Netflix’s ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2’? Rumors Have Begun to Swirl….

It’s been four months since Netflix premiered Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a brand new “legacy sequel” to Tobe Hooper’s original horror classic that arrived on February 18th. We haven’t heard a peep about the franchise’s future since then, but as of this week rumors have started to swirl that Netflix might be looking to continue the storyline with a couple sequels.

Yes, the rumor is that Netflix is looking to order up not just one but possibly even two Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels, a rumor that Bloody Disgusting has not been able to confirm. We have heard, however, that Netflix has very much discussed the *possibility* of potential sequels to their Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, all dependent on the film’s performance.

We checked with our sources and can confirm Netflix had most definitely discussed plans for sequels ahead of the release, performance pending. In other words, Netflix would gladly bring Leatherface back for more if enough people streamed Texas Chainsaw Massacre this year. Which begs the question: was the film’s performance strong enough to warrant more?

Here’s what we know. In its debut weekend, Texas Chainsaw Massacre came in the #2 spot on Netflix’s global charts for that week, viewed by subscribers for 29,180,000 hours in those first few days. In its second week of being available on Netflix, the legacy sequel was the #3 most-watched movie on the streaming service, suggesting it was definitely a hit for Netflix.

Netflix has only provided numbers on the film for those first two weeks, so the trail goes cold from there. But we do know that Texas Chainsaw Massacre director David Blue Garcia is very much interested in picking up the chainsaw again, revealing in an interview back in February that he’s already got “some really cool ideas” for where the franchise could go next.

In the post-credits teaser scene for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, we saw Leatherface return to the infamous house from Tobe Hooper’s original classic, the place where the nightmare began. A battered and bloodied Leatherface stumbles down a dirt path carrying his trusty chainsaw, the filmmakers revealing his old family home as the monster’s new destination…

No word on whether or not producer Fede Alvarez would remain involved for any subsequent Texas Chainsaw Massacre films from Legendary & Netflix, but we’ll report more as we learn it.

If you haven’t yet seen A24 and Saint Maud director Rose Glass’ new movie Love Lies Bleeding, you should definitely get out there and support it in theaters while you can. The critically acclaimed romantic thriller is one of this year’s best movies so far, driven by incredible lead performances from Katy O’Brian and the always compelling Kristen Stewart.

Katy O’Brian just landed a huge role in Mission Impossible 8, but what’s next for Kristen Stewart? Well, for starters, don’t expect to see her in any Marvel movies anytime soon.

Stewart tells the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast, “I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually.” She further explains, “You would have to put so much money and so much trust into one person … and it doesn’t happen.”

And so therefore what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it. So likely not,” Kristen Stewart continues in her chat with the podcast. “But maybe the world changes, that’s what I’m saying.” She notes, however, “if Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it.”

So what DOES Kristen Stewart want to do next? Chatting with Variety on the red carpet just a couple months back, she indicated that she’s far more interested in horror than Marvel!

I’d like to make a good scary movie,” Stewart answered when asked what she’d like to do next. “Like something a little more psychological. Yeah, a really good horror movie.”

Kristen Stewart is of course no stranger to the horror/thriller genres, getting her start as a child actor in David Fincher’s Panic Room. From there, she starred in 2007 horror movie The Messengers, as well as the Twilight movies, ghost story Personal Shopper, and 2018’s Lizzie. And don’t forget 2020’s Underwater or David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future.

The ball is in your court, filmmakers. Let’s make it happen.
