I appreciate your points, but consider this before you bury the man: fan pressure on the film development company. We all heard about all the early fanboy outcry over story details for Covenant. As I heard, Scott faced a lot of pushback from the parent company over appeasing them, so the script was rewritten. I disliked several things about it, especially focusing on David. They essentially abandoned the film Prometheus set up, which was horrible, because I was excited for two years while they made it. And Shaw was already dead, so we got some half ass new direction that was in no way as intriguing as what we were promised. So, I guess we agree on some things, we just don’t agree on who’s at fault.

That’s a different situation altogether. General security forces, taking here the only example you gave – the police force – is, as everything else with the government, acting based on numbers. When most violent crimes happens in black communities, the police force will adjust to respond acoordingly – that being most of the time responding with deadly force against blacks. The same with, say, muslims in immigration, since they are the ones causing the majority of the terror attacks. There is no other way around it. It’s not about race or ethinicity, it’s about the numbers.

The man created an Alien movie as if he didn’t have a clue about the films time line or its lore. It was a shambles, and for covenant as far as I’m concerned he was a hack. This is why you can’t just rely on someone to do a good job just because the did a good job in the past. The man needs to never touch the alien franchise ever again. The only saving grace is that it was mildly and I mean by a grain of salt amount, better than alien resurrection.

It’s not insane, at all, actually. The concept of white privilege certainly intersects with social class, but they’re not the same thing. The most striking example of white privilege I can think of, in America at least, is the fact that a black man can be shot and killed while reaching for the license for the gun he legally owned, but white, right wing militia members can point military-grade weapons at cops and feds and nothing happens to them. There’s an element of politics in there too as well, I suppose, as I doubt any of the various commie militias that have cropped up recently would get away with that shit.

But maybe the audience for comicbooks and star wars was never really the same one that Alien had. Star wars wasn’t a stupid movie, but it was a comic book fantasy. Alien had comicbook roots through O’Bannon, but from the EC kinds of comics not Flash Gordon serials.

Maybe what those hollywood scumbags got wrong was trying to use the same methods and hacks that they’ve used to make low denominator superhero movies and star wars knockoffs to try and imitate the appeal that Alien had through thoughtful and artistic dialogue, plotting and suspense.

And I dont know if Ridley just doesn’t know what he’s doing anymore, I suspect that he doesn’t since he hasn’t really made any good movies since bladerunner, his first 3 movies were his high water mark. But these last two movies are VERY OBVIOUSLY designed by producer committee with ridley just being a name brand shlub for hire doing what they tell him to do. A committee of producers who will continue to over meddle in a property that is viewed as a franchise by their own insufferable and unwavering nature.

Theres just no culture in hollywood that any kind of decent Alien sequel/prequel/remake/reimagining/versus/whatever can ever be made. Yeah there were some people who liked these prometheus movies, but they were never going to get any better then the last two.
