GDT has been coasting and uninspiring for years now. And Dreamworks Animation still hasn’t done anything nearly as good as Shrek in the two decades since. I’ll give it a try, but I just don’t see anything that would suggest this will approach the greatness of things like South Park, Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, or Adventure Time at its zenith. The animation game is really strong these days, and this just doesn’t stand out at first blush. Tired jokes and plot beats (the sword being stuck in multiple stones, the incompetent at first hero) blocky, soulless CGI. Besides the voice cast, I’m just not excited.

I have high hopes for this. I would have liked to see it in hand drawn animation, but the CGI doesn’t look god awful. Del Toro will always be huge draw for me and I have immense respect for the fact that they decided to keep Yelchin’s performance and not re-record it.

Not much into the whole CGI thing but i gave TMNT 2012 a chance and so would this one. Aside of hearing Anton Yelchin’s last perfomance it’s nice to hear the voice of Kelsey Grammer and Ron Perlman.
