Chucky Cosplayers Filled an Advance Screening of Orion’s ‘Child’s Play’ and We Were There!

Are we having fun now? Leading up to the release of Orion Pictures’ Child’s Play re-imagining (our review), the production company held a “Chucky Only” advance screening of the film on Wednesday, which brought out tons of Chucky superfans (myself and Bloody Disgusting’s own Meagan Navarro included) to check it out. It was…..an experience.

The screening took place at the South Lamar Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas, which is known for its fun and elaborate screenings (see this year’s “Pregnant Moms” screening of The Prodigy for an example). Prior to the screening, the cosplayers proceeded to freak out theatergoers who were not there to watch Child’s Play, giving everyone quite a scare. A fun night at the movies turned sinister for the theater-goers who opted to go to the movies on a random Wednesday night.

Attendees wore striped shirts and nu Chucky’s signature “Buddi” overalls. Those who opted out of the hair and makeup (done with expertise by Hilary Whitworth) were given some seriously creepy Chucky masks to go with their striped shirt and overalls. Try not to get too creeped out by the empty dead eyes of those masks, which are the stuff of nightmares.

At this screening, we were all friends to the end.

In Klevberg’s modern take on the horror classic, a mother (Aubrey Plaza) gives her son (Gabriel Bateman, Lights Out) a Buddi doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Orion Pictures will release Child’s Play in theaters nationwide on June 21, 2019.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
