Kill of the Week: Human Ice Cream Sundae in ‘Prom Night 3’

Published

on

Every week, we spotlight a kill that we just can’t get enough of. This is Kill of the Week.

Just three years after the release of Prom Night 2, Mary Lou Maloney was brought back from the grave for 1990’s Prom Night 3: The Last Kiss. Actress Courtney Taylor took over the role for the franchise’s third installment, centered on the spirit of Mary Lou’s quest to win over the heart of a hunky high school student.

Anyone who gets in the way of that, well, they don’t live much longer.

Like the previous film, Prom Night 3 took more than a few things from the Nightmare on Elm Street playbook, doubling down on the surreal kills in a way that was completely nonsensical and totally absurd. The camp factor is high in this one, and the death scenes are nothing if not interesting conversation pieces.

In one scene, a football tossed by Mary Lou turns into a deadly drill in midair, pinning an unlucky student to the goal post. But perhaps the most ridiculous death in Prom Night 3 is the murder of the high school’s science teacher, who is first impaled through the hands by a pair of ice cream cones. Like, almost literally crucified… by ice cream.

Later, we see that Mary Lou has literally turned his corpse into a banana split.

Hey, you have to applaud the bonkers creativity, right?!

Little Mermaid horror

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
