This year marks the 10th anniversary of Guillermo del Toro’s kaiju movie Pacific Rim, and in a new tweet over the weekend the Oscar-winner has teased a theatrical re-release.

Del Toro tweets just a few months shy of the film’s 10th birthday, “As promised, we are in talks with @Legendary to re-release Pacific Rim in 3-D IMAX for one weekend in Los Angeles in its anniversary!! Stay Tuned- its a great experience!!”

Pacific Rim was originally released in theaters here in the United States on July 12, 2013 in 3D and IMAX 3D, stomping its way to $411 million at the worldwide box office.

In the film, “As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.”

Del Toro’s movie spawned feature film sequel Pacific Rim Uprising in 2018, and the world was also expanded upon with an animated series from Netflix titled “Pacific Rim: The Black.”

Stay tuned for more on the theatrical re-release here in 2023.
