Uni Makes ‘R.I.P.D.’ A Summer Movie, Jodie Foster Getting Bossy?
Universal Pictures is finally gearing up to get their live-action adaptation of R.I.P.D. into production. The studio has locked in a June 28, 2013 release, meaning they expect this to be a big summer movie.
It’s a start with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges starring, and Bloody learned EXCLUSIVELY that the studio is highly interested in landing Jodie Foster as “Proctor”. Given that she’s already committed to District 9 director Neill Blomkam’s Elysium, it’ll be interesting to see if she ends up playing with the undead.
Robert Schwentke is directing R.I.P.D. for Uni — “Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department–the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat. . . reporting to one boss.” Yep–THAT boss. Nick Cruz died an untimely death, at the height of his personal and professional life. Why did he join the R.I.P.D.? Well, not knowing the identity of his killer has left his soul a bit. . . restless. Now he hunts some of the most fiendish creatures, hoping for the chance to find out who set him up so he can get into heaven.”
Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.
Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.
The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).
Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.
Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
