to that infamous cabin in the woods… where all hell, naturally, breaks loose once more.

While most agreed that Evil Dead: Hail to the King left much to be desired, there was one thing that made it pretty special: Bruce Campbell himself provided the voice for Ash, at the time reprising the role for the first time in nearly 10 years. Campbell voiced both Ash and Evil Ash in the game, which needless to say made it a huge treat for fans – all things considered.

And Bruce even appeared in the original commercial for the game!

Yes, Evil Dead: Hail to the King got its own commercial, which saw Bruce’s next door neighbor trying to become Ash by getting a chainsaw surgically affixed to his hand. Why? Well, we all want to be Ash, don’t we? Thankfully, the game made it so we didn’t have to undergo such a horrifying procedure!

Check out the awesome vintage commercial below.

As someone who is obsessed with UFOS (or more recently known as UAPs) and the concept of extraterrestrials, I love a good documentary. Sightings have been on the rise since the 1940s, with the atomic bomb seemingly acting as a catalyst for new visitors. But what are these UFOs/UAPs? Is there an explanation or are they simply beyond our explanation? Why are they here? Who are they? How much do our governments know? The questions are endless and so are the documentaries that attempt to uncover the secrets behind decades of sightings and alleged confrontations.

Whether you’re a seasoned viewer or new to the rabbit hole, there’s always a handful of interesting documentaries to get your neurons firing and leave you with sleepless nights. SCREAMBOX is investigating with the addition of several docs, all streaming now on the Bloody Disgusting-powered service. Here’s the breakdown:

Aliens Uncovered: ET or Man-Made (2022): The crash of Roswell wasn’t meant for New Mexico. In 1947, a neighboring state had 3 major sightings that were swept under the rug.

Aliens Uncovered: The Golden Record (2023): In the late 70s, the US government launched a message to our distant neighbors.

Roswell (2021): This high-flying documentary examines the July 1947 crash of a United States Army Air Forces balloon at a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. Theories claim the crash was actually that of a flying saucer, but what is the truth?
