If you’re a fan of Peter Jackson’s horror films, you are going to LOVE this.
You’ve probably never heard the name, but back in the ’80s, Rik Carter made a handful of wonderful short films that probably should’ve launched a career directing features.
Carter, credited as a special effects makeup artist on both A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and the TV series “Freddy’s Nightmares,” certainly had a knack for makeup effects work, which was often on full display in his shorts. Carter’s second short, in particular, is a blood-soaked ’80s delight.
Made in 1987, Horror Brunch!!! won several awards and was shown on TV around the world at the time, including an airing on USA’s “Night Flight.” But it has largely flown under the radar over the years, racking up just 17,000 views on YouTube in the 10 years since Carter uploaded it.
In Horror Brunch!!!, all sorts of monsters, murderers, and bizarre accidents are unleashed upon an unsuspecting group of people who are dining at a restaurant. Oodles of fun practical effects are on display throughout, and iconic characters like Norman Bates and Leatherface even pop up towards the end.
If you love gory ’80s flicks, you absolutely need to watch this one, as it’s essentially a blood-soaked love letter to the era… and it was actually made during that era!
