Well, seeing as many sites and magazines have reported on the subject, and the fact that not only have Harrison Ford, Carrie Fischer, and Mark Hamill been casted, J.J. Abrams has stated that they have a pretty big part in the film….so, I would assume by what I’ve been reading, their going to have pretty big parts in episode 7. and Yes Transformers 3 is a very high grossing film as well. Its still a garbage film. But, then again the international sales of a film have become a much bigger part of hollywood, and the film market since the release of the last Alien film.

Well my best mate at the time was freaked out by HR Gigers line drawings and stuff in his Necromicon Book I think…He took it back at arms length with a bible on top….Sadly he is no longer with us he passed away in 2002…

Ugh. I don’t like the AVP movies and don’t even consider them part of the Alien canon. Too early in time and the xenomorphs do not pose the same kind of threat at all.

I would have liked to have been there for that debate, though. I could go on about this stuff all day.

I’m an Alien trilogy fan and didn’t feel “royally fucked” by anything except for the AVP movies and Alien Resurrection, which was actually kinda fun, to be honest.

But yeah, I’ve watched the Quadrilogy extras multiple times and still watch it these days. One of the writers for Alien 3 was going to set the movie on a wooden planet with monks. Good thing that didn’t happen, right? Problem is Aliens did happen and it was inspired by the Vietnam War, so there’s going to be some climactic confrontation there, which in itself is a cliche. How many movies have ended with some boogie man fight? Happens all the time. Meanwhile Alien 3 has basically no cliches whatsoever. It’s Ripley at the end of her rope trying to get a continuously traumatizing experience over with, which finally does end with death. That’s pretty heavy, if you think about it. She’d rather die with the queen alien in her arms than let the government have it. She even says in the second movie, “You don’t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.”

So, on that note, Alien 3 was written to be a swan song, which turned out well. What would you have come up with? I know I couldn’t do better with massive time constraints, fatigued actors, a half spent budget and executives scrambling to put out the movie. David Fincher did a great job, as he always does. I watched all 3 movies for the first time when I was 9, which was JUST after Alien 3 came out, and I think the stories line up perfectly. Same day as my first cup of coffee, too. Explains a lot, actually. 😉

That’s true. It’s hard to continue the series after Alien Resurrection. Maybe a recalibration isn’t out of the question for this series either

You have got it right! I kept on wondering with the doctor taking her blood and the “corporation” hovering in the background as Bishop “human”? The sexual thing couldn’t last for long as you know C Dance was too pretty to be there, and besides the Aliens wanted to keep her going as long as possible.

Like you said very appropriate move by Ripley, so the ideas in Four kind of bubbled over from Ash’s final scene from Alien 1 & 2 Paul Rieser’s cash cowl idea capture and keep the creature without humans present; the many reincarnations of her from her blood etc. Wayland Corps twisted ideas been going on in Prometheus with David and infestation of Boyfriend…too much recycling for my taste…..

1, 2 and 3 do stand out as masterpieces for their decades anything else is not in the same league really, but that’s MY Opinion, I spent nearly 36 hrs debating with a friend once about Alien & Aliens and Alien 3 many years ago……

So like I said before AvP was loud and annoying carrying Mayan myths too far….no interest except for the last shot of Combi Alien Predator perhaps, mostly taken from comics I believe…

Yes especially the “mysterious appearance of Mr Wayland and David being able to communicate with the Engineer who strikes them down for blasphemy lol – a bit of justice for all the people he killed to see his “dream” just like the millitary wishing to “train” Aliens in No 4…..Well yes the graphics were good, scientists? More like the Four Stooges, the ship’s captain the token multi racial member gets splatted – much better than Yaphet Kotto in the original – see if you can find the stills book for Alien and look closely at the high speed camera work that zips by for that scene and the poor woman was penetrated by the Alien’s tail in the book and I think her womb was hanging out, as the Alien had not encountered a woman before……

The two men were penetrated by the creatures in Prometheus although I thought it would have been by the back door not the mouth for effect…

Terrible script. None of those people were believable as scientists. More like a misguided soap opera full of fools. I blame Lindelof and Scott for not paying closer attention to how he was screwing it up. Other than that the CG was outstanding and it was shot incredibly.

The 3 script was rewritten like 5 times and fucked by FOX. There was originally a script for the battle to be on Earth. 3&4 imo don’t exist. There is even an issue with Camerons queen. It runs around like a T rex from Jurassic part and falls short of representing the Alien as a whole. It’s reduced to and ant hill. The original Alien was never that boring.

Movie ruined.

I guess that’s kind of what I’m wondering. What would “more” have been? When Ripley says, “you’ve been in my life so long, I can’t remember anything else,” I think that line summarizes where she’s mentally, emotionally and psychology at during that scene. Ripley’s just so fatigued and frustrated by her entire experience with xenomorphs that she just wants everything to end. Meanwhile, you got this population of warped yet religious criminals talking about the apocalypse. All this right before she commits suicide with the queen clutched against her. I think that’s pretty appropriate.

No I don’t hate it or wish to poop on it, I just think it’s a bit like Prometheus, ideas and characters cut off for a dramatic finale, when it could have been more…..

I keep on thinking Prometheus had a good few ideas but damn it, the whole thing was spoiled by the whiplash ending.

We could have had the squiddy thing come to earth, like Mad Magazine said way back in 1980….Or the boyfriend “newly engineered” could have bridged the gap between the two races and given us another spin…..

I don’t know why everyone shits on Alien 3. I think it was a great movie and it’s a good conclusion to the trilogy. First you got your suspenseful sci-fi horror with Alien, then it’s a cacophonous and violent action thriller with Aliens and lastly you have an apocalyptic and bleak third act of hopelessness with Alien 3. Not sure what the problem is. All the characters in Alien 3 were more fleshed out than anyone in the other 3 movies and the dynamic of sexual tension created a ton of unease in addition to the audience AND the cast not ever knowing where the alien was. Plus the element of Ripley being pregnant with a queen (which I’m sure must have been traumatizing since she’s like the only one she knows who’s even SEEN a queen alien). That’s perfect!

She is way to old, and the franchise has been destroyed by the let down that was Alien 3, and shitbag that was Alien 4.

I just don’t see how you can make a good story that I will remotely care about after creating a complete mess of the franchise with Alien 4.

The Alien franchise should be a lesson to all studios when it comes to major franchises. Don’t kill off your main star unless you really want to end the franchise. The reason that Alien 4 is so terrible is solely because they killed her off in the third film, and felt they couldn’t make a successful Alien movie without her, so had to use a horrible plot device to bring her back.

Sorry restart the franchise or don’t bother. You can’t repair the damage to the franchise that the fourth Alien film did to it. Unless you are going to do the new “go back in time to change the future” that so many franchises are doing now (looking at you X-Men and Terminator) to repair damaged franchises.

Kinda sad Dan O’ Bannon is not here today or else he would have come up with a good script,,,,,,,not to mention make another movie since Return of the Living Dead is my all time fav zombie movie.

Maybe so but we all know what guys like to see from Scarlett is some cleavage and ass shots from her.

If they make this movie… that means Alien 3 and Resurrection never happened.

I am no great fan of AvP or dare I say it Prometheus; even with the superb Mr R Scott’s direction I felt it was like some of the newer “superbriefs” franchises – telling you a story you’d already grown up with as a kid. The crushing of that brooding woman under the ship was great although I came to the conclusion that she would perhaps become an “Alien Queen with her attitude!

The great and subtle Miss Weaver should be in this new movie with Mr District 9 Blomkamp as his movie was just the sort of refreshing idea that I think Hollywood has slightly missed in the last few years; a screenplay that actually has been thought through agreed on, and followed through without too many ant counting donkeys and hedonistic black holes being probed in the name of artistry or egos!!

Sigourney Weaver was and is the finest queen of womanhood to grace our screens in the name of sci fi in the movies, only Scarlet Johannsen comes close in Under the Skin and Lucy; if I have spelled her name slightly incorrectly get over it – I apologise, anyhow Sigourney Weaver always gave the Aliens hell, no matter who was directing her and she always made you part of the action.

Watch her in Ghostbusters also and she sticks in your mind. Well, just a thought: what would Bill Murray do with her on that planet of Aliens if he was Dr Venkman?
Oh right, look what happened to Paul Rieser in Aliens….

Last thought: although I’m not sure what crap is going to be of the latest “reboot” of Ghostbusters, go figure…Dumb studios perhaps, hope they make a good move with this concept and idea, and hopefully Miss Weaver can slam some sense into the studio.
