The Best Cinco de Mayo Treat is This “El Gigante” Comic Adaptation!

One of my favorite short films in the past few years also comes from one of my favorite up-and-coming filmmakers. Gigi Saul Guerrero’s “El Gigante” (watch the trailer) is a Texas Chain Saw Massacre-esque cannibal slasher with a Luchador wrestler as the centerpiece. It made the festival rounds and is even being adapted into a feature film by Raven Banner (I can’t wait!).

As a special Cinco de Mayo treat, LuchaGore’s “El Gigante” was adapted into comic book form, and we have a taste for you right here. With its new graphic and bold colored take of Mexican Lucha Libre, the press release promises that “it will leave you breathless, bloodthirsty. A true revival of the film, only this time your imagination can run wilder and bloodier.”

Daiju Kurabayashi and Hiro Fujii came together with LuchaGore Productions to create a new brand of horror on paper. The artistic Japanese signature of Kurabyashi and Fujii mixed in with LuchaGore’s gritty Tex-Mex, is a perfect combo of nightmares that will leave you wanting more.

The comic is available in both Japanese and English for only $5 on LuchaGore’s official website. Gimmie.

“After attempting to cross the US/Mexico border in search of a better life, Armando awakens in an unknown room, his body broken down and a Lucha Libre mask sewn into his neck. He attempts to escape but is surrounded by a sadistic family, who watch him with hungry eyes. The only chance for Armando’s survival in this hellish nightmare is to last in a wrestling match against the most terrifying villain of all: GIGANTE!”
