‘Friday the 13th’ Actors Get Knocked Off in Meta Horror Film ’13 Fanboy,’ Directed by ‘New Beginning’ Star

Back in 1985, Deborah Voorhees (yes, that’s her real name) played the role of Tina in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, and Voorhees is now taking it upon herself to return to the world of Friday the 13th (…sort of…) with the film 13 Fanboy, which she plans on directing. Essentially, it’s a meta slasher, centered on stars of the Friday franchise being killed off by a fan.

In 13 Fanboy, now being funded through Indiegogo…

“A deranged Friday the 13th fan stalks the women from the famous franchise.”

Now here’s where things get pretty cool. Voorhees has indeed brought actual stars from the Friday films on board the project, to date including C.J. Graham from Jason Lives; Thom Mathews from Jason Lives; Judie Aronson from The Final Chapter; Tracie Savage from Friday the 13th Part III; and Ron Sloan from A New Beginning.

The team explains, “Our horror thriller brings your favorite Friday the 13th actors back to the big screen in an entirely new horror series about a fan, who takes his love for the series too far and targets the real-life women from the franchise to kill them like they were killed in the Friday films or to “improve” their deaths. 13 Fanboy melds the slasher-style kills that Friday is famous for and the heart-pounding thrillers such as Hush and Cape Fear. We will be using all practical effects, NO CGI to honor the 80s slashers.”

If you’re interested in helping 13 Fanboy reach its $50,000 goal by the end of November, you can check out the project’s Indiegogo campaign to learn more and pitch in your dollars.

If you want to watch a fun movie, watch a Ryuhei Kitamura movie. Whether it’s 2000’s Versus, 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars, 2008’s The Midnight Meat Train or 2022’s underseen The Price We Pay, Kitamura always knows how to deliver a wild and crazy good time.

Up next from Ryuhei Kitamura? Deadline reports that he’ll be directing Thrill Ride, which sounds a bit like the best parts of Final Destination 3… expanded into a feature film!

Deadline details, “the English-language film will tell the story of a group of people, including two young women, who are trapped upside down on a roller coaster taken over by a mysterious saboteur threatening to drop them all one-by-one to their deaths.”

Film Bridge International is launching the project for sales ahead of the Cannes market.

Chad Law and Christopher Jolley wrote the screenplay.

Thrill Ride is exactly the type of high-concept based thriller that our customers are looking for in the marketplace,” said Film Bridge’s Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra. “With Ryuhei at the helm, we know his vision and execution will deliver thrills of the highest quality.”

“As a hardcore rollercoaster fan since I was young, I immediately fell in love with this script filled with suspense, action, crazy ups and downs, turns, loops, and corkscrews at maximum speed,” adds Kitamura. “I can’t wait to get on a ride and bring life to the wildest rollercoaster imaginable.”
