Director Neil Marshall makes his way back into the horror genre this weekend with brand new movie The Reckoning, and Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast had a chance to sit down with Marshall and star Charlotte Kirk to discuss the movie and various other projects this week. Of course, they couldn’t help but ask about both Dog Soldiers and The Descent.

Specifically, how likely is it that Marshall will someday return to those worlds? Well, the short answer is that Dog Soldiers 2 is very much on the table. Another Descent film? Not so much.

“[Those books] are definitely not closed,” Marshall explains. “I could revisit [the world of The Descent] but with that one it was kind of intended to be a one-off. And then the sequel got made anyway. Dog Soldiers was always intended to be trilogy. So, the rights for that have been tied up for quite some time, but now there’s the possibility of a Dog Soldiers 2, finally.”

“The initial rumblings are happening,” Marshall adds, talking about Dog Soldiers 2. “So that’s looking semi-likely, we’ll see. The Descent… I can’t see me revisiting that world.”

Dog Soldiers pit soldiers up against werewolves in the Scotland wilderness, and a trilogy of films was indeed the original plan. In fact, it had been announced back in 2004 that Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat was in the works. Of course, that never ended up coming to fruition.

Sleepy Hollow movie

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.

THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”

You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
