Evil Dead Rise breakout Alyssa Sutherland taps into her dark side once again in the psychological creature horror movie The Room Below, which is now available on Digital at home.

“Haunted by the loss of her son, a mother sees a second chance in a boy who enters her life at the perfect moment. But as the creature hidden within her home grows more dangerous and difficult to control, a retired detective investigating a missing child begins unraveling a web of secrets that leads straight to her door, forcing a deadly confrontation with the truth.”

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Dracula, Velvet Goldmine), Bobby Gilchrist (Shapeless, The Invisible Raptor), and Gilbert Bradman (Transfusion, The Twelve) also star.

Kurt Martin (Moon Rock for Monday) wrote and directed The Room Below.

Throwback slasher Deathwoods is now available on Digital and streaming only on Screambox.

Decades after a gruesome murder-suicide involving the Wallace family gave rise to disturbing local legends, the forest remains haunted by stories of a grotesque figure lurking deep within the trees. In the present day, Scott’s friends Kyle and Jessica plan a weekend camping trip to help him recover from a painful breakup by introducing him to Jessica’s friend Michelle.

What begins as an attempt to reconnect and escape everyday life soon spirals into terror as the group realizes the legend haunting the woods may be real. As paranoia, isolation, and violence escalate, the friends are forced into a desperate struggle to survive the horrors hidden within Deathwoods.

The Fall franchise heads to a new location with new characters in brand new sequel Fall 2: Deadpoint, which opened in theaters nationwide this past Wednesday night.

Harriet Slater (Tarot) stars in Fall 2: Deadpoint alongside Arsema Thomas (“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story”) and Tom Brittney (Greyhound).

Michael & Peter Spierig (Predestination, Jigsaw) direct Fall 2: Deadpoint from a script by Fall writers Scott Mann (who also directed the original) and Jonathan Frank.

From the survival hit that tapped into the fear of heights and left friends stranded at the top of a tower comes a climb that goes higher, gets deadlier, and hits with next-level adrenaline.

Something inhuman breaks free from the dark depths of a coal mine in Dark Hollow. The Appalachian creature feature is now available on Digital from Brainstorm Media.

Written and Directed by Daniel Byers (Eradication), Dark Hollow sees a nightmarish monster emerge from the depths of an Appalachian coal mine.

A young mother must hunt down the creature to protect her home and save her family.

June Shreiner, David Garelik, J. Stephen Brantley, Brennon Weese, Ian Deighan, Jonathan Spivey, Sean Michael Wilkinson, Sharon Murray, Harvey Roberts, Brian O’Neill, Annie Cook, and Radu Spinghel star in Dark Hollow.

Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) heads back into the world of The Guest for A24‘s Onslaught, and the action-horror movie is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Wingard explains, “I look at this as a cap in the trilogy between The Guest and You’re Next. It’s not like a direct sequel, in the sense that it’s a continuation of those characters, but it takes place in the same town as The Guest. The idea is that the secret programs we’re seeing going on here are other little aspects of the same thing David’s character came from in The Guest.”

“So you could actually technically call this a sequel,” Wingard admits. “It’s in the same universe.”

The duo behind The Guest, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, re-teamed for Onslaught, which stars Adria Arjona in the leading role.

Here’s the synopsis: “When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.”

Rebecca Hall (The Night House, Godzilla x Kong) and Dan Stevens (The Guest) also star in Adam Wingard’s new movie Onslaught alongside Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, Eric Wareheim, Drew Starkey, and Alex “Poatan” Pereira. 

Horror icons unite in the fairytale-inspired horror movie Ever After, with Kane Hodder as the Big Bad Wolf, Michael Berryman as The Huntsman, Malcolm McDowell as the Frog King, and Bonnie Aarons as The Witch. The film is now playing in select theaters.

In Ever After, “When a group of girlfriends head to a remote forest lodge for a bachelorette party, the fun quickly turns into terror as they discover the forest is home to bloodthirsty lunatics who perceive themselves to be characters from classic fairy tales. As the lines between fantasy and reality blur, survival becomes the girls’ only goal.”

The characters featured in this one include twisted versions of the Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf, The Witch, the Frog King, and even Rumpelstiltskin.

“As the celebration turns into terror, the women realize they’ve wandered into a ritual older than the forest itself. Trapped, hunted, and outnumbered, they must survive a night where innocence is mocked, fantasy becomes brutality, and fairy tales are enforced with blood.”

Mark Sheppard, Lydia Pearl Pentz, Rebecka Johnston, Riana Emma Balla, Miklós B. Székely, and Maria de Sá also star in the film. Laszlo Illes directed Ever After.

Night terrors spill over into the waking world in the supernatural chiller Parasomnia. The horror movie from director James Ross II made its debut on Shudder beginning today.

Parasomnia follows “Riley, a young woman tormented by night terrors and a past of unresolved tragedy. When her best friend is the latest to go missing, she begins to suspect the demonic figure lurking in her sleep has crossed over into the real world.” Jasmine Mathews, RJ Brown, Sally Stewart, Stephen Barrington, Danny Brown, and Simon Longnight star.

If the film’s tagline, “Don’t Fall Asleep,” wasn’t already an indicator, Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street inspired director James Ross II for his feature debut.

The filmmaker said in a statement, “Parasomnia contains the DNA of many genre pieces influential to my development as a filmmaker. One thing I’ve wanted to explore involved drawing attention to some of life’s more mundane and involuntary aspects and making them scary, like sleeping. When Wes Craven made A Nightmare on Elm Street, he brought forth an untapped goldmine of fear that resonates decades later due to the foundation of its scares being built on universal human experience – nightmares.

“I’d like to bring a fresh perspective on the frightening aspects of sleep and take the audience on an immersive experience that will stay in their mind long after the credits roll.”

Mockingbird Pictures brings the Vietnamese found footage horror movie Lầu Chú Hoả: The Deadliest Mansion to select theaters in the United States beginning today.

The film is playing in AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters. Check local listings.

The story pulls from a well-known Vietnamese urban legend: a band of young streamers force their way into the notoriously haunted Hứa family estate, hoping the stunt will bring them fame and money. Instead their broadcast captures a dormant, malevolent force stirring back to life, pulling them into the century-old tale of the “Ghost of the Hứa Family.”

Hùng Trần directed the found footage horror movie.

“Found footage has the power to make audiences feel as though they are experiencing the horror themselves,” producer Lee Jin Sung said in a statement shared by Variety this week. “Working with Hive Media Corp allowed us to bring that experience to a uniquely Vietnamese legend while preserving the identity and atmosphere that make the story distinctive.”

“Lầu Chú Hoả: The Deadliest Mansion delivers one of the most intense Vietnamese horror experiences in recent years,” said Mockingbird’s Phong Duong. “We believe this is a film that can travel, and we want audiences around the world to experience that fear for themselves.”

The Dracula 4K Limited Collector’s Edition features a brand new 4K restoration of the classic film, notably including previously cut scenes and footage that has been unseen for 60 years.

Cut by censors and distributors at the time of the film’s original release, the lost footage was discovered in a Warner Bros. warehouse, and the unseen footage runs around three minutes long.

Hammer previews, “For over six decades, Hammer’s Dracula was cut, censored, and buried… until now.”

Inside this brand new release, you’ll find Dracula as director Terence Fisher intended it: five versions of the film, including the uncensored UK and US cuts. And for the first time ever, the editor’s workprint: the rough, unfinished cut that went back and forth between Hammer and the censors as they fought over what audiences would be allowed to see. It’s the only surviving cutting copy for any Hammer film; no other workprint like it exists for any Hammer title, anywhere.

The release also includes over 22 hours of new content, including Lee’s own niece, Dame Harriet Walter, on the real Christopher Lee, Dacre Stoker on his great-granduncle’s novel, and Doug Bradley narrating a dramatised reading of an unfilmed Hammer script.

For starters, John Carpenter’s original slasher classic is being re-released into 294 Regal theaters nationwide tonight, spanning 39 states and 91 markets. Here’s the full weekend lineup…

In the original classic, Michael Myers has spent the last 15 years locked away inside a sanitarium under the care of child psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis after brutally killing his sister, Judith. On the night of October 30, 1978, Myers escapes and makes his way back to Haddonfield — the night HE came home — turning a night of tricks and treats into something much more sinister for three young women, including Laurie Strode, the star-making role for Jamie Lee Curtis.

And then in Halloween II, while Dr. Loomis hunts for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, and The Shape is not far behind her.

Finally in Halloween III, kids all over America want Silver Shamrock masks for Halloween. Doctor Daniel Challis seeks to uncover a plot by Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran.

Cate Blanchett leads the cast; the two-time Oscar winner plays the Alpha Gang’s indomitable leader. Seydoux, Bautista, Depp, and Keough will play the gang members.

David Zellner tells THR, “We liked the idea of setting it in the ’50s and in Eastern Europe, but with everything from the point of view of the aliens. Taking the form of these bikers, they represented the consummate outsider on this universal level with them. And we built it out from there.”

“I thought it would be funny if it’s an invasion movie all from their perspective,” Nathan Zellner explains, “and they have really no idea how to accomplish that goal.”

The spec script was written by Jacob Rainer, and The Hollywood Reporter lets us know that the Scott Strauss-run label Badlands has picked it up with the intention of turning into a film.

Carson Reeves is attached to executive produce Wildman.

Badland is the genre arm of Thunder Road, and Thunder Road is fittingly the outfit behind John Wick. The first horror movie from the Badlands label is Crawlers, releasing this Halloween.

AR Content, Vertigo and Blumhouse Atomic Monster are teaming to remake Vincent Must Die, and Variety reports that David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring: Last Rites) will write and direct. Producers include Roy Lee for Vertigo and Michael Clear for Atomic Monster.

Directed by Stéphan Castang, the original Vincent Must Die follows Vincent, an ordinary man who suddenly finds himself under physical attack by anyone who makes eye contact with him.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will make his feature directorial debut with the film, though he’s previously written a handful of successful horror movies including Orphan, The Conjuring 2, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Conjuring: Last Rites.

“I’m so grateful to my collaborators at AR Content, Vertigo and Atomic Monster for bringing me this opportunity and trusting in my vision,” said Johnson-McGoldrick. “I immediately fell in love with the film, and so having a chance to step into this crazy world they created is a dream come true.”

In the clip, Austin Abrams’ character finds himself trapped in the city with infected all around him, and this particular group of infected are standing atop tall buildings. One by one, they jump to their deaths, the bodies raining down on Abrams’ character like exploding blood bags.

It’s an AWESOME clip, and you can watch the nearly 3-minute sequence below. As you might’ve guessed, the film is Rated R for “strong bloody violence, gore and language throughout.”

Variety reports this morning that Focus Features will run an awards campaign in the hopes of getting Obsession in next year’s Academy Awards race, and for starters they’ll be campaigning Inde Navarrette in the Best Actress category. Of course, it’s up to the Academy whether or not she actually gets nominated, but this is the first important step to making that happen.

Variety describes the Obsession campaign as “a wide-ranging effort from Focus Features that will seek recognition across nearly every category the film is eligible to enter.”

“Alongside Navarrette,” Variety details in their exclusive report, “the distributor plans to campaign Curry Barker as a rare triple threat in best director, original screenplay and film editing, the same three categories Sean Baker swept for his best picture winner Anora (which he also took alongside one more as producer). It is a combination of above-the-line and below-the-line recognition that positions him as one of the season’s marquee multi-hyphenate stories.”

This year’s ceremony included major wins for both Sinners and Weapons, which suggests the tides could be turning. This is where the story of American Abyss begins…

Palmyra is a small city on a peninsula in northern Michigan. For most of its history it has been a sleepy tourist town. But in the early months of 2027, the ATF and DHS planned to raid the headquarters of an extremist right-wing militia known as the Liberty Lions. Sympathizers in local law enforcement tipped the Lions off and what followed was a bloody shootout with dozens of casualties on both sides. Following this violent clash, a city-wide evacuation began, but before it could resolve Palmyra was hit by a second disaster: The Flash.

Late one evening, the night sky filled with bright streaks of light “… as if the stars were cascading down from the heavens.” Just as quickly as it came, the light vanished, leaving behind only confusion. The remaining citizens tried to flee the city, but were quarantined before they could escape.

Now, over 100,000 people are trapped within the city. The fighting between the Feds and the Lions is ongoing. And, following the Flash, strange things have started creeping out of the rubble in Palmyra. Temporal anomalies, paranormal events and strange creatures from diseased citizens to floating ‘flesh cubes’ haunt the city in ever greater numbers.

Everything in Palmyra is awful, and no one is safe. And yet, the people stranded here have found refuge in their local communities. Survivors band together, trade amongst themselves, and navigate their new surroundings. We’re sad to learn that Victor Miller has passed away this week at 86.

“Yesterday my father, Victor Miller, went to his final reward,” son Ian Miller writes on Instagram. “He was almost always the smartest, funniest person in whatever room he was in. He inspired in me, and many others, a love of photography, music, and storytelling.”

Miller’s son adds, “He had a helluva run and will be missed dearly.”

Prior to writing the original Friday the 13th, Victor Miller had written the film Manny’s Orphans for director Sean Cunningham, who of course directed Friday the 13th just two years later.

Victor Miller’s writing credits also include the 1982 film A Stranger Is Watching, along with TV shows “One Life to Live,” “Guiding Light,” “General Hospital,” and “Married With Children.”

Victor Miller later returned to the horror genre to write the film Rock, Paper, Scissors in 2017, which was directed by fellow horror legend Tom Holland (Child’s Play, Fright Night).

But it’s of course Friday the 13th that will forever be the enduring legacy of Victor Miller in the world of entertainment, and what a legacy that is. The 1980 horror classic changed the game for the horror genre and launched a legendary saga that still continues to this day, with Victor Miller on board as an executive producer for the upcoming prequel series “Crystal Lake.”

The A24 series, set to premiere on Peacock this October, will jump back in time to explore the events that paved the way for the story Miller and Cunningham told all those years ago.

Victor Miller is survived by his wife, two sons, and his grandson.

In the film, “When a group of sorority sisters finds themselves trapped with a vengeful killer, party-girl Nora knows that the drunker she gets, the more her tipsy memories start revealing clues about who’s murdering her friends. But she’d better hurry, or her next vodka soda might be her last.”

Siena Agudong (Carrie), Brec Bassinger (Final Destination Bloodlines), and Aliyah’s Interlude (English Teacher) lead the cast of Jem Garrard’s Buzzkill.

Garrard said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “I loved Suzanne’s script and was excited by her spin on the slasher genre. Nora isn’t your traditional final girl. She screws up constantly and is spectacularly ill-equipped for what’s happening around her, but we never stop rooting for her.

“Siena [Agudong] has incredible comic instincts and brings so much heart to Nora. I couldn’t have asked for a better ensemble. Everyone brought such a distinct energy to their character, and I’m excited for audiences to meet this lovable, dysfunctional sorority.”

Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive scoop on upcoming film The Kentucky Goblins, which promises a brand new found footage descent into the terrifying world of cryptozoology.

Frogman took audiences deep into the legend of Ohio’s infamous Loveland Frogman, blending cryptid folklore, found-footage, and a healthy dose of horror. Now, the cameras are getting set to roll once again—and something horrifying is waiting to be found.

“We’ve heard from fans who are curious about what’s happening in the larger cryptid world beyond Frogman, and The Kentucky Goblins is our first attempt to explore that question,” says Cousins. “Thankfully, we’re just as excited to explore other cryptids, what they’re doing here, and how they might all be connected! There are so many cryptids I think deserve their time in the spotlight, but when I started researching the 1955 Kentucky Goblins incident, the idea of what that could look like as a movie came together incredibly quickly. I couldn’t wait to bring it to life.”

Joining Cousins, who is serving as writer, producer, and director on the project for his Shocktreatment Productions, is filmmaker and producer Vincente DiSanti of Womp Stomp Films.

The Kentucky Goblins have arrived to ruin Christmas!

Now, Nancy, alongside her children Tami (Sydney Steinberg), Easton (Nate Caywood), and Shannon (Krsy Fox), must put aside their inter-family differences and band together to survive a subterranean menace before their holiday is destroyed forever.

A brand new 4K restoration of Dracula starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing is on the way this October, and Hammer has released the official 4K restoration trailer this week.

But this isn’t just any ordinary 4K restoration. The upcoming restoration of Hammer’s Dracula will feature previously cut scenes and footage that has been unseen for 60 years!

Cut by censors and distributors at the time of the film’s original release, the lost footage was discovered in a Warner Bros. warehouse, and the unseen footage runs around three minutes long.

Hammer previews, “Painstakingly restored in 4K from the best original archival materials sourced from around the world, this definitive restoration includes footage believed missing for over six decades — deemed too shocking for UK and US audiences at the time, and previously seen only during the film’s original 1958 Japanese theatrical release. Restored by Hammer Films and Silver Salt Restoration in partnership with Warner Bros, this is the cut the censors tried to bury, finally uncensored.”

“Warner Brothers, they have this massive, massive storage near LAX where everything from the 1920s onwards is there,” new Hammer owner John Gore told Deadline. “And they found the director’s cut of the original 1958 Dracula. So we will be unlocking that and the world will get to see the bits they weren’t seeing, which is mostly to do with how Dracula dies at the end.”

Gore goes on to explain, “… they had to trim a bit of the sexual stuff and then how he’s destroyed at the end. They cut quite a lot out because they went, ‘It’s too gruesome.’ And now that’s back in. All the crucial points that were axed are now back in.”

The cast includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Joey Pollari, and Jessica Lange. The epic cast also features Avantika, Jamie Brewer, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Alex Consani, Frances Conroy, Mat Fraser, Seth Gabel, Orlando Jones, Paul Anthony Kelly, John Carroll Lynch, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Fedor Steer, Mena Suvari, Zach Villa, John Waters and more.

And the returning players aren’t playing new characters, but rather reprising their fan favorite characters from seasons past. Many actors will even be playing multiple past characters.

That means Sarah Paulson will play Cordelia Goode, Jessica Lange will play Constance Langdon, Evan Peters will play Kai Anderson, and John Carroll Lynch will play Twisty the Clown from “American Horror Story: Freak Show”… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Unfortunately, this week’s fresh update brings some really bad news.

The live action series is dead in the water at this time.

“Gargoyles” Creator Greg Weisman tells Comics Online, “Well, I know the live-action side of it is… Atomic Monster had the license to develop a live-action Gargoyles for Disney+, and that’s dead. I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action.”

Gary Dauberman was to serve as writer, executive producer and showrunner for the series with Atomic Monster, the company run by Wan and Michael Clear, executive producing.

The original series premise involved gargoyle statues moved from a castle in Scotland to modern day New York. Once in the Big Apple, the statues awaken from a thousand-year-old spell and take on the mantle of protecting the city, becoming warriors by night.

Three seasons of “Gargoyles” were produced in total, with fans frequently still begging for its return to this day. The series originally aired from October 24, 1994, to February 15, 1997.

There has been a good deal of renewed interest in “Gargoyles” in recent years, with various collectibles emerging from brands like NECA and Funko, along with new comics from Dynamite.

“So it’s gnarly. It’s brutal,” Cregger continues. “A very bloody affair.”

He also tells Empire, “Fleshing out what [the Umbrella Corporation is] up to and how the T-virus works, that’s not what this movie is. This movie is about one dude’s journey on foot, fighting monsters. I don’t give a fuck about checking boxes. All I cared about was just telling a fun story. We step on the gas at about eight minutes in and never take our foot off the floor.”

Variety reports, “Paradise Lost will bow Sept. 13 at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre as part of TIFF’s Special Presentations lineup, marking Yeon’s fourth appearance at the festival.”

In Yeon Sang-ho’s Paradise Lost…

“A mother’s young son mysteriously disappears along with a bus full of children. Years later, he unexpectedly returns — but has changed in ways she could never have imagined.”

“I am thrilled to present Paradise Lost to North American audiences through Well Go USA,” the filmmaker said in a statement. “Paradise Lost is a psychological thriller that dives deep into the abyss of a mother, caught between the son she resurrected in a virtual world through AI and the son who returns after being presumed dead.”

“Even though Colony and Paradise Lost are entirely different in the way they present fear and entertainment, I hope North American audiences are able to enjoy both,” he added.

Ti West’s vision for A Christmas Carol? A spookier version than we’ve seen before.

Ti West explains to EW, “I’ve always thought no one’s really made the movie version where the ghosts are a little bit spooky.”

“I love the book, so I’m really not trying to do a spin on the story that is not faithful to the story or is some sort of meta tweak on it,” he tells the outlet. “It is genuine. It has its own perspective, and it has its own places where it deviates a little bit. And stylistically, I do certain things with it that are maybe in my wheelhouse, but they’re all very much in reverence of the text.”

Paramount is bringing Scrooge to theaters on November 13, 2026.

Andrea Riseborough (Possessor), Daisy Ridley (Star Wars franchise), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games franchise), Charlie Murphy (“Peaky Blinders”), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Ellie Bamber (“Willow”) also star in Ebenezer.

Written by Charles Dickens, the classic tale of A Christmas Carol has been adapted for the screen countless times over the years, with notable film adaptations including Scrooge (1951) starring Alastair Sim, Scrooge (1970) starring Albert Finney, A Christmas Carol (1984) starring George C. Scott, Scrooged (1988) starring Bill Murray, The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) starring Michael Caine, and A Christmas Carol (2009) starring Jim Carrey.

A Christmas Carol is classically a period piece ghost story. As Luiz H.C. wrote here on Bloody Disgusting, “Isn’t it weird how the single most influential piece of Christmas-related media is technically a horror story? One can even make the argument that Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol paved the way for the rise of Victorian Spiritualism during the following decade.”

The Blood Countess will have its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 17.

The film is said to be a “sumptuous adventure and bizarro black comedy.”

Decades after her mysterious disappearance, the Blood Countess reemerges in modern-day Vienna, where she reunites with her devoted underling, Hermione, to track down a dangerous book with the power to destroy all evil — including all vampires such as themselves.

The duo embarks on a scavenger hunt through the city’s magnificent historic sites and conscript the countess’s melancholic nephew — a vegetarian vampire — and his psychotherapist as they expand their search to Bohemia. Meanwhile, a pair of vampirologists and a police inspector remain hot on their trail.

“Morbidly funny and dazzlingly decadent,” this reinvention of the vampire myth is directed by Ulrike Ottinger from a script she co-wrote with Elfriede Jelinek (The Piano Teacher).

Birgit Minichmayr (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer), Thomas Schubert (The Dark Valley), Lars Eidinger (Personal Shopper), and André Jung (The Experiment) co-star.

It was the website Berkeleyside that originally reported the story that sent us all into a tizzy, but it seems we weren’t being told the full story. Tippett Studio closed out the weekend with an official statement to make one thing perfectly clear: this is NOT the end of the company.

While it’s true that Phil Tippett’s longtime Berkeley facility is indeed being shut down, the full statement makes it clear that Tippett Studio will continue to operate beyond that point.

The statement explains, “We have recently decided to evolve our physical footprint and production approach, and to exit our longtime Berkeley facility. As we make this transition, Tippett Studio continues its visual effects and animation work across film, television and entertainment. Our operations in Canada also continue, including our Toronto studio, which is currently in active production on a large feature film.”

“Stop-motion remains an important part of our creative capabilities, but maintaining a large permanent physical footprint is no longer necessary for our current requirements,” the statement continues. “When projects require dedicated stages, fabrication, motion-control photography or other specialised physical infrastructure, we will work with appropriate external facilities to meet the needs of each production.”

“As we move forward, we remain focused on the work ahead, continuing to collaborate with our clients, creative partners and artists on current and upcoming productions.”

Phil Tippett is the visionary behind some of cinema’s most iconic characters such as Jabba the Hutt and the Rancor Monster in Return of the Jedi, the Tauntauns and Wampa in The Empire Strikes Back, the Raptor and T-Rex stop motion puppets in Jurassic Park, and the ED-209 from RoboCop.

He won an Oscar in 1994 for his work on the original Jurassic Park.

The indie horror movie debuted in the #6 spot on the domestic box office charts against some real heavy hitters, scaring up $5,363,827 across the weekend in just 1,258 theaters.

That gives Buddy the highest opening this year for any movie showing on under 1,800 screens, as well as the highest opening weekend since the pandemic for Roadside Attractions.

This is also the second highest opening in Roadside’s entire 23-year history, and Buddy now impressively holds the all-time highest opening in the 12-year history of Saban Films.

What’s the secret behind the film’s success? A strong hook and an equally strong marketing campaign that flooded social media with attention-grabbing content including an ARG campaign that played out across YouTube along with a retro-style Game Boy video game. But it’s the film’s nostalgic concept that no doubt put asses in the seats, with Buddy being presented as something of a horror twist on Barney the purple dinosaur. And the reviews certainly don’t hurt the cause.

Buddy is currently certified fresh at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The press release notes, “Young Gen Z audiences are craving original content, escapism and a communal experience – a social environment away from home. Exit polls show that the film is drawing a young audience, 83 percent under 35. It also over-indexes with Hispanic audiences at 37 percent.”

“We loved Buddy the moment we saw the film at Sundance,” said Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff of Roadside Attractions, and Jonathan Saba and Shanan Becker of Saban Films, in a joint statement. “We were blown away by the wildly imaginative worlds director Casper Kelly created with practical effects, and audiences are clearly responding to its authenticity and its gonzo – WTF – horror-comedy-thriller combination.”

Buddy centers on the titular unicorn mascot — a beloved children’s TV host with a squeaky-clean persona that belies his true nature as a dark and violent force of nature.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Inside the colorful world of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.”

Cristin Milioti stars as Grace, a suburban mother inadvertently drawn into Buddy’s nightmare world, with Delaney Quinn as Freddy, a brave girl who begins to fight back against Buddy when he shows his true self. Keegan-Michael Key voices Buddy. The horror movie’s cast also includes Topher Grace, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt.

Casper Kelly co-wrote the movie with Jamie King (“Jessica Jones”).

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Casper Kelly drops viewers straight into the world of a kids’ show with a high-concept horror comedy that dials up the absurdities of kids’ television programming to a lethal degree. Those on board with an experimental structure and Kelly’s darkly playful sense of humor will find this raucous midnighter highly entertaining.”

Part of the cinematic universe known as the “Poohniverse,” Pinocchio Unstrung puts a horror movie spin on the classic tale, and the film is now available on Digital at home.

The chilling reimagining of the familiar fable unfolds inside an elite London prep school. Created by Geppetto and influenced by a sinister Cricket, Pinocchio launches a violent crusade to carve himself into a real boy like his brother, one piece at a time…

Richard Brake (Barbarian) stars in Pinocchio Unstrung as the obsessive Geppetto, with horror icon Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street) as the voice of Cricket.

Pinocchio is voiced by Jude Evan Lloyd and brought to life via a practical animatronic created by Todd Masters (“Tales from the Crypt,” Slither). Cameron Bell, Jessica Balmer, Jack Art Gray, and Peter De Souza-Feighoney round out the horror movie’s cast.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield (Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey) writes and directs the British slasher, in addition to producing alongside Scott Jeffrey via their Jagged Edge Productions.

In shark attack horror movie Above & Below, “Friends embark on a dream vacation of parties and diving, but their trip takes a terrifying turn when criminals attack them at sea.”

This one looks like every other shark movie that’s been released in the last several years, but it’s armed with something that puts it a fin above the competition. Oscar nominated actor Antonio Banderas stars in Above & Below, with the cast also including Christina Ochoa, Laura Marano, Timothy V. Murphy, Louis Mandylor, Jess Liaudin, Ryan Bertroche, Ramiro Alonso, Diego Llinás, Rodrigo Poisón, Mario Tardón, and Donncha Tynan.

Anthony Steven Giordano wrote the screenplay.

German indie horror movie The Behemoth hit Digital this past Tuesday.

In the film from director Kai E. Bogatzki, “What begins as a quiet holiday in a snow-covered mountain village quickly descends into terror when a young couple crosses paths with a blood thirsty religious cult.

“As disappearances mount and the atmosphere grows increasingly oppressive, the couple realizes they are no longer observers–but targets–caught at the center of a horrific ritual that will unleash something far worse than death.”

Director Shawn C. Phillips is back with sequel Desert Fiends 2, now available on Digital.

The horror-comedy sequel stars Eric Roberts, Vanessa Angel, Robert Carradine, Martin Klebba, Ginger Lynn Allen, Robert Lasardo, James Debello, Douglas Tait, Kansas Bowling, Brett Wagner, Kato Kaelin, Mark Torgl, Carl Solomon, Jack Berner, and Michael B Moynahan.

The first Desert Fiends, also directed by Shawn C. Phillips, was released in 2024.

Director Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks, V/H/S/Halloween) is back with fresh nightmare fuel, with his latest feature film Buddy now playing in theaters nationwide from Saban Films.

Buddy centers on the titular unicorn mascot — a beloved children’s TV host with a squeaky-clean persona that belies his true nature as a dark and violent force of nature.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Inside the colorful world of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.”

Cristin Milioti stars as Grace, a suburban mother inadvertently drawn into Buddy’s nightmare world, with Delaney Quinn as Freddy, a brave girl who begins to fight back against Buddy when he shows his true self. Keegan-Michael Key voices Buddy. The horror movie’s cast also includes Topher Grace, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt.

Casper Kelly co-wrote the movie with Jamie King (“Jessica Jones”).

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Casper Kelly drops viewers straight into the world of a kids’ show with a high-concept horror comedy that dials up the absurdities of kids’ television programming to a lethal degree. Those on board with an experimental structure and Kelly’s darkly playful sense of humor will find this raucous midnighter highly entertaining.”

South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan) is back with new outbreak nightmare Colony, and the film is now playing in U.S. theaters from Well Go USA Entertainment.

The South Korean horror movie follows Professor Se-jeong as she is thrust into a terrifying hellscape when a mutating virus is unleashed during a biotech conference, forcing authorities to seal the facility to contain the outbreak. Se-jeong and a group of survivors must fight to stay alive as the infected undergo horrific transformations and threaten to spread the virus.

Colony marks Gianna Jun’s (Blood: The Last Vampire) first feature film since 2015’s Assassination. She stars alongside Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula, Escape from Mogadishu). 

Ji Chang-wook (“Healer”) and Shin Hyun-been (“Hospital Playlist”) also star.

The viral outbreak horror movie is rated ‘R’ for “bloody violent content and some language.”

Colony is presented by Showbox and produced by Wowpoint and Smilegate. 

Serial killer thriller The Whisper Man is now streaming only on Netflix.

Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan, and Robert De Niro star in The Whisper Man. The Netflix Original feature film is based on Alex North‘s 2019 novel of the same name.

In the film, “When his eight-year-old son is abducted, a widowed crime writer looks to his estranged father, a retired former police detective, for help, only to discover a connection with the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as The Whisper Man.”

The stacked cast also includes Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague, Will Brill, and Acston Luca Porto.

James Ashcroft (The Rule of Jenny Pen) directs Netflix’s new horror movie The Whisper Man from a script by Ben Jacoby (The First Omen) and Chase Palmer (IT).

Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting produce the thriller for AGBO (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Extraction).

NEON ends the Summer with their existential road trip horror movie It Ends, which opened in NY & LA theaters last weekend. The film’s theatrical release has now expanded nationwide.

In the Ozploitation tradition, the Australian movie Penny Lane Is Dead is a blood-soaked, ’80s-set horror thriller, and it’s now streaming exclusively on Shudder beginning today.

Set on a hot summer’s night in 1986 Australia, 17-year old Penny Lane is celebrating getting into college with her longtime girlfriends. After Penny’s jealous and troubled cousin decides a cruel prank is in order, what begins as a thoughtless spiked cupcake game spirals into a night of bloodshed and revenge.

Sophia Wright-Mendelsohn, Tahlee Fereday, Alexandra Jensen (Talk to Me), Bailey Spalding, Steve Le Marquand (Vertical Limit), Fletcher Humphrys (“Wolf Creek”), and Ben O’Toole (Hacksaw Ridge) star in Penny Lane Is Dead.

Writer-director Mia’Kate Russell makes her feature debut on the project.

The film is the first outing from Sanctuary Pictures, the production arm of Umbrella Entertainment, who produces alongside Buffalo Media and in association with Cyan Films.

Paramount Primal has acquired the rights to the 2014 novel, with Chris Basler writing the script.

The Troop follows a troop of boys who, while on their annual scout camping trip, encounter an intruder who unleashes something far more terrifying than any campfire ghost story.

As fear spreads, a brutal struggle for survival begins, turning the boys against the infected… and each other.

Lyrical Media (Onslaught) will produce the upcoming film adaptation.

Nick Cutter had told Bloody Disgusting back in May, “It is in the hands right now of a company called Lyrical, who is excellent, and they’ve got a script that they like.”

“That has been through so many iterations over the past decade or so,” he explained. “Different people have taken stabs at it. I remain hopeful that at some point it will see the light of day.”

Myles McEwen said in a statement, “We poured our hearts and souls into this one. We followed a standard storytelling model and chose to explore a depression that many of us can relate to. Through this, there’s a genuine heartbeat and soul that emerged from the film. We shot and designed the film to feel straight out of 1989, capturing the magic of cinema from that era.”

Dark Shadows: Volume 1 takes a bite out of Blu-ray on September 15, 2026.

Dark Sky previews that the upcoming Blu-ray “contains 40 restored episodes in high definition for the first time plus special introductory featurette and exclusive interviews with cast members.”

With its alluring tales of Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, Dark Shadows became one of the most popular daytime series of all time, first airing on ABC-TV. The character of Barnabas Collins, a guilt-ridden, 175 year-old vampire brought the show tremendous success.

Released from his chained coffin after nearly two centuries, Barnabas arrives at the Collinwood estate claiming to be a cousin from England. Although noticing Barnabas’ resemblance to his “ancestor” in the foyer portrait, the Collins family does not realize he is the same Barnabas who lived at Collinwood in the late 1700s. As Barnabas settles into the Old House on the property, those around him are unaware of the horrors that will soon follow.

This project was originally announced under the title My Wife and I Bought a Ranch in 2020, based on the viral horror story by Matt & Harrison Query that first appeared on Reddit.

The story for Seasons follows Harry and Sasha, who think they’ve found their dream house in a ranch in Idaho. He’s a Marine getting back to life, so they bid what they can. Their lowball offer wins them the ranch, but they find they are not alone.

The land is alive with ancient spirits. For the couple, survival will mean submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season.

Variety notes in today’s report that Prime Video’s “Crouch End” is being adapted by Paul Tomalin (“Bodies”) and directed by Tom Shankland (“Berlin Noir,” “The Serpent”).

“Stephen King is one of the defining storytellers of our time, and we’re thrilled to bring his Lovecraftian tale to life in London with Crouch End,” said Nicole Clemens, VP of International Originals at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “Paul Tomalin brings a singular, character-driven vision to the series and, paired with Tom Shankland at the helm, plus the first-class production teams at Mammoth Screen and Fifth Season, this show will grip audiences worldwide with its visceral crime thriller and supernatural mystery.”

This won’t be the first time Stephen King’s “Crouch End” has been adapted for the screen. Back in 2006, it was adapted for the small screen for the series Nightmares & Dreamscapes.

The late Tim Curry narrated the audio book version of King’s terror tale.

Bloody Disgusting’s Jenn Adams recently selected “Crouch End” as one of the 13 Stephen King short stories every fan should read. She wrote, “King ventures into Lovecraftian Lore with Crouch End, a deeply unsettling story of an American couple on a doomed trip to London. Having lost their way, they wander down the wrong street and possibly into another dimension filled with hideous monsters and sinister approximations of city life. Set in a real district of London, the story was inspired by King’s trip to the UK to visit collaborator and friend Peter Straub. King resists the urge to fully reveal Crouch End’s mysteries, creating another haunting example of less-is-more horror.”

The upcoming horror movie is set in the early 1980s.

Scissor Mouth follows a teenage girl who escapes years of captivity at the hands of her beauty-obsessed mother, leaving a bloody trail of “makeovers” across rural West Texas.

Deborah Richards writes and directs Scissor Mouth, “a contemporary Southern Gothic inspired by an ancient Japanese folktale, using horror to explore society’s obsession with beauty.”

And the partnership is proving to be a massive success, with Deadline reporting this week that Blumhouse Atomic Monster releases have passed $1 billion at the box office this year alone.

Deadline additionally notes, “… it’s the second time that the combined labels have yielded $1 billion since their 2024 merger after last year. However, if you were to count the labels’ grosses combined prior to the merger, this would be the third time in four years that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster titles have grossed over $1B in a given year.”

Over half of that billion dollars this year was scared up by Curry Barker’s Obsession, which also just became the first original movie of the 2020s to pass $500 million at the global box office.

On that note, Deadline makes an interesting observation: “Off its production cost, Obsession has returned more than 650 times its budget, and it is the lowest-budgeted horror film to top the North American box office since Paranormal Activity in 2009, the film that launched Blumhouse.”

Variety details in their exclusive report, “the approximately 800-page book will take place in 1988, in the immediate aftermath of the original film, which famously ended with the death of Jake Gyllenhaal’s titular Donnie Darko, a Southern California teen who spends the better part of the movie in a dreamlike state while anticipating the end of the world.”

Even more exciting here is that Richard Kelly is planning to use the upcoming sequel novel as the springboard to bring Donnie Darko back to the screen with future film projects.

“According to Kelly, the book sequel is the first step in a larger plan to make multiple Donnie Darko film sequels,” Variety details. “The filmmaker’s goal is to have this novel adapted into an animated/motion-capture movie and then continue the story with a live-action project that jumps 28 years into the future.”

Donnie Darko: The Philosophy of Time Travel takes place in the 14 months after Donnie Darko’s death, while a potential movie sequel to come in its wake would take that huge leap forward in time and bring the main cast of the 2001 movie back together on screen.

“My caveat with doing a real sequel was that I want to reunite the original cast, and I want to take it onto a gigantic scale and that takes time and it has a price tag and it’s hard to pull this off because it’s multiple movies,” Kelly tells the outlet. “It’s this big, gigantic, unwieldy thing that I have to sort of wrestle into submission. But in my mind, that’s what it should be. Just given the way this movie has connected with people for so long. So I’ve set out to just build the whole thing out and map the entire thing out, knowing that there’s a lot of challenges associated with doing that.”

Kelly continues, “I think what I realized as the story got bigger and bigger and bigger is that I needed to go back in time and away from the sequel, and tell the story of what happens in the 14 months after Donnie’s death, like immediately after his death, because there’s so much essential information in that section of the sequel. And in my mind, I was like, why don’t I actually put together a novel and just publish that part of the sequel as a novel, so that I can release it into the world, and that will set the ship on its voyage to wherever this goes. And so this, in my mind, is the final puzzle piece to launching this sequel and to see what becomes of it.”

Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko did get a movie sequel back in 2009 with S. Darko, though that much-maligned movie was famously made without the involvement of creator Richard Kelly.

Food Beast has revealed this afternoon that Pabst Blue Ribbon has joined forces with the Jason Universe for a limited edition 12-pack of PBR beer emblazoned with Jason’s iconic mask.

The outlet details, “Pabst Blue Ribbon is teaming up with Horror Inc. for a limited-edition Jason Voorhees collaboration that turns its 12-pack packaging into a wearable version of the slasher icon’s hockey mask. You can cut the mask out of the box or, apparently, throw the whole damn 12-pack over your head and be IG photo dump ready.”

“Along with the wearable packaging,” Food Beast continues, “fans can expect a collection of Jason-themed apparel, glassware, koozies, tap handles, tackers, and bobbleheads.”

The campaign rolls out in stores in September and will run through November 13, with Food Beast noting that some stores will get standees, and some bars will even get Jason tap handles.

Last Chance Motel follows a newlywed couple whose dream wedding spirals into a bloody nightmare when they uncover that their secluded venue, a desolate motel deep in the Nevada desert, is run by a relentless bloodthirsty family with dark secrets.

Described as a pulse-pounding psychological thriller with horror elements, the film pays homage to classic slashers while injecting a modern psychological twist.

Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night), Zachary Roozen (Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence), Robert Allen Mukes (House of 1000 Corpses), Shane West (“Salem”), and Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason) also star.
