[Kill of the Week] Pyramid Head Skins a Woman in ‘Silent Hill’

Every week, we spotlight a kill that we just can’t get enough of. This is Kill of the Week.

Fresh off a revisit, I feel pretty comfortable saying that Christophe Gans’ Silent Hill is one of the best video game adaptations ever made. Granted, it’s a bit too long and deeply convoluted, but the 2006 film is also one of the most nightmarish and gorgeously shot horror films in recent history. It’s pure insanity from start to finish, loaded with moments that are as unforgettable as you could ever hope for a horror movie to be.

Pyramid Head, an iconic villain from the video games, doesn’t get to do all that much in the movie, but holy shit does he make an impact when he decides to strike.

Easily the most unforgettable moment in Silent Hill is the death of Anna, a Brethren member who briefly hangs around with main characters Rose and Cybil. After the alarm sounds and the town begins to turn into a nightmarish hellscape, Rose and Cybil seek refuge inside the church. As for Anna, she’s left out in the cold.

With Pyramid Head.

The big guy picks up Anna with one hand, holding her above his head like she’s an action figure. He then rips off her clothes and then, well, her skin comes next. Pyramid Head grabs hold of Anna’s flesh, twisting and pulling until he rips all of the skin on her body completely off. Naturally, he tosses the skin suit at the church doors.

Legit one of the wildest, most jaw-dropping kills you’ll ever find in a horror movie.

I love the character and especially this kill! I’m not the biggest gamer around, but I do enjoy a good one, especially Horror ones. ‘Silent Hill’ was very creepy and the movie was definitely a loyal adaptation! You know whenever I do sit and watch both of these films I can’t help but wish the people behind ‘Resident Evil’ would’ve elected to go this route. That franchise could’ve been so much better!

Resident evil franchise made a billon dollars so why are you complaining

Silent Hill movie is filled with great death scenes. This one is the best but I also adore Cybil (heartbreaking) and Christabella’s deaths.

    Nice! Good movie!

The fun thing about this iteration of Silent Hill is that every single person in the town was already dead. They just didn’t know it. Trapped in a purgatory state where their actions would result in a journey to hell or staying in a neutral zone.

The film makes on thing clear, there is no happy ending for any of these characters, no heaven to look forward to, only Silent Hill or worse.

Umm did you watch the movie?

    • Saturn

And of course everybody knew that already, even without seeing the movie.
Be polite and use SPOILERS for those who haven’t seen the movie! 🙂

“Please don’t spoil movies from 2006.”

        • Saturn

There are new horror fans coming along all the time who may not have seen the movie, it doesn’t matter it’s from 2006.
How would you have felt if certain of your favourite horror films were spoiled for you before you saw them?
The age of a movie is irrelevant.
There have been people spoiling movies in here that were only released the day earlier. It’s impolite.
I could easily pepper spoilers into threads about movies that have had a UK release date before the US – but I don’t.

It would be easy to begin a post with something like : Spoiler Alert For Those Who Haven’t Seen The Movie……
But instead, in this case, straight into the actual spoiler with absolutely no warning what-so-ever.

It shouldn’t matter if the movie is 6 days old, 6 years old, or 6 decades old – it’d be nice if more people were a little more considerate of others.
It’s no different to when someone may have hired a movie, having never seen it before (for the sake of argument, Saw, when it was released), and the video store clerk says “dude – that twist at the end of Saw where it turns out…….”

Don’t worry, they didn’t spoil anything. I don’t know where they got that idea from because it’s certainly not in the film

I don’t get the hate for the silent hill movie. It’s actually a pretty great adaption, and they really nailed the atmosphere.

    • Nahuel Benvenuto

is nothing like the game, the atmosphere is ok though

      • Grimphantom

Yet you wanted something like Resident Evil or Bloodrayne? This is probably the closest one that did try to make it as the game.

      • Rohan

Whadya mean it’s nothing like the game? Sure, pyramid head was kinda shoehorned in, but everything else is pretty spot on.

  • J Jett

this movie is one of my all time faves (shame the sequel was so awful). Pyramid Head fucking rules! i love how you hear the heavy dragging sound of his blade before you even see him. the scene of him attacking(?) Rose & Cybil in the closet is amazing!….

  • Jay Bennett

Dare I say the best video game movie?

    • Noel

I thought it was really good as well. Such a shame the sequel wasn’t as good.

      • Jay Bennett

I think a lot of it was due to them just taking stuff from the game that fans loved, like the music. Dont fix what aint broken

    • Nahuel Benvenuto

nah, Warcraft is the best movie, this would be a close second but is not a good movie sadly

      • Jay Bennett

Never seen or played the warcraft games so I wouldnt have the point of view for that

    • TEDDYX

      Better than RE ?

      • Jay Brezzy

        Insanely better…

  • Nahuel Benvenuto

    bad movie

  • Lisa G

This movie *infuriates* me, and yet I keep watching it.

    • ShadowInc

It’s very flawed, but it still has some great horror moments.
