Hey, J, I’ve seen your posts over on IMDB about Slasher. I’m enjoying it, too. Not sure why this site isn’t talking about it anymore.

Haha, I was definitely not horrified. If my comments in any way seem insulting I apologize. That wasn’t my intention. After seeing this movie when I was younger (and disliking it) I went to watch it again when I was older and while I didn’t remember much of what happened in it I did remember the ending and thus there was no tension or dread for me because I knew there was no true danger. Maybe saying it ceased to be a horror movie after the ending was a little too strong (especially considering there are movies that I think qualify as horror that others don’t). Again, I wasn’t trying to be a dick towards this movie or any of you guys who like it. I don’t even think it’s a bad movie, just one that doesn’t really work for me. But I’d watch it on repeat the rest of my life over its remake, which is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. By the way I dig your profile pic, :D!

How can you say it’s not a horror movie? Were you not….horrified? I’m being snarky, but just because nobody died, how does that take away from all the dread and tension?

It was Muffy getting a taste of her own medicine, but also showing that her friends also had things she didn’t know about them, and to be careful – all joking aside, she really did use their personal secrets, so Nan might have thought she had a scare of her own coming.

The remake is abysmal. I won’t tell you not to watch it because I think everyone should form their own opinion about a movie but to me it’s fucking awful. But if you end up watching it come back here and tell me what you thought about it.

The remake went that route but it hardly matters when the movie is as fucking awful as that one is. Definitely up there with Prom Night and A Nightmare On Elm Street when it comes to bad remakes.

I see what you’re saying. That’s why I thought it was a good example, because so many feel the way that you do about it. For me I accept it as a psychotic young woman telling an incorrect version of the events that happened. What messes it up is the severed head blow job scene (which is cool but makes no sense) and that at the end when all is revealed they mixed the truth and Marie’s story together, which makes it way more confusing than it should have been. Originally, Marie was supposed to finish her story (ending with her killing the killer with the barb wire bat) and then the cops or doctors bring in a tv and show her the tape where she killed the gas station attendant, then we’d flashback and see that she killed everyone. The way it ended up in the movie definitely makes it confusing and I understand why people hate it. My beef with April Fool’s day is that with its ending it’s no longer a horror movie at all. That’s just my feeling on it, I don’t want to be perceived as though I’m trying to trash anyone who likes the movie and its ending, I was just putting my thoughts out there.

It’s awful. Doesn’t follow the plot of the original and looks like a Lifetime film. Like the Prom Night remake but worse.

No slashing, no real gore, no real killer and no T & A. It breaks all the rules yet is still probably in my top 10 favorite slashers list. Great flick

Has anyone seen the remake? I don;t expect it to be all that good but if it’s not terrible I might give it a watch but I’ve heard surprisingly little about it.

The original ending DID have Muffy’s brother kill her, but I’m not sure why they chose not to use it.

Interesting you compare it to High Tension. To me, High Tension IS a cheat: a twist ending that makes absolutely no sense when held up agains the rest of the picture. The explanation for the twist in April Fool’s Day makes perfect sense (and it’s creative to boot), which is why it doesn’t bother me at all.

Agreed. Have someone off them all at the end to make up for the lack of genuine slashing in the rest of it. If it had ended that way I’d probably love the movie.

Oh okay gotcha, yea never got to see the original. I remember as a kid I used to see the VHS at blockbuster all the time but it never intrigued me. I might have to catch it this weekend and see if I’m missing out I see a lot of people here like it.

My opinion on that is based on the fact that I never really hear it brought up in horror discussions, which is part of the reason I never sought it out. Also, there are hardly any legitimate online articles written about it. That’s where I was coming from.

Great movie

I saw this for the first time this winter. But I kinda knew the twist from reading stuff here. You must have known the twist as well, right?

That version does “suck ass.” Like, it’s REALLY bad. And I have the word “slasher” in quotation marks to answer your question. It’s sort of a fake slasher.

LOVE this movie, always have. When I was 13 I read– and still own– the novelization with the ‘Skip goes bugfuck nuts’ ending. Can watch the movie once a week and never tire of it. Nikki is the hottest 80s girl ever. And she fucks on the first date.
