Thanksgiving arrives next week, bringing with it the stressful chaos of the holidays and rewatches of holiday horror staples like Blood Rage and Thanksgiving. Despite the horror that the holidays can inspire, it’s a rather niche subgenre when it comes to Thanksgiving. If you’re already tired of the handful of classics or not feeling the holidays this year, this week’s streaming picks are dedicated to Thanksgiving-set horror movies that barely bother with the holidays at all. These titles take place on or around Thanksgiving, but quickly become too preoccupied with the terror to worry much about holiday tradition or theming.

Here’s where you can watch them this week.

For more Stay Home, Watch Horror picks, click here.

Black Friday – Prime Video, Roku Channel

A raucous, campy creature feature that begins on Thanksgiving and captures the horrors of shopping on Black Friday. Set within a toy store, it follows a group of disgruntled employees as they begrudgingly arrive for work on Thanksgiving to settle in for the busiest day in retail. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes into Earth via a meteor. The employees’ rough night gets exponentially worse when their shoppers become bloodthirsty monsters. Director Casey Tebo is most interested in fun with this holiday horror entry, and it boasts a great cast that includes Devon Sawa and Bruce Campbell.

The Boneyard – Pluto TV, Prime Video, Roku Channel, Tubi

The Boneyard creepy kid ghoul

With a very atypical protagonist, the film follows a depressed psychic as she works with detectives to get to the bottom of the mystery behind a funeral home owner with three corpses of mummified children in his possession. Only, these aren’t dead children, but “kyoshi,” or undead, cursed children that must feed on human flesh. They’re very creepy, and yet they still don’t prepare for the wild finale teased on the VHS cover box. However, it does take its time getting there. The Boneyard was written and directed by James Cummins, the creature designer behind the inventive apparitions in 1986’s House. It’s a Thanksgiving horror set almost entirely within a creepy morgue.

Deadly Friend – Tubi

Deadly Friend 1986

The horror begins in earnest on Halloween in Wes Craven’s sci-fi horror movie, but it continues well into Thanksgiving. When Paul loses his robotic bud, BB, he’s devastated. When he loses his would-be girlfriend, Samantha (Kristy Swanson), he decides to rectify both losses by merging the two. Of course, tampering with technology leads to deadly consequences. Aside from the holiday factoring into the plot in a major way, Deadly Friend is worth a watch for the infamous basketball scene alone.

Escape Room – Netflix (Leaves November 30)

Escape Room

If you blink, you might miss that  Escape Room happens to be set around Thanksgiving. It’s a small detail highlighted in the introduction to protagonist Zoey (Taylor Russell), who stays behind as her dormmate heads out of town for the Thanksgiving break. Instead of big holiday meals with friends, Zoey finds herself fighting for her life when she tries out a new, mysterious escape room, and it’s rigged with lethal traps. Adam Robitel helms this Saw meets Final Destination thriller that brings the fun thanks to zippy horror direction and elaborate, inventive set pieces.

The Stepfather – Fandango at Home, Prime Video, Roku Channel, Tubi

The Stepfather family gathered at the dinner table for Thanksgiving

Terry O’Quinn stars as the title character, a serial murderer who targets single mothers, hoping to find his perfect family. When it doesn’t work out, he murders his new makeshift family, changes his appearance, and skips town to begin anew. Loosely based on mass murderer John List, The Stepfather brings the intensity thanks to a bone-chilling turn by O’Quinn. His reign of terror is set against a Fall backdrop, with the autumnal vibes only adding to the pervasive sense of dread. That also includes a notable Thanksgiving dinner scene.

The holidays are now in full swing, with Thanksgiving arriving later this week. And as always, we’d like to remind you that horror can provide the perfect escape from holiday stress.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to horror titles perfect for Thanksgiving. These picks avoid some of the most obvious choices, like Blood Rage (available on Night Flight+) or Thanksgiving (on Netflix), in favor of more unexpected holiday horror offerings.

These titles include cult classics that bring nail-biting tension and/or extra servings of cheese, all set during the Thanksgiving holiday. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

For more Stay Home, Watch Horror picks, click here.

Black Friday – Prime Video

Black Friday Review

The Boneyard – Pluto TV, Prime Video, the Roku Channel, Tubi

The Boneyard creepy kid ghoul

This pick is for those that prefer very little in the way of holiday theming. With a very atypical protagonist, the film follows a depressed psychic as she works with detectives to get to the bottom of the mystery behind a funeral home owner with three corpses of mummified children in his possession. Only, these aren’t dead children, but “kyoshi,” or undead cursed children that must feed on human flesh. The Boneyard was written and directed by James Cummins, the creature designer behind the inventive apparitions in 1986’s House. It’s Thanksgiving horror set almost entirely within a creepy morgue.

Into the Dark: Pilgrim – Hulu

Pilgrim

A woman invites pilgrim re-enactors into her home to give her family an authentic recreation of the first Thanksgiving, hoping it’ll get them to put down their phones and bring them closer together. Her well-intentioned plan backfires when the actors refuse to break character, however, and their behavior grows more alarming. Written by Noah Feinberg, Patrick Melton, and Marcus Dunstan, the latter of whom directs, Pilgrim builds to a wild finale.

The Stepfather – Fandango at Home, Hoopla, Kanopy, Peacock, Prime Video, the Roku Channel, SCREAMBOX, Shout! TV, Tubi

His reign of terror is set against a Fall backdrop, with the autumnal vibes only adding to the pervasive sense of dread. That also includes a notable Thanksgiving dinner scene.

ThanksKilling – Pluto TV, the Roku Channel, SCREAMBOX, Tubi

Thankskilling streaming horror

Gobble Gobble, Motherf*cker. This pick is for those who are hungry for a heaping helping of turkey this holiday season. As in, this movie is an absolute turkey, the precise type of cult favorite that aims for pure holiday escapism and entertainment. Jordan Downey’s 2008 horror-comedy lets a homicidal turkey loose on unsuspecting college kids over the Thanksgiving break. It’s as crass as it is low budget, with this turkey giving Jack Frost a run for his money in terms of schlocky holiday horror fare best served with rowdy friends and a glass of spiked eggnog.

Pair it with follow-up ThanksKilling 3, also streaming on SCREAMBOX!

On the 9th day of Creepmas, the aliens and tech run amok to stuff the socks with horror. Science fiction’s broad umbrella covers everything from the future to outer space to alternate realities via technology. The unexplored terrain and concepts within sci-fi provide fertile ground for horror; what’s scarier than the unknown? Even worse, what happens when sci-fi horror invades the holidays? Sometimes, it means one bleak holiday. For other movies, it yields zany results.

The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, this time with 9 sci-fi horror movies that get a bit wild with the yuletide theme.

Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

I’m Dreaming of a White Doomsday

I'm dreaming of a white doomsday

Writer/Director Mike Lombardo’s debut delivers one downer of a holiday horror movie. The plot follows a mother and her 8-year-old son as they experience the holidays in a bunker amidst an apocalypse. In other words, expect an emphasis on the “doom” part of the title. That it’s a small indie feature means that it’s the type of apocalyptic tale that favors slow burn psychological and existential horror over big action swings.

Black Friday

black friday

A raucous creature feature that captures the horrors of shopping on Black Friday. Set within a toy store, it follows a group of disgruntled employees as they begrudgingly arrive for work on the busiest day of the year for retail. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes into Earth via meteor. The employees’ rough night gets exponentially worse when their shoppers become bloodthirsty monsters. Director Casey Tebo is more interested in fun with this holiday horror entry, and it boasts a great cast that includes Devon Sawa and Bruce Campbell.

Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toymaker

Silent Night Deadly Night 5

Mickey Rooney plays the toy maker who dons a Santa suit and makes lethal toys for all naughty boys and girls in this franchise entry. While it’s the allure of killer toys and that eye-catching cover box that entices, there’s an unexpected sci-fi slant here that makes Part 5 one of the more memorable sequels. As in, it’s not the supernatural causing the toys to spring to murderous life to punish the naughty. That makes for an over-the-top sci-fi finale.

Nekrotronic

Nekrotronic

This Australian horror-comedy from director Kiah Roache-Turner centers on an insidious demonic invasion over Christmastime. Only in this instance, the demons intend to use the internet to collect souls. It’s up to unwitting protagonist Howard (Ben O’Toole), who discovers he’s part of a magical sect of Necromancers, to defend the world from the demons. The story itself draws from William Gibson’s Neuromancer. Ghostbusters, The Exorcist, and The Matrix also influence this wacky horror-comedy that sees Monica Bellucci vamp it up as the Demon Queen. This one is for those that love their horror-comedies on the silly side with a hefty dose of splatstick.

Await Further Instructions

Await Further Instructions

The Milgram family have gathered together for Christmas dinner celebrations only to find themselves trapped within their home by a mysterious black substance right outside. The TV transmits a single-line message, “Await further instructions.” Paranoia turns their night of holiday cheer into a dinner party full of carnage. The holiday horror film leans into its dour premise and familiar dysfunction- a holiday staple- through the lens of technology.

Alien Raiders

Alien Raiders

A few days before Christmas, shoppers and employees are wrapping up before closing time at a small-town store when masked gunmen burst in, kill a few people and take the rest hostage. They’re not robbers, though, but rogue scientists trying to determine which of the remaining hostages are aliens in disguise. This one’s a low-budget sci-fi horror flick in the vein of The Thing, but at Christmas. What it lacks in budget, Alien Raiders makes up for in creativity.

Adult Swim Yule Log (aka The Fireplace)

The Fireplace Adult Swim Yule Log

Adult Swim’s 2022 holiday yule log presentation unravels into a gory feature film, courtesy of director Casper Kelly (“Too Many Cooks”). Kelly takes a kitchen sink approach to the horror madness that must be seen to be believed. No really; this dabbles in just about every subgenre of horror, especially sci-fi. Bring the spiked egg nog and buckle up for this unhinged slice of holiday horror.

When an eccentric businessman arrives in town with a new team and brewery, it’s up to Lou, his partner Tina, and a few unexpected allies to save the day. Lowell Dean’s follow-up to the raucous horror-comedy WolfCop is bigger, better, sillier, and more monster-filled. Not only is this sequel set over the holidays, but its central plot toe dips a bit into sci-fi territory. There’s also the matter of Willie (Jonathan Cherry), who has a pesky new alien problem to deal with.

Night of the Comet

Night of the Comet

Valley girls navigate life post-apocalypse when a comet comes along during the holidays. Everything about this horror-comedy screams Christmas, from the setting to the décor to a major character dressing up as Santa to surprise our favorite sisters from the Valley. Besides, any excuse to watch Valley girls take on zombies, mad scientists, and ruthless survivors is worthy.

“There’s no day more harmful to retail workers than this one.”

Released for Black Friday just last month, Casey Tebo‘s horror-comedy Black Friday is a fun one for the holiday season, and I suspect it’s going to become an annual watch for horror fans who can’t get enough of holiday-themed horror. Starring Bruce Campbell and Devon Sawa, Black Friday is a perfect watch for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas too.

Now available on VOD, the film comes to Blu-ray on January 4, 2022!

Here’s the plot synopsis for Black Friday: “On Thanksgiving night, a group of disgruntled toy store employees begrudgingly arrive for work to open the store at midnight for the busiest shopping day of the year. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes to Earth in a meteor. This group of misfits led by store manager Jonathan (Campbell) and longtime employee Ken (Sawa) soon find themselves battling against hordes of holiday shoppers who have been turned into monstrous creatures hellbent on a murderous rampage on Black Friday.”

Speaking with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast, Bruce Campbell recently previewed Black Friday, which reunites the horror icon with an Evil Dead II makeup effects artist!

“I just wanted Casey to realize he’s not hiring Ash. I didn’t take the part because I thought I could make this manager into a macho hero. The whole point is… and that’s what I think makes most of the movie interesting… these are not the people you want to [get attacked] by aliens, especially on their worst day,” Campbell explained. “When they’re already completely overrun.”

He added, “So I liked it because of that. And I liked the fact that my character is a loser manager of a loser toy store… Because now I’m interested.”

Here’s the full schedule from this point forward…

And don’t forget that the *season finale* of “Chucky” airs on both USA and SYFY this coming Tuesday night, November 30th. Preview the episode with a teaser trailer down below!

In the Season One Finale, “Scores old and new will be settled, and sparks will fly, as Chucky’s diabolical plan comes to fruition at a particularly dangerous–and public–venue.”

Actress Fiona Dourif told Bloody Disgusting last week that we’re not ready for the show’s bonkers finale, teasing that the episode “gets so crazy and goes places that I wasn’t expecting.”

Our friends over at Vinegar Syndrome always make sure Black Friday is extra special, and this year’s sale is now live for Thanksgiving Weekend, through Monday, November 29th.

“Pretty much everything is 50% off” as part of the sale, Vinegar Syndrome notes, and previously announced new titles are available alongside just-announced secret titles.

Flesh for Frankenstein, Dario Argento’s Trauma, and Creature are now in stock, with other new titles including Prano Bailey-Bond’s Censor (my personal favorite horror movie of 2021) as well as Ebola Syndrome, TC 2000, Tiger Claws, Satanic Horror Nite, and Steel and Lace.

Here’s the full rundown of everything you need to know…

In the not too distant future, the crew of the spaceship Shenandoah make an unsettling discovery after landing at an archeological dig site on the Saturn moon Titan: another craft, of German origin, has already landed but its crew appears to have vanished save for hotheaded Captain Hans Hofner, who seems to be hiding something about the mysterious disappearances aboard the craft. But it’s not long before the truth is revealed, in the form of a giant, prehistoric alien which intends to eat, and absorb the essences of all humans…A low-budget but very high ambition slice of mid-80s science-fiction/horror, William Malone’s (Scared to Death) CREATURE juxtaposes bloody alien killings with a madcap starring performance from the great Klaus Kinski (Nosferatu the Vampyre, Fitzcarraldo) alongside veteran TV actor Stan Ivar (TV’s Little House on the Prairie), Wendy Schaal (Innerspace), Lyman Ward (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), and Diane Salinger (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure). Featuring outstanding special effects work from genre legends Doug Beswick (Ticks) and Michael McCracken (Silver Bullet) and highly atmospheric cinematography by Harry Mathias (The Right Stuff), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the Blu-ray debut of CREATURE, newly restored in 4K from its original camera negative and presented in both its theatrical and TITAN FIND director’s cut.VS-377UPC: 814456024127directed by: William Malonestarring: Klaus Kinski, Stan Ivar, Wendy Schaal, Lyman Ward, Diane Salinger1985 / 95min & 100min / 2.35:1 / English StereoAdditional info:• Region A Blu-ray• CREATURE: newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative. Deranged scientist, Baron von Frankenstein, with the help of his bizarre assistant, Otto, is determined to create a new master race, of which he will be the leader. To achieve his objective, he constructs two perfect ‘zombies’ from an assemblage of body parts, intending for them to mate. Meanwhile, complications ensue as Nicholas, a farm hand, begins an affair with the Baron’s sexually frustrated wife all while searching for his missing friend Sacha, whose head and brain have been used for Frankenstein’s male “zombie”!A delectably gory and cynical social satire from acclaimed filmmaker Paul Morrissey (Mixed Blood), FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN is among the most original and transgressive interpretations of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. With an exceptional cast, led by Udo Kier (Suspiria, Mark of the Devil), in what might be his most iconic performance, Joe Dallesandro (Cry Baby), Monique van Vooren (Sugar Cookies), and Italian child star Nicoletta Elmi (Deep Red), and featuring a lush soundtrack by Claudio Gizzi (Blood for Dracula), FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN became an immediate midnight and cult movie sensation. Produced by actor and martial artist Jalal Merhi, the Tiger Claws series has become a staple for the straight to video martial arts movies of the 90s. Complete with gun fights, fist fights and the occasional car explosion, what sets the Tiger Claws series apart from other action films of the era, are their appreciation for the martial arts and their focus on mysticism. Featuring strong performances from the always kick-ass Cynthia Rothrock (Martial Law, China O’Brien) as well as genre favorites Bolo Yeung (Bloodsport), Carter Wong (Big Trouble in Little China), and Harry Mok (The Vineyard), Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present the Tiger Claws series on Blu-ray for the first time ever, scanned in 4k from their original camera negatives.TIGER CLAWS: When the bodies of local martial arts masters keep turning up with mysterious claw marks in their skin, NYPD detective and martial arts enthusiast,Tarek Richards (Jalal Merhi) is put on the case. We’ve been taking a look at some of this week’s Black Friday deals in recent days here on Bloody Disgusting, with sales taking place, as always, at Amazon, Target, and Best Buy.

Of course, Walmart is also getting in on the Black Friday fun this year, with over 150 select movie titles on sale in batches priced at $5.96, $7.96, $9.96, and $12.96.

Walmart’s Black Friday ad lists Mortal Kombat (2021), Godzilla vs. Kong and A Quiet Place Part II on DVD for $5.96 each, with the Godzilla vs. Kong Blu-ray on sale for $9.96. There’s not a whole lot pictured in the ad and the sale prices aren’t yet reflected on Walmart’s website so it’s hard to tell what else is on sale, but we can be pretty sure more horror titles are in the mix.

From what we gather, all sales will go into effect in stores early Friday morning, while some select sales are now available for you to take advantage of online as of this past Monday night.

Browse some of Walmart’s Black Friday 2021 movie deals right here.

In the wake of Hallmark Christmas movie One December Night, Bruce Campbell is back in the horror genre with Black Friday, a horror-comedy that was released on VOD today.

Campbell stars alongside Devon Sawa (“Chucky”), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps), Stephen Peck, and Michael Jai White (Spawn) in Casey Tebo‘s horror-comedy, a group of characters stuck in a toy store with a horde of “demonic” shoppers.

Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast chats with Bruce Campbell in a brand new episode this week, which touches upon everything from Evil Dead to holiday horror movie Black Friday. What drew Campbell to his latest horror role, you might be wondering?

Bruce Campbell

“I just wanted Casey [Tebo] to realize he’s not hiring Ash. I didn’t take the part because I thought I could make this manager into a macho hero. The whole point is… and that’s what I think makes most of the movie interesting… these are not the people you want to [get attacked] by aliens, especially on their worst day,” Campbell explains. “When they’re already completely overrun.”

He adds, “So I liked it because of that. And I liked the fact that my character is a loser manager of a loser toy store; that’s who you attack with aliens. Because now I’m interested.”

One of the other interesting things about Black Friday is that the film reunites Campbell with Robert Kurtzman, who he first worked with on Evil Dead II way back in the 1980s.

“The cool thing about Bob Kurtzman is that Bob goes all the way back to Evil Dead 2. So we called him “Grumpy Bob” back in those days… he had a little more edge to him, as the artiste special effects guy. Now he’s been beaten down enough he’s just like a normal guy. Bob’s great,” Campbell explains. “One of the nice things about hanging around for a while is you start to run into people over and over again. And some people are like a bad check… you don’t want them coming back but they keep coming back. And other people, like Bob, it makes you feel comfortable in your job. Cause you go, ‘Oh, Bob’s got this.’ You know that it’s gonna be fine. Bob’s worked on high budget, medium budget, low budget, nothing phases him. I think he did a great job. It’s really fun to come back and work with “Grumpy Bob” again.”

Will Black Friday end up spawning sequels the way Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead did? As always, “it all depends on how it does,” Campbell explains to The Boo Crew.

“If it does well, those producers will milk that teat. I don’t know. I hope so,” he notes.

You can listen to The Boo Crew’s full chat with Bruce Campbell below. And be sure not to miss Casey Tebo’s Black Friday, now available in select theaters and for digital rental/purchase!

While Ghostbusters: Afterlife tops the box office in its first full week of release, you may be wondering what else we can expect on the road to Thanksgiving and Black Friday. It’s actually a surprisingly robust week for the horror genre, with the Resident Evil film franchise returning to theaters and a brand new Bruce Campbell horror-comedy making its way home to Digital.

Here’s all the new horror headed our way between November 22-28!

Bruce Campbell and Devon Sawa lead the cast of the brand new holiday horror-comedy Black Friday, which released in theaters last week and comes home this Tuesday, November 23.

In the Black Friday-themed horror-comedy: “On Thanksgiving night, a group of disgruntled toy store employees begrudgingly arrive for work to open the store at midnight for the busiest shopping day of the year.

The cast also includes Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps), Stephen Peck, and Michael Jai White (Spawn). The film was composed by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.

We debuted the trailer here on BD. Watch it now.

Also on Tuesday, Shudder will release The Strings, fresh off the film’s world premiere at the Salem Horror Fest this past Halloween season. The film marks Ryan Glover’s directorial debut.

“In the dead of winter, musician Catherine travels to her aunt’s remote cottage on the shores of Prince Edward Island to work on new material in solitude. Soon after visiting an abandoned farmhouse with local photographer Grace, strange and disturbing occurrences begin to manifest at the cottage, escalating each night and eroding Catherine’s sense of reality.”

The all-female cast of The Strings is headed by up and coming musician Teagan Johnston (aka Little Coyote), marking her acting debut, and she also wrote and performed the film’s original music live on set. Jenna Schaefer co-stars as Grace.

Watch the trailer here.

Tuesday, November 23rd also brings us the second-to-last episode of SYFY and USA’s “Chucky” Season 1 from Don Mancini, which is titled “Twice the Grieving, Double the Loss.”

Chucky has begun brutally killing off the parents of the show’s teenage characters, while Tiffany and Nica-Chucky form a surprising new bond and Andy and Kyle from the original two Child’s Play movies continue to hunt down and terminate possessed Chucky dolls. But what exactly is Chucky’s end game and what can we expect from these final two episodes?

Here’s the official synopsis for this week’s new episode:

“As Hackensack reels from Chucky’s relentless–but secret–reign of terror, the Mayor tries to allay fears by cluelessly arresting an innocent suspect. Meanwhile, the kids desperately try to figure out Chucky’s mysterious endgame–before it’s too late.”

The Resident Evil film franchise returns to the horror roots of the video games with new movie Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which hits the reboot button on the film series.

From director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night), Sony’s new movie takes a bite out of theaters on November 24, with no at-home release scheduled.

“Returning to the terrifying roots of the massively popular franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games of the billion dollar franchise and the most successful video game adaptation in history to life for a whole new generation of fans.”

“Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.”

The cast includes Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for Black Friday deals on November 26th, but don’t forget that there are also two brand new horror movies being released this Friday.

The first one is titled The Last Rite, coming to VOD platforms.

An official selection of FrightFest, Samuel Goldwyn Films will be releasing The Last Rite, a new exorcism horror film that’s said to be rooted in writer-director Leroy Kincaide‘s love of The Amityville Horror, Poltergeist, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

In the film, “A medical student suffering from sleep paralysis finds herself plagued by a demonic entity hell-bent on ripping her apart. With time running out and the dark force consuming her from within, Lucy is left with no alternative but to seek help from a local priest, But Father Roberts has a dilemma – does he obey orders or help Lucy by conducting his own exorcism against the will of the church?”

You can watch the trailer right here.

The other new horror movie releasing this Friday is the Indian film Chhorii, from T-Series, CryptTV, and Abundantia Entertainment. It’ll be exclusively available on Amazon Prime Video.

Chhorii was directed by Vishal Furia, and it’s a remake of his own Marathi-language horror Lapachhapi. The cast also includes Mita Vashisht, Rajesh Jais and Saurabh Goyal.

“Set deep in the heartlands, Chhorii is the story of a modern, young couple, Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha) and Hemant. Sakshi is eight months pregnant with her first child when the couple, forced out of their home, escapes from the city and seeks refuge in a house located deep inside sugarcane fields. The house is inhabited by an old couple who seem to know more than they tell. Unknown to Sakshi, the house and the fields are ridden with dark secrets that start unravelling as the story unfolds, posing a threat to Sakshi and her unborn child.

“Even as Sakshi tries to save herself and her unborn baby, scary sightings of three mysterious kids and a charred monster coupled with an eerie lullaby, emanating from an old transistor, wreak havoc with her sanity. Will Sakshi be able to save herself? Will she be able to protect her unborn child? Sakshi’s quest to find the answers to these questions and escape from the horrors takes us on a journey that’s deals with scares, both normal and paranormal.”

Encounter a sinister evil by watching the trailer here.

The final new release this week brings a little holiday horror to the table, with Netflix premiering the brand new Danish creature feature series “Elves” on Sunday, November 28th.

In Elves, “A Christmas vacation turns into a nightmare for a teenager and her family when they discover an ancient menace that stalks their island getaway.”

We won’t make you click another link. Watch the trailer for “Elves” below!

Chatting with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast this week about everything from The Evil Dead to brand new horror-comedy Black Friday, horror icon Bruce Campbell let it slip that one of his next projects will take him into the world of comic books… as a writer!

“I’m writing a comic book for a major comic book company right now,” Campbell teased while talking with The Boo Crew about his writing process. “And it’s six issues that you’ve gotta plot out. And I cannot just sit there with a pen in my mouth… looking at a blank page… I want to figure it out scene by scene and know where the story’s going.”

He continues, “Cause I can actually step back from that board and look at the entire story and go, ‘Hmm, that first part’s a little lopsided… ohh that middle’s a little fat over there.’ So you can get to it before you even write a word. It still may suck, granted, but I like going in with some kind of discipline. I’ll start early in the morning and by noon my brain is leaking out through my nose and it’s time to cut the grass or go swimming or something physical.”

You can listen to The Boo Crew’s full chat with Bruce Campbell below. And be sure not to miss Casey Tebo’s Black Friday, coming to theaters November 19 and VOD November 23.

If there was ever a day of the year that deserved the horror movie treatment, Black Friday is the one. We’ve all seen the news footage of angry, zombie-like shoppers storming retail stores, desperate to get their hands on the latest deals with absolutely no regard for the overworked staffers. While this has been less of a common occurrence in the age of online retailers, it doesn’t make the true accounts of some of these violent incidents any less horrifying. Casey Tebo‘s Black Friday turns the metaphorical zombies into literal ones, making for a horror comedy rife with potential that it doesn’t fully capitalize on.

Ken (Devon Sawa, Final Destination) is a down-on-his-luck father in the midst of a divorce, lamenting his job as a low-level toy store employee at We ♥ Toys. He is prepared for a typically exhausting Black Friday with his fellow overworked crew of staffers, including potential love interest Marnie (Ivana Baquero, Pan’s Labyrinth), overachieving Christopher (Ryan Lee, Super 8), handy Archie (Michael Jai White, Spawn, Black Dynamite) perfect employee of the month Anita and new guy Emmett (Louie Kurtzman). Lorded over by their opportunistic manager Jonathan (Bruce Campbell, The Evil Dead) and his acerbic assistant Brian (Stephen Peck), the workers initially struggle with unpaid breaks, a lack of holiday bonuses and the looming danger of trampling-by-shoppers. Unfortunately, they soon find themselves in a cosmic battle for the planet as pink, blob-like aliens begin infecting the shoppers and mutating them into vicious creatures.

Working off of a script written by Andy Greskoviak, Tebo wastes no time getting right to the carnage. Character introductions and dynamics are handled swiftly before the attacks begin. It’s in these early moments that the film is at its best, with characters feeling lived-in and the humor feeling fresh. It turns stale rather quickly, however, with the film repeating the same types of jokes over and over. There are a few quiet moments between sequences of mayhem, with one shared Thanksgiving meal between the survivors offering some nice insight into their relationships and life situations. It’s one of the few genuine moments of pathos in the film that threatens to expand these characters beyond one-dimensional stereotypes, but it’s a threat that goes unfulfilled.

Similarly disappointing is the misuse of the toy store as a setting. This is a fun, colorful locale with plenty of opportunities for creativity when it comes to horror movie set pieces, but Black Friday seems content to treat it as any other drab warehouse. Nowhere to be seen are cleverly shot cat-and-mouse sequences between the aisles and we rarely see the creative use of toys as weapons. It’s all played loud and dumb, which makes for a perfectly acceptable (if not particularly memorable) viewing experience. It’s just unfortunate that you’ll find more bizarre hijinks and better kills in the all-too-brief climax of 2019’s Child’s Play remake.

Bruce Campbell

Black Friday opts to go the surface-level route in its social critique, with a few lines about corporate greed and American consumerism thrown in for good measure. It’s just disappointing that the film refuses to dig any deeper than that, especially when George A. Romero did it so well over 40 years ago in Dawn of the Dead. The lack of wit becomes more and more apparent as the film trucks along. Not every joke is a dud (an elderly employee casually mentioning how they separated shoppers by race during the first Black Friday she ever worked earns a mean-spirited laugh), but they’re all crammed into the first act. This sadly means the rest of the film is filled with a bunch of groaners.

Special makeup effects are provided by the always-outstanding Robert Kurtzman, who gives the infected Black Friday shoppers an appropriately ferocious design, complete with long, sharp teeth a protruding white goo tongue that they use to infect others. It’s appropriately gnarly, but most of the budget seems to have been saved for the admittedly bananas, go-for-broke climax, leaving little room for the eye-popping gore effects we’ve come to know and love from the makeup maestro. Outside of a few arterial sprays, there’s little else here in the way of gore.

Both Sawa and Campbell look like they’re having a lot of fun, with Campbell getting to play the sleazy store manager who cares more about earning the corporate-demanded six figures than the safety of his employees in a monster apocalypse. Sawa has to play the straight man against a diverse cast of likable characters, but none of them do much to stand out with the exception of Peck’s Brian, who quickly becomes the character you love to hate and can’t wait to see die.

There’s a moment late in the film when Ken laments one of his dad jokes, but Black Friday turns out to be a dad joke of a movie: obvious, predictable and corny. It’s unclear how you squander a setting as rife with potential as a toy store, but Black Friday manages to do just that. This isn’t to say that it’s without merit, as anyone who wants to see Campbell and Sawa go toe-to-toe against Black Friday alien mutants will find something to enjoy here. It just won’t blow your socks off.

Screen Media is planning a day-and-date release for Black Friday in November.

Ahead of the film’s World Premiere at Fantastic Fest, Casey Tebo‘s Black Friday, a horror-comedy starring Bruce Campbell and Devon Sawa, has been picked up by Screen Media.

Variety reports that Black Friday will be released day-and-date in November 2021!

In the film, “On the busiest shopping night of the year, a group of disgruntled toy store employees must defend themselves from legions of holiday shoppers when a mysterious alien parasite turns them into monstrous creatures hell-bent on a murderous rampage.”

“When Andy sent me this script, it was such a blast!” Tebo said in a statement to Variety. “It reminded me of some of my favorite holiday horror movies like Gremlins or Krampus. I could see myself running to a midnight showing to see this with other horror fans, and at the same time, I could see my kids watching it at a sleepover with their friends. It’s imaginative, original, scary, fun, and the right bit of ridiculous – and that’s all the things I want to see in a movie!”

Sawa had told Bloody Disgusting last year, “We’ve relied on old-fashioned filmmaking. Robert Kurtzman, the SFX team, has all prosthetics. It’s like you walk onto where we’re shooting and there’s rooms of like heads, and a whole team of people painting, and we got hydraulic bubbles. I’m sure there’s going to be a few where they’re gonna have to do CGI because there’s some car throwing and all this stuff, but we’re back in old school prosthetic world.”

The cast also includes Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps) and Michael Jai White (Spawn). Check out an image below and expect the trailer very soon.

One of the upcoming horror movies that’s set to World Premiere at Fantastic Fest is Casey Tebo‘s Black Friday, a horror-comedy starring Bruce Campbell and Devon Sawa (“Chucky”).

In the film, “A ragtag group of toy store employees get more than they bargained for when Black Friday shoppers mutate into violent monsters.”

Here’s the full description from Fantastic Fest, which describes Black Friday as “the best commentary on the dark side of capitalism since Dawn of the Dead“…

“Everyone knows Black Friday is the worst day to work in retail. Something about a good deal turns even the sanest consumer into a wild animal. But the usual chaos and violence pales in comparison to what the employees of the “We Love Toys” store must face this time around.

“Devon Sawa stars as a down-on-his luck father in the midst of divorce, lamenting his job as a low-level toy store employee. He and the other rambunctious, overworked crew of staffers are prepared for a typically exhausting Black Friday full of shoppers hungry for a deal, but they could never have expected the shoppers to turn into blood-hungry maniacs with only one goal: Come together to feed and combine their powers into something full-on Lovecraftian.

“While Sawa continues his successful renaissance in the genre world with a refreshing turn as the cynical leader of the employees, it’s the inimitable Bruce Campbell who really surprises as the bumbling, uptight manager, Jonathan: a decidedly less heroic character than we’ve come to expect from him. Add in a healthy splash of outrageous gore and some ooey-gooey creature effects, and this is the soon-to-be-cult holiday horror movie you never knew you needed.”

Devon Sawa has arguably had a larger impact on pop culture than most other actors who were working in the early 2000s. We are no longer “fans” of anything, we “Stan” them. The very term now deeply embedded in the lexicon was co-opted from the name of a character Sawa famously portrayed in Eminem’s multi-platinum hit “Stan” (2000).

Sawa seamlessly transitioned from teen heartthrob to pop-horror icon playing Anton Tobias in 1999’s cult classic Idle Hands. He then starred as Alex Browning in the cultural phenomenon that was Final Destination (2000), which spawned a five-film franchise.

His latest film Hunter Hunter, a psychological horror-thriller, is set to release just in time to bloody up the holidays. Following that, he is also starring in Black Friday and Death Rider in the House of Vampires with none other than Bruce Campbell and Glenn Danzig, respectively. I recently had the pleasure of speaking to Mr. Sawa about his upcoming projects and a lot of his past work including the iconic video for “Stan.”

What can you tell us about Hunter Hunter?

It’s a film that—man, I don’t even know how they got me the script, but somehow the script landed with me. I think it was a million and a half budget, it was shooting in Winnipeg. The script really just spoke to me. You know, Blumhouse is doing all these really cool movies where they’re horror, they’re smart, they got more of a psychological thriller going on, and this movie kind of fits in that world. These horror movies that are coming out lately—other than, you know, Crawl, which I love—but most of these horrors that are coming out lately, that are doing well are smart, they’re smart films—Hereditary, all these films like that. So, this was kind of like that. There’s no one chasing anybody with a knife, there wasn’t pointless gore and whatnot, it was just really done well. And the ending, on paper it was like whoa, we’re gonna do that? And when they filmed it, it just surpassed that. It was phenomenal. You know, I’m happy that I got on it and did it.

I know you can’t talk about it too much yet, but can you discuss what themes are covered in the film?

It’s basically, it’s about a family. They come from a long line of hunters. My character’s father is a hunter, his father was a hunter, but in the changing world, the changing times, you know, no one’s looking for beaver pelts and that kind of stuff. So, they’ve got to make a decision whether they can live in this world anymore; make a living and survive out in the wilderness. And then it just takes a turn. They run into some other stuff. That’s the overall kind of gist to it.

What about your character? He seems really intense.

Yeah, he’s intense. You know, this character I really had to—I’m not a hunter. I’ve never gone hunting. I’m not against hunting. I think that if you’re hunting for meat and whatnot it is what it is. So, it was a stretch for me. I had to figure out a way, because I had to skin animals in the film—not real animals—but, you know, I had to be a skinner, but I had to do it in a way that was just second nature. He’s a hard man and he’s been living out in the woods and it was a stretch for me. I’m a city guy.

Devon Sawa in ‘Hunter Hunter’

How did you approach that headspace?

Well, the thing is I got the script and within a week I was on a plane going to Winnipeg, and within a couple days of arriving in Winnipeg I was on the set. So, preparing for it was—I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for it. So, the director, Shawn Linden, he comes from that world. He’s not a hunter, but he’s an outdoorsy guy and he knows about all that stuff. So, I really had to be a sponge on set, and I had to listen and trust. It was a lot of trust. It was a lot of “this is how we sharpen the knife,” or “this is what we do when we—you know, we don’t want to cut here, we want to cut”—and I had to absorb all that as quickly as possible. Luckily, I already had the beard growing, so that worked out. Yeah, the preparation was just a lot of getting to set and between setups, having these conversations with the director on who this guy is and what he does and how he does it, and trying to make it appear that I’ve been doing it all my life.

That’s something you run into a lot with the indie world.

Well, there’s two ways it goes, and it doesn’t ever go [both] ways. It either goes “Ok, you got an offer on this movie. Do you like it? Yeah, you gotta leave tomorrow.” There’s that way, or there’s the “Hey, here’s a script. They really like you. They’re thinking about going next month.” And that ends up being six months.

You’re from Canada, aren’t you?

I am. I’m from Vancouver.

So, you were well versed in shooting in an environment like Winnipeg.

Well, Vancouver is like the tropics of Canada. It really is. It’s not as cold as Toronto or Montreal, and Winnipeg takes the cake for the coldest. We were shooting there in—started in September and went through October. We got a record snowstorm and we had to shut down the set for a couple of days. It was brutal. It was brutal at times, but it really plays into it. There is nothing that helps with the creepiness of the movie like being cold and uncomfortable and wet, you know. It all just kind of played into it. And we couldn’t get a lot of the equipment as far as heaters or tents up into some of the locations, so you just kind of gotta huddle around, and it just all kind of plays into the film. You know, they had these backpacks on us, and we were carrying rifles, and there’s not a lot of places to set it down, so you just start feeling the fatigue and the weather and it all kind of just works with the whole thing.

I feel like there’s a big twist coming somewhere in the movie…

There’s some twists. There’s multiple twists. I’ll say this, you know, sometimes I’ll read the comments below the YouTube thing and someone will be like “this isn’t about a wolf” and it’s like, way to go genius. It really isn’t about a wolf. I mean, there’s a little bit to the wolf. But yeah, there’s some major twists. I can’t really speak about it because the movie is just about the twists. It’s kind of like, it’s that smart kind of Sixth Sense, or whatever, any of these movies. It relies on these twists. Especially the ending. It’s—I don’t think people are gonna see it coming. It really is kind of—it’s like the Blair Witch Project ending where you just kind of go ‘whoa, what the fuck?’ It’s got that strong ending.

What can you tell us about Black Friday at this point?

Black Friday came to me at the beginning of the quarantine and it was just me at this point. I read it and it was the first time I felt—I hadn’t done anything like Idle Hands or Slackers in a lot of years. I felt like after Slackers I didn’t really want to revisit comedy at all or that kind of comedy. And I read this script and it’s a lot of fun. It’s comedy but more like The Boys. It’s serious but people are going to find it amusing. And then [Bruce] Campbell coming on to it was like—I mean, I based the character of Anton Tobias off of Campbell’s performance in Evil Dead 2. When I first got the script for Idle Hands it was about a mother that got possessed. There was one little bit where my hand got possessed before she did. That scene was in the addition and I went into Sony and did this whole—now looking back at this I basically ripped Campbell off. I was such a gigantic fan as a kid of his, and my friend and I had done the hand stuff so many times. We had a trampoline, and we would flip ourselves. You know, I was a twelve-year-old kid that was in love with Bruce Campbell’s characters in those movies. And I went into that Sony room and I did that.

Bruce Campbell, I’ve always been a gigantic fan. So, he came on second and I was like [mind blown]. Then we get this young cast of up and comers, and we’ve started shooting it. And we’ve relied on old-fashioned filmmaking. Robert Kurtzman, the SFX team, has all prosthetics. It’s like you walk onto where we’re shooting and there’s rooms of like heads, and a whole team of people painting, and we got hydraulic bubbles. It’s like we’re back in filmmaking. I’m sure there’s going to be a few where they’re gonna have to do CGI because there’s some car throwing and all this stuff, but we’re back in old school prosthetic world. I’ve veered completely from the question but I’m just so excited to be on this project. It’s been a lot of fun. We’re shooting chronologically, so the first week it’s been a lot of just normal stuff, like the stuff in the toy store where we’re just employees and setting the story and whatever. We just started on Friday night getting into the creature shit. You know, I get attacked and battle it out with a skateboard. It’s just awesome stuff, man. It’s really awesome stuff.

That sounds like a fucking blast.

It’s so cool. And next week we get into some really—I mean next week, Monday, Tuesday, and the following week, it’s all creatures and shit like that. And it’s a very original kind of creature.

There’s been a lot of filmmakers returning to practical effects lately because it just looks better having an actual monster on set instead of something CG.

We had the team that did the [old lady] from Doctor Sleep. That [old lady] was awesome. It was frightening, the old lady in the bathtub.

Have you ever worked with Bruce Campbell before?

No. I spoke to him on Twitter a few years ago. I had to confess my love for him and where Idle Hands came from, and he sent me a nice little message. I never knew that we’d be working together. I wish I could go back and tell twelve-year-old me that you’re gonna work with this guy one day on something just as wacky as this stuff.

It is pretty interesting that so many newer filmmakers are reverting back to practical effects. It does look a hell of a lot better.

Well, I did a movie with Glenn Danzig, a vampire spaghetti western, that—yeah, and he’s gonna use all—he’s dumped a lot of his own money, like millions of dollars into digital effects. Like, I think he dumped two million dollars into digital effects on these vampires, and apparently it looks really fucking badass. But we had this crazy team of computer guys on set all the time and supposedly they killed it. I haven’t seen the film yet, so I don’t know. It was an interesting film to shoot, to say the least. It was quite wild.

What movie is that?

Death Rider (Death Rider in the House of Vampires). Got Eli Roth in there. It’s cool. We all just had a real good time shooting that and Glenn Danzig is a character. So, we’ll see with that one.

I didn’t know he was making another movie.

Yeah, I never knew about the first movie when I was shooting the second movie with him. I think a few days into shooting it, they were like ‘have you heard of Verotika?’ I’m like, ‘no, is it good?’ It was just—silence. But this one, he had a cast of actors and a lot bigger budget.

I’m sure having a cast and budget is going to make a huge difference.

It’s going to make a huge difference. Glenn Danzig is an unconventional director; I will say that. It’s wild working with him. Like, I worked with Fred Durst too, another rock musician, but Fred Durst was much more—grounded than Glenn Danzig was. Glenn Danzig was wild. It was a wild experience, and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. It was very interesting.

Devon Sawa in Fred Durst’s ‘The Fanatic’

How would you compare the two as directors?

Fred Durst is very educated in film. He wanted to do things the conventional way, whereas Danzig was gonna do shit like a fucking rockstar, you know what I mean. Danzig was like, “Yeah, that might not be how film people do it, but we’re rockstars and we’re gonna do it this way.” Whereas Durst was a little bit more like, you know, he had a shot list and was working with the DP and this and that, so. It was just two different ways. They were both wild.

I was curious about how Danzig would prepare for a film.

He had a vision. He had a vision, and he was going with it, and we’ll see when it comes out. He was very, very strong and stubborn at times about what he wanted, and we’ll see. He’s a wild guy, man. Fucking Glenn Danzig.

So Death Rider already wrapped?

Death Rider’s shot. It was shot last year. I think that the Corona virus shut it down for about five months of post-production. I can say this, I’ve heard some of his soundtrack. He did the soundtrack for it and I went to the studio to listen to him lay down some tracks. And because it’s a spaghetti western, he’s kind of got that Sergio Leone vibe going, but it’s all fucking, like, punk/metal shit. It’s pretty fucking cool. I don’t know what the film’s gonna look like, but the soundtrack’s amazing.

Devon Sawa in ‘Final Destination’

So, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Final Destination franchise.

You know, the story goes like this as far as not going back for the sequel, just before I talk about my favorites and whatnot. So, I did that movie when I was like twenty, I think, and I was partying and I wasn’t in the position to go back for the sequel and everybody felt that, so I didn’t. And so, the second one, it kind of stung a little that they killed me with a brick. But after that, it became exciting to watch because every one they cast new, young actors and it became exciting to watch what they’d do with the material, with the concepts, with the project. Five is definitely my favorite. I think that CGI got to a point where it was becoming flawless and five utilized that a lot. I saw it in 3D as well, and it worked great for that movie. And, you know, it was a smart ending, the twist. I’m happy that it’s gone as far as it’s gone and launched a couple of young careers. It’s a great franchise.

What is the craziest direction you’ve ever gotten on a film?

The craziest direction I ever got? I think that I always think about—for years, I think about the Eminem “Stan” video. I got to set for that video. I didn’t know anything, what we were doing. I just got to set, and they handed me the lyrics and said, “Oh, by the way, you’re going lip sync this” and I went “Come again?” And I remember doing the first basement scene and lip syncing it. They yelled cut and Dr. Dre came in and he’s like, “Yo, this time you gotta try it with a little bit more rhythm,” and I was like, ah man. For the longest time, I think that—because he said my lips were off a little, and I want to know, I don’t know, like, back then or not, if there was a delay in the monitor, like between the loud speaker and the monitor itself. I know there’s a delay in the monitor. So, I’m wondering if, and I wish I could go back and ask somebody or if I was just that bad. But if there was a slight delay in the monitor and—like the loudspeaker was playing something but my lips were moving differently on the monitor because of the delay. I don’t know, I always think that’s the craziest direction I ever got was Dr. Dre telling me an actor that’s never done any sort of stuff like that to do it with more rhythm. I’m sure I’ve gotten plenty of directions that are wild, but that one always sticks with me. I just think it’s funny in a way.

No. That’s a great one. I would shit my pants if Dr. Dre told me that.

Well, I remember getting there and them handing me the lyric sheet and I was like, “Ah, ok.” And then I was sitting in my trailer—I knew the song, but I didn’t know the song word for word, and I was just trying to learn this over and over. It was crazy. It was crazy. The amount of people I had on my team back then, agents and managers and whatnot, nobody wanted me to do that video. It was a friend of mine came to me and said, “Hey, I have a friend that’s a casting director and they want to know if you’ll meet Eminem about a Stan video.” And Eminem was blowing up at that point, but he wasn’t Eminem yet and my agents and managers didn’t see it. Because no one was doing music videos. There was a lot of stuff back then that was turned down. I remember that High Times approached me back in like ’97 and was like, “Do you want to do a cover for High Times” and I was like “Fuck yeah, I do.” So, I went to my agent and publicists and I was like “High Times Cover!” They were like, “No! You can’t do a High Times cover. That’s ridiculous.” And then like five years later, there’s like Seth Rogen on High Times magazine.

Back to horror. How has horror changed to you over the years?

It’s constantly evolving and we’re turning to things like—when I first started visiting horror, it was the height of the teen horror films. Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, all those. Urban Legend, Disturbing Behavior, all these teen movies, which is why we did Idle Hands, kind of a, something different. But that kind of went away and horror kind of died down a little bit. Then it came back with these smart Hereditary style films that were different from the slasher films. And now I think it’s going to start taking a turn back to the teen horror films again. I think Scream is going to come out and be huge. There’s going to be I Know What You Did Last Summer on tv. You know, we’re gonna start seeing the reboot of teen horror films. I think that Crawl—Crawl was so great. It was just so loony and awesome. I would like to see more of those. I don’t even know what kind of genre it is. I remember going to the theater to see it and it just being a lot of fun. It wasn’t trying too hard. It was just alligators in a house during a flood and people dying. That was it. That was the concept, and it was shot well, it was directed well, it was acted well. And the other one was Ready or Not. That’s another film that was really well done. I like new ideas too. That’s the other thing. I hope that they keep giving us new stuff.

I saw that you’re reading the novel Kin (by Kealan Patrick Burke). I loved that book.

Yeah. I’m only like five pages in so don’t spoil it. Have they planned on doing a movie of that? That’s one of the greatest things about Twitter for me. I don’t think I would have ever found this guy if it wasn’t for Twitter, which is sad. He seems to be really talented. But also, Don Winslow I found somehow on Twitter and is one of my favorite authors now. Thank God for Twitter for giving these guys the platform they need.

What is your all-time favorite horror movie?

It’s a tough question because there’s a lot of different genres within horror. Like, I love The Shining, even though I read the book and I just love the book more. Even though the film is still a masterpiece, I just think the book is so much better. I would have to say that The Devil’s Rejects is up there. Yeah, I would have to say Devil’s Rejects is one of my all-times. Texas Chainsaw Massacre if we’re going back, and Rosemary’s Baby, and all these older films. And a film I really like of recent is Don’t Breathe. The one in the basement, that’s a really good film. But I would say Devil’s Rejects would be my contemporary favorite horror film.

It’s Black Friday week once again, and as ever, there’s plenty of horror gaming deals to be found. Many of them can be done without even having to leave the house or wait for the mail too, which is that bit more essential this year.

New consoles are out, but you’d currently be lucky to find one available at retail price, let alone at any discount. So we’ll focus on some of the best deals for games rather than the hardware. If you did get a new console, however, there are some choice deals on extra storage, including a 2TB External Hard Drive for PS5 for just $75 at Walmart or this 8TB monster from Best Buy for just under $200. Perfect for keeping all your last generation games handy.

The stores also have the usual array of physical copies of games on sale, all at around the same prices as each other. There may be deeper discounts yet to be revealed, but in the meantime, here are a few highlights.

One of the most notable deals of the sales is for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, which is reduced to just $29.99 at Best Buy, Walmart, and Amazon among others. You can also pick up The Last of Us Remastered for a measly $9.99 at Walmart, Amazon, and more.

If you fancy some discounted gore-soaked fighting action then Mortal Kombat 11 (PS4, Xbox One, Switch) is down to just $12.99 at Best Buy, which is great if you bought a new console because PS4 and Xbox One versions include a free next-gen upgrade.

Nintendo Switch games are rarely down in price, so Luigi’s Mansion 3 being $39.99 at Best Buy is as close to a bargain as you’ll get for this family-friendly spooky gem.

GameStop kicks off its sale on November 25, and features game deals alongside heavy discounts on selected headsets, consoles, and is offering a $50 store voucher with the purchase of select Vizio 4K HDR TVs.

In the all-digital realm, there’s plenty of price cuts for the season. First up, the PlayStation Store Black Friday Deals have up to 70% off a variety of games including The Last of Us Part II, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3, Control: Ultimate Edition, Nioh 2, and Mortal Shell.

The Xbox Black Friday Sale has up to 50% off on games such as Resident Evil 3, Fallout 76, Sea of Thieves, Gears 5 (which has a free next-gen upgrade), Alice: Madness Returns, and the Arkane Anniversary Collection (which includes the Dishonored games and Prey).

carrion review 01

Nintendo is also getting in on the digital sales fun with a sale on portable treats such as Dark Souls Remastered, Hades, Diablo III, and Carrion.

On itch.io, there’s a Thankskilling Sale by Puppet Combo and Torture Star Video that gives you six games by the indie horror game creators including Baby Sitter Bloodbath, Nun Massacre, and The Horror of Salazar House for a total of $13.95. If you want something a bit different from your seasonal horror game playing, then this is a pretty good place to start.

Elsewhere on PC, you can head to The Humble Bundle Fall Sale which features up to 90% off PC games including Dead Rising 2, Wolfenstein II, Dying Light, Dead By Daylight: Silent Hill Chapter, Jurassic World: Evolution, and DOOM.

Steam’s sale is still yet to be revealed, but expect that to arrive on actual Black Friday with significant discounts on a lot of the usual suspects.

Here’s hoping you’ll have a relatively happy Thanksgiving, and grab a nice bargain or two to boot.

Now through Monday, December 2nd at 11:59pm EST, Vinegar Syndrome‘s annual Black Friday sale is live, with deals including 50% off nearly everything and the unveiling of two new surprise release titles: 1973’s The Candy Snatchers and the Blu-ray debut of 1986’s Spookies!

Other brand new releases now available for Black Friday are Vice Academy 1-3, Savage Dawn, The Angel Collection and the newly-unearthed “gore cut” of Tammy and the T-Rex.

Here’s the full rundown:

VICE ACADEMY 1-3

Following the trend of raunchy direct-to-video sex comedies popularized in the early to mid 80s, director Rick Sloane (Hobgoblins) decided to take his own stab at the sub-genre, creating the surprise hit franchise VICE ACADEMY in 1989. Featuring the comedic exploits of undercover female vice cops who go head-to-head with everything from smut film producers to arch villainesses with plans for sexual world domination, each film mixes T&A with broad slapstick humor and hijinks.

Starring iconic scream queen Linnea Quigley (Night of the Demons) and erotic film legend Ginger Lynn Allen (Trashy Lady), the VICE ACADEMY series was a staple of late-night TV throughout the early to mid 90s. Known for their absurd plot lines and surprisingly robust and colorful visuals, Vinegar Syndrome Archive presents VICE ACADEMY 1-3 all newly restored in 2K from their original 35mm camera negatives and together in one handy collection.

Special features:

  • Region Free 2-disc Blu-ray Set
  • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from their 35mm original camera negatives
  • Newly recorded commentary tracks by director Rick Sloane for all three films
  • “Head of the Class” – an interview with co-star Linnea Quigley
  • “Going Undercover” – an interview with co-star Ginger Lynn Allen
  • Limited edition of 3,000
  • Brand new artwork by Tom Hodge of The Dude Designs
  • Double-sided poster
  • Reversible cover artwork
  • English SDH subtitles

SAVAGE DAWN

The residents of a small border town find themselves under siege by a vicious biker gang who get their kicks from unfettered brutality. When Stryker, a hardened Vietnam veteran who’s in the area visiting an old friend, learns of the goings-on, he becomes determined to put an end to the violence by any means necessary, and begins to assemble a ragtag militia…

A rough n’ tumble biker themed action film which evokes the feeling of AIP’s 60s classics, though filtered through a nudity, violence, and crazy stunt fueled Cannon-era sensibility, Simon Nuchtern’s SAVAGE DAWN stars Lance Henriksen (The Terminator, Aliens), George Kennedy (Death Ship), Karen Black (Easy Rider), and Richard Lynch (Invasion USA). Featuring heavily gelled cinematography by Gerald Fiel and a score by Pino Donaggio (Dressed to Kill), Vinegar Syndrome Archive is proud to present the world Blu-ray debut of SAVAGE DAWN, newly restored from its original 35mm camera negative.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm original camera negative
  • Commentary track with director Simon Nuchtern

  • Limited edition of 4,000
  • Double-sided poster
  • Reversible cover artwork
  • English SDH subtitles

THE CANDY SNATCHERS

Candy, a teenage heiress to a large fortune, is kidnapped by a trio of small time criminals on her way home from Catholic school. After burying her alive in an unmarked grave, the trio attempts to extort Candy’s father, a wealthy jeweler, for a hefty ransom. But, what seemed like a simple, straightforward kidnapping soon spirals out of control with violent consequences and Candy’s only hope for survival is a young mute boy who knows where she is buried.

Unflinchingly dark, violent, and merciless all the way through its notorious final shot, THE CANDY SNATCHERS remains one of the seminal pieces of early ‘70s cult filmmaking. The only theatrical feature directed by acclaimed screenwriter Guerdon Trueblood (Welcome Home Soldier Boys; Jaws 3-D), THE CANDY SNATCHERS stars Tiffany Bolling (Wicked Wicked), Ben Piazza (The Blues Brothers), Vince Martorano (Kojak), and Susan Sennett as Candy. Exquisitely shot by Robert Maxwell (Blood Mania), Vinegar Syndrome presents this key piece of drive-in cinema on Blu-ray for the very first time, newly restored in 4K from it’s camera negative.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray/DVD Combo
  • Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative
  • “A Dark Film” – an interview with director Guerdon Trueblood
  • “Snatching the Role” – an interview with actor Vince Martorano
  • “Digging up the Past” – an interview with producer Gary Adelman
  • Audio commentary with film historian Nathaniel Thompson

TAMMY AND THE T-REX

Tammy is a popular high school cheerleader whose new boyfriend, Michael, might be the love of her life. But Tammy’s jealous ex, Billy, won’t stand for anyone coming between him and ‘his’ girl, so he and his friends kidnap Michael, leaving him to be mauled by a lion in a local wildlife reserve. Comatose and at death’s door, Michael’s body is stolen from the hospital by mad scientist Dr. Wachenstein, who extracts his brain and implants it into a giant robotic T-Rex. Horrified by his predicament and new dinosaur body, he escapes from the doctor’s lab and begins brutally killing his former bullies. Meanwhile Tammy and her best friend Byron start searching for a suitable human corpse in which to re-transplant Michael’s brain…

A jaw-dropping assault on good taste from the whacked out mind of cult filmmaker Stewart Raffill (The Ice Pirates; Mac & Me), TAMMY AND THE T-REX features Denise Richards (Wild Things) in her first starring role, alongside Paul Walker (The Fast & the Furious), Terry Kiser (Weekend at Bernie’s), George “Buck” Flower (They Live), and John F. Goff (Drive-In Massacre). Primarily seen in its heavily censored PG-13 version, Vinegar Syndrome brings TAMMY AND THE T-REX to Blu-ray fully uncut for the first time on home video, with all of its gross-out gags and gratuitous decapitations, gut-rippings, and head-smashings, courtesy of special effects wizard John Carl Buechler (Mausoleum), completely intact.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray/DVD Combo
  • Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative
  • Audio commentary with director Stewart Raffill and producer Diane Kirman
  • “Blood, Brains and a Teenage T-Rex” – an interview with director Stewart Raffill
  • “A Blast from the Past” – an interview with actress Denise Richards
  • “Having the Guts” – an interview with actor Sean Whalen
  • “A Testicular Stand-Off” – an interview with actor George Pilgrim
  • Full length PG-13 cut of Tammy and the T-Rex (sourced from video)

SPOOKIES

After their car breaks down, a group of travelers find themselves stranded in a remote part of New England.  After taking shelter in a spooky old mansion, complete with a graveyard, they discover a ouija board and decide to spend the night attempting to summon some spirits. But the group soon learns that playing with the forces of black magic isn’t fun and games, and it’s not long before they’re head-to-head with all sorts of demonic creatures, shape shifters, and other forms of evil, all of whom are more than happy to pick them off in the most gruesome of ways.

Of all of the bizarre horror films made in the 1980s, SPOOKIES easily ranks among the weirdest. Produced by Michael Lee, founder of the adored UK home video distributor VIPCO, the film became a fan favorite thanks to its expertly rendered creature effects and notorious for its bizarre production history in which its original creators, co-writers/directors Brendan Faulkner & Thomas Doran and co-writer/producer Frank M. Farel, were fired and replaced by Eugenie Joseph, who added new scenes and re-edited the previously shot footage, resulting in the legendary oddity SPOOKIES has become. Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings SPOOKIES to Blu-ray for the first time, newly restored in 4K from its long lost original negative and including a brand new, feature-length ‘making of’ documentary, charting its incredible and often unbelievable production history.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray (2-disc set)
  • Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm original camera negative
  • “Twisted Tale – The Unmaking of Spookies” – a feature-length making-of documentary, including a commentary track with documentary co-directors Michael Gingold & Glen Baisley and extensive deleted scenes.
  • “VIPCO – The Untold Story” – a feature-length documentary on the notorious UK home video label, including extended interview footage with Michael Lee (founder of VIPCO) and a trailer.
  • 2015 Alamo Drafthouse screening introductions with Spookies director Thomas Doran and co-writer/producer Frank M. Farel.
  • Q&A from a 2015 Hudson Horror Show screening with actor Peter Iasillo, actor Anthony Valbiro and production assistant Tom Sciacca
  • Archival locations featurette with actor Peter Iasillo
  • Pinreel outtakes and bloopers
  • Behind the scenes still gallery
  • Theatrical trailer
  • Reversible cover artwork with new artwork by Gary Pullin

One of the most popular exploitation film franchises of the 1980s, THE ANGEL COLLECTION follows the adventures of high school student by day, teenage prostitute by night, Molly Stewart, as she takes on serial killers, mobsters, sex slaves, and more! All three films in the series are presented here in brand new restorations, and featuring revealing new interviews with their cast and crew.

ANGEL

Molly Stewart (Donna Wilkes, Jaws 2) is at the top of her class at the prestigious private high school she attends. But what her classmates and teachers don’t know is that Molly survives by working nights as a prostitute on Hollywood Blvd, in the company of her friends: a worldly transvestite, a retired cowboy movie star, and her cantankerous but kind-hearted landlady. However, her world begins to fall apart when a depraved, necrophiliac serial killer begins targeting LA’s streetwalkers. As more and more women fall victim to this vicious killer, Molly realizes that it’ll be up to her and her friends to take on the maniac before they too find themselves in his murderous sights…

Mixing brutal, slasher styled killing scenes with the sweetness of an afterschool special, Robert Vincent O’Neil’s (Blood Mania, Wonder Women) ANGEL is one of the seminal exploitation films of the early 80s. Co-starring Dick Shawn (The Producers), Rory Calhoun (Motel Hell), Susan Tyrrell (Cry Baby), Cliff Gorman (All That Jazz), and featuring beautiful cinematography by Andrew Davis (The Fugitive) along with a memorable score by Craig Safan (Cheers), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings ANGEL to Blu-ray, newly restored in 4K.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm interpositive
  • “Discovering an Angel” – an interview with co-writer/director Robert Vincent O’Neil
  • “Playing Both Sides” – an interview with actress Donna Wilkes
  • “A Chance Meeting” – an interview with co-writer Joseph Cala
  • “Angel’s Theme” – an interview with composer Craig Safan
  • Theatrical trailers for Angel, Avenging Angel and Angel III
  • Deleted scenes and outtakes (no sound)
  • Reversible cover artwork
  • English SDH subtitles

AVENGING ANGEL

Years have gone by since Molly Stewart (Betsy Russell, Saw 3-7) worked as a teenage prostitute. Now a law student at UCLA, Molly is determined to leave her past behind. But after learning that Lieutenant Andrews, the detective who helped save her life, has been murdered as a result of witnessing a mob related hit, Molly decides its time to return to her old neighborhood to avenge his death. With the help of her surviving friends, Molly quickly finds herself pitted against underworld and mob figures who might be a lot harder to defeat than she’s bargained for…

The second film in the Angel series, Robert Vincent O’Neil’s AVENGING ANGEL is a fast paced, Cannon-esque action-thriller. Featuring Susan Tyrrell and Rory Calhoun reprising their roles, alongside Ossie Davis (Do the Right Thing) and Robert F. Lyons (Death Wish 2), and photographed by Peter Lyons Collister (The Amityville Horror), Vinegar Syndrome presents AVENGING ANGEL on Blu-ray, from a brand new 2K restoration.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm interpositive
  • An interview with co-writer/director Robert Vincent O’Neil and co-writer Joseph Cala
  • An interview with actress Betsy Russell
  • Theatrical trailers for Angel, Avenging Angel and Angel III
  • Reversible cover artwork
  • English SDH subtitles

ANGEL III

Molly Stewart (Mitzi Kapture) is now a successful freelance photographer and is living in New York. After seeing a familiar woman at an art gallery, Molly begins to suspect that she might be, in fact, her long missing mother. Following her trail to Los Angeles, Molly confronts the woman who confesses to being her mother, also telling her that she has a younger sister who’s in danger of being sold into sex slavery. Despite her mother’s request she go home, Molly is determined to help rescue her sister, but not long after her mother is murdered and Molly finds herself in the center of a major crime syndicate who will stop at nothing to execute their diabolical plans.

Directed by notorious exploitation auteur Tom DeSimone (Hell Night, Chatterbox) ANGEL III: THE FINAL CHAPTER was the last official entry in the franchise. Sleazier and more outrageous than its predecessors, ANGEL III co-stars Richard Roundtree and features cinematography by Andy Sedaris’ regular DP, Howard Wexler. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the world Blu-ray debut of this 80s trash classic in a brand new restoration from its original negative.

Special features:

  • Region Free Blu-ray
  • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm original camera negative
  • Audio commentary with writer/director Tom DeSimone, moderated by David Decoteau of RapidHeart.tv
  • Stills gallery

If you want to bulk up your horror movie collection, you’ll probably want to hit up Best Buy later this week, as they’ve got a ton of DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD releases for really great prices on Black Friday. The great thing about Best Buy is that their Black Friday ad shows *all* of the titles that’ll be on sale, which is something that Walmart and Target do not do.

In the Black Friday ads for Walmart and Target, you’ll find only small selections of their sale titles, with many other titles not revealed unless/until you go into your local store on Black Friday. This means that we have no way of putting together complete lists for the two stores, but we did peruse both ads to at least put together small selections of what they’ll have.

Here’s what you can expect…

WALMART

  • Kong: Skull Island, DVD – $1.96
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, DVD – $1.96
  • The Meg, DVD – $3.96
  • IT (2017), DVD – $3.96
  • Halloween (2018), DVD – $3.96
  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Blu-ray – $5.96
  • Pet Sematary (2019), Blu-ray – $5.96
  • Venom, 4K Ultra HD – $7.96
  • IT (2017), 4K Ultra HD – $7.96

TARGET

  • Goosebumps 2, DVD – $4
  • Hotel Transylvania 3, DVD – $4
  • Venom, Blu-ray – $6
  • Annabelle Comes Home, Blu-ray – $9
  • Us, Blu-ray – $9
  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Blu-ray – $9
  • Venom, 4K Ultra HD – $9
  • The Walking Dead: Season 9, DVD – $10
  • True Detective: Season 3, DVD – $10
  • Supernatural: Season 14, DVD – $10

Again, both Walmart and Target will have many more titles for sale on Black Friday (likely, a handful of them horror), so be sure to check both stores to see what else they’ve got!

This Black Friday, shop ‘til you drop… DEAD!

Christmas day means an all-day marathon of A Christmas Story, and this year thanks to Shout! Factory TV, Black Friday ushers in an all-day marathon of 1986’s Chopping Mall!

“For 24 hours only at Park Plaza Mall, the savings are hot, the sales are electrifying, and deals are so good your head will explode!”

The Black Friday marathon begins Friday, November 29 at 12 a.m. PT and continues for 24 hours. The livestream can be viewed on http://www.ShoutFactoryTV.com and Shout! Factory TV’s Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Android apps; and the following digital streaming platforms: Twitch, Samsung TV Plus, Xumo, and STIRR.

In director Jim Wynorski‘s Chopping Mall, “Eight teenagers are trapped after hours in a high-tech shopping mall and pursued by three murderous security robots out of control in Chopping Mall, where shopping costs more than an arm and a leg.”

Black Friday is more than just the day after Thanksgiving or an unofficial holiday begging for its own 80s style slasher. No, Black Friday is a huge boon for retailers. In fact, the day got its name (supposedly) for being when stores would go from profits “in the red” to “in the black”. Over the years, it’s also become a massive cluster-fuck of rabid shoppers and disgruntled teenage employees who’d rather be somewhere downing eggnog. More than a few drops of blood seem to get shed annually as well. See? SLASHER – MOVIE. Sometimes, there are amazing deals to be found on the day, but it’s hard to know where to look. Not every store releases their ad paper in advance. For Black Friday 2018, I’m going to try and ease some that stress for you, fiends. I’ve scoured the internet to try and find the best deals, specials, and must have gifts for any horror obsessive this Pagan holiday season (Google it).

Mondo

Mondo has been churning out collectible goodies for years now. Based out of Austin, the company whose origins began as a t-shirt shop tucked away in the unused ticket booth of the Alamo Drafthouse, quickly found their true calling with the creation of gig-style posters to help promote various screenings of classic flicks. Now a new Mondo poster is met with great fanfare and fervent purchasing from their fans. Of course, the brand has extended beyond shirts and posters to include enamel pins, vinyl soundtracks, and even a brand spankingly new and awesome looking board game.

The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31
The Thing Mondo Board Game

If you missed out on the Mondo Exclusive Edition of this board game, fear not, a standard edition is already available through retailers (though the website lists the purchase as a “pre-order” currently).  The gameplay sounds like a more horror leaning version of the classic Clue. Based on John Carpenter’s The Thing, players must navigate the alien-infested confines of Outpost 31 while attempting to decipher who among them has been taken over by the shapeshifting monstrosity. Retails for $60

The Art of Mondo

Mondo posters can be pricey, especially if you attempt to purchase from a third party seller after a specific print has sold out. That said, a majority of their pieces are works of art in every aspect of the word and deserve to be treated as such. If you happen to be missing a piece from your collection that’s long out of print, The Art of Mondo is your best bet. I was lucky enough to receive a copy, and I’ve got to say it’s genuinely a beauty to behold. Over 300 pages of large, glossy poster art collected chronologically is a delight to flip through. Follow along as the art of Mondo evolves from the simple designs to help promote a film and music festival to licensed and fully realized works that celebrate your favorite cinema classics. The book is currently on sale at Amazon for only $50.72, though a special Deluxe Edition will be released on Black Friday!

Last but not least, in conjunction with Death Waltz Records you can nab Box of Souls – A Nightmare on Elm Street 8XLP Box Set. The set contains the original soundtracks from each of the 8 films from the series. The packaging makes this a piece well worth display in your collection, resembling Freddy’s bare chest with the faces of fallen souls by the hand of the nightmare demon screaming to break free.

Box Of Sould Black Friday

While Mondo typically holds a sale on archived prints for Black Friday, this year their aim instead will be releasing new items. Of note for BD readers will be a Paranorman enamel pin.

Apparel

Cavity Colors

All “Cyber Hell” will break loose this Thursday at 5 PM EST! That’s because the appropriately christened company Cavity Colors will be launching their massive annual event, Cyber Hell. Everything storewide will be on sale between 35% – 75% off. The sale will continue through to Monday at 11:59 PM, though, patrons can save a little by shopping during the first 24 hours. Shipping in the US will be free for the first day.

There will be a number of enamel pin restocks including several from the Evil Dead collection as well as leftover stock from certain limited releases, including our very own Bloody Disgusting tee…which I don’t even have one yet! To grab these you will likely need to act fast as stock and size options are low.

Fright Rags

Right now on the Fright Rags homepage, a banner at the top reveals a countdown with the the line “Our biggest sale of the year is coming!” From Creepshow, Trick ‘r Treat, and even Goosebumps, Fright Rags has something special for every horror fanatic on you Holiday shopping list. I’ve been informed that all socks, pins, and box sets will be sold 50% off come Black Friday. While it doesn’t seem like all the shirts sitewide will carry the steep discount, I was promised that a “ton” of them will be half off. You’ll even be able to nab a “Tee of Mystery” for only nine buckaroos.

Personally, my eyes are locked in on the “Vintage Halloween Collection”  which features Samhain boogeymen heavy-hitters Sam and Michael in retro styled tees. There’s also the Monstervision shirts, because who wouldn’t want Joe Bob Briggs’s mug plastered across your chest?

Hopefully, I’ve given you a few good gift ideas, whether those special ones in your life are art lovers or simply never leave the house in anything other than jeans and a t-shirt. Still, if you’re left with a few more names on your list – maybe this group will point you in the right direction.

Horror Candles

Every year around this time I get into a craftsy, Martha Stewarty mood. It begins simple enough with cooking around Halloween as I tear through as many pumpkin recipes as I possibly can. By the time Christmas has come and gone my kitchen looks like a Hobby Lobby has imploded in on itself. I make candles for gifts. Mostly they’re for those I appreciate but don’t feel like spending any real money on. That’s not to take away from the gift itself as candles are a good deal of work and the process of crafting them can be somewhat therapeutic. I even concoct the aromas and names based off a number of horror films. “Norma” smells like fresh baked cookies, “Swamp Thing” like moss and patchouli, and “Pumkinhead” smells like the rotten sweetness of pumpkin pie with hints of dirt. All this to say, I have no Etsy shop…yet. But, I truly believe candles can make a perfect gift for a horror fan. Who doesn’t like their shit to smell nice? Even better if you can tie them into the receivers own interests. Below are a couple I was able to track down online.

Cavity Candles

Again, our friends at Cavity Colors come through! Their candles are all hand-poured, 100% soy wax (which means they won’t emit carbon soot like regular paraffin candles). Bonus, each jar candle comes with a colorful decorative label that perfectly matches with the Cavity Color brand. Catch them in “Mystery Scent”, “Re-agent” and more! Hopefully, these won’t be left out of the sale this year.

Horror Decor

The site, Horror Decor, offers a wide array of oddball homegoods for lovers of the macabre. You can easily marry your obsessions with design and decay by clicking through their offerings. On the flickering flame front, they have “An Offering to Krampus” scented candle and wax melt that promises a ” blend of mistletoe, frankincense, myrrh, and a subtle hint of pine.” The idea of a pleasant fragrance with the added benefit of warding off Christmas’s most evil demonic force is super, but even cooler are these VHS wax melts complete with “Be Kind, Rewind” smiley faces! The cassettes smell like soda while the smileys contain the buttery aroma of popcorn. Pop these in your wax warmer and throw in a Vinegar Syndrome blu and prepare to get whisked away to your childhood evenings spent at the video store.

At the end of the day, horror is big business and retailers have finally started to take notice. Even Wal-Mart carries a seasonal t-shirt with Freddy and Jason chilling by the Christmas Tree! So, no matter how you plan to spend your Black Friday, rest easy knowing your loved ones have plenty of options when it comes to scrambling to find a gift just right for you. And as our very own frequent commenter Creepshow has pointed out, if you don’t like it – there’s always those trusty gift receipts.

Black Friday is more than just the day after Thanksgiving or an unofficial holiday begging for its own 80s style slasher. No, Black Friday is a huge boon for retailers. In fact, the day got it’s name (supposedly) for being when stores would go from profits “in the red” to “in the black”. Over the years, it’s also become a massive cluster-fuck of rabid shoppers and disgruntled teenage employees who’d rather be somewhere downing eggnog. Video Games

Honestly, I’m not much of a gamer. The last console I owned was a Sega Saturn (Nights into Dreams was badass). Nonetheless, I know that gaming is an expensive hobby. Prices for the newest consoles seem to always be on the rise. Games that may only offer a few hours of gameplay cost $50 – $60. So, when a sale comes around, it’s certainly worth taking note of. Below are some excellent deals on horror games from the major retailers as well as a couple indies that caught my eye.

Indie Releases

Black Friday Choppig List

Home Sweet Home ($16.99 on Steam) –

“Tim’s life has drastically changed since his wife disappeared mysteriously. In one night, after suffering from the sorrow for a long time, he woke up in an unknown place instead of his house. While trying to escape from this place, he was hunted by a rancorous female spirit. Can he survive? Is this place actually his house? Does it relate to the disappearance of his wife? Some dark sinister secret is hidden inside this house, and it won’t be a place of happiness as it used to be any longer.” – Synopsis from Steam

No, this has nothing to do with the NES game Sweet Home that became the impetus for the entire Resident Evil franchise, spawning its own amazingly over the top film of the same name (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa of Pulse). It also has nothing to do with that Thanksgiving slasher flick starring the “Body by Jake” guy. This Home Sweet Home is a brand new paranormal spookfest from Taiwan that is deeply steeped in the culture’s myths and folklore. Even better? The game offers VR support, and gameplay is varied from stealth, puzzle solving, and outright horrific onslaughts. From quiet atmospheric dread, beautifully rendered environs, zombies, and bizarre creatures – I might actually give this one a try myself.

Hello Neighbor ($29.99 Pre-purchase on Steam/or Pre-order for Xbox One at Target)

“Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor’s house to figure out what horrible secrets he’s hiding in the basement. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Really enjoying climbing through that backyard window? Expect a bear trap there. Sneaking through the front door? There’ll be cameras there soon. Trying to escape? The Neighbor will find a shortcut and catch you. ” – Synopsis from Steam

From dev Dynamic Pixels comes a game that’s been available in various builds and demos for quite some time. The full game will release on December 8th. In Hello Neighbor, the objective is simple, break into your neighbor’s house and figure out just what exactly he’s up to. The game’s design is reminiscent of a number of Pixar films…only something seems off here. The low-key mysteries of the neighbor have been captivating players for almost two years. Videos litter YouTube of players who’ve combed over miniscule details in an attempt to piece the story’s puzzle together. Just what is hiding in the neighbor’s excessively protected basement? In just a couple short weeks we can finally find out (or just Google the spoilery video of the ending online).

Target

Chopping List Black Friday Games

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard ($15) – This one is a doorbuster, so you’re going to need to be there when doors open at 6 PM on Thanksgiving night. For less than twenty bucks, though, this one might be worth it. Target’s ad shows this for sale for PS4, but it’s likely the sale extends across platforms.

The Evil Within 2 ($29.99) – Also a doorbuster and also PS4.

Wal-mart

Black Friday Walmart Games

Mortal Kombat X ($12) – Rip off heads for only $12 on any platform!

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombie Chronicles ($35) – This also a multi-platform deal.

Best Buy

Black Friday Chopping List

If you have more than a couple names to check off your shopping list, Best Buy is certainly where it’s at. The list of games they have on sale is extensive and below are just a few of the horror centric titles I came across.

Bioshock: The Collection  ($15) – Multi-platform

Doom ($15) – Multi-platform

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus ($25) – Multi-platform

Bloodborne ($15) – PS4 only

The Last of Us: Remastered ($15) – PS4

Until Dawn ($15) – PS4

At the time of this writing GameStop had not yet released their Black Friday deals.

Blu-ray and DVD

I’m sure any one of us could wake up at the butt-crack of dawn the day after Thanksgiving, perhaps slightly hung over, and waltz ourselves to the local big box store to snap up whatever random DVDs they have on sale for five bucks. But the real collectors would likely prefer something from the various horror and boutique labels that don’t often wind up on the store shelves. That’s right, most of the titles on this list can be purchased from the comforts of your own bed. Rest off that pounding headache and get all your shopping done. Easy-peasy. For those bargain hunters out there, I’ve included a couple of jewels that might warrant a trek outside the confines of your own home.

Vinegar Syndrome

The gang over at Vinegar Syndrome knows how to handle Black Friday!  To officially kickoff the gift giving madness, they’ll be releasing two brand new titles on November 24th. What are they? I don’t know! They’re currently listed as “Secret Black Friday Horror [Blu-ray/DVD Combo] *Limited Edition* #1 and #2”. Ryan from VS promised that both films are titles that have been highly requested over the years. They’re keeping the lid tight on this one, but I can promise I’ll likely be first in line to swoop them up…whatever they are.

VS Black Friday

In addition to the mystery discs, VS’s demented catalogue will be steeply discounted, with most titles shipping out at 50% off! Some of their more recent releases worth dropping in your cart:

Liquid Sky – Also releasing on Black Friday with a limited edition “dayglo ink” cover. Sex, drugs, and aliens! You’ll be able to order on the 24th here.

Bloodbeat – This is the perfect title for the holidays. A supernatural samurai goes on a killing spree in the cheddar capital of the world, Wisconsin! AND IT TAKES PLACE AT CHRISTMAS! What more could you possibly want? Watch for a full review of this one soon. Purchase here.

Demon Wind – This is a title I wrote about in one of my very first articles here at BD. It’s the perfect blend of over the top practical effects, Evil Dead style shenanigans, and magicians – just because. I received my copy the other night (I was too impatient to wait for the sale), but you should totally snap it up come the 24th at a discounted price with a limited lenticular cover just like the VHS olden days. Purchase here.

The Corpse Grinders – A drive-in movie classic about flesh-eating kitty-cats? This Ted V. Mikel’s joint is the perfect gift for that horror fan in you life who craves the good ol’ days of double bills, gas fumes, and gettin’ busy in the backseat. Pick it up here.

 Other Blu-ray Buys

I sniffed around with various different labels and retailers, and was told by many there were “no plans” for Black Friday blowouts. Of course, that’s not to say they won’t spring a fast one come the day and offer some sort of discount code or special offer. However, sale or no sale – the below items would be greeted with a huge grin by almost any genre fan if they were to find them in their stocking.

Silent Night, Deadly Night – The Santa Claus slasher that is a tradition in my home every Christmas season is finally getting the release it deserves thanks to the fine fiends at Scream Factory. After dealing with a features-less, grimy and washed out transfer for so long, we’re getting a new 4k scan of the original negative along with a whole sleigh full of extras. The disc itself is currently on sale at Amazon for only $17.99, or you can spring for the limited Deluxe edition at Scream Factory’s own website. That beauty is currently going for $64.93 (feel free to drop it in my stocking, Santa). Street date for this is December 5th.

Suspiria – Dario Argento’s oft-regarded masterpiece is finally coming to blu after years of waiting. Exactly when is the disc going to drop? We’re still not sure. We do know that Synapse, who has had an amazing track record with other Argento releases, has taken their time for good reason. Suspiria is treasured in great part to its overwhelming visuals, and the word is the new transfer is gobsmackingly good. Currently the limited edition set is available for pre-order on Synapse’s website. There, the release date is still said to be sometime before the end of the year, but nothing is set in stone as of yet. Nonetheless, snap this one up before it’s gone.

The Amicus Collection – Severin has been churning out one surprise after the other lately. With a trio of Amicus productions in one neat box set complete with jam packed bonus disc, they’ve stepped into a new league of distribution. The box set includes the studio’s best anthology, Asylum, as well as the creepy gothic thriller And Now the Screaming Starts! and werewolf mystery The Beast Must Die! The set will be released on December 5th, but you can pre-order now at Severin’s website (it’s actually cheaper there than on Amazon right now) for only $54.99

Etoile – This Italian thriller is one I’ve wanted to check out for quite some time, but this flick has been mega rare to come by. Thankfully, Scorpion Releasing and Code Red have dusted it off are giving it back to the world. Starring Jennifer Connelly in a plot that sounds like Suspiria meets Black Swan, Etoile is available now for purchase except for in the US. 🙁 No worries. You can buy it at Diabolik DVD as early as December 9th! While you’re there, you might as well pre-order Dario Argento’s Opera as well.

Bargain Buys

Saw: The Complete Movie Collection – For only $7.50 you can grab the entire collection (sans Jigsaw, of course) at Wal-Mart.

Alex Ross Art Steelbooks – From Frankenstein, Dracula, and Creature from the Black Lagoon, Best Buy exclusively has a collection of Universal Monster steelbooks on sale from just $15.99

Black Friday is fast approaching, and that means that stores everywhere will be flooded with people looking for the best deals! We’ve taken the liberty of seeking out the best movie* deals from major retailers and sharing them with you! Unfortunately most retailers don’t release all of their deals in their paper ads (and in the case of Wal-Mart, you can barely see which movies are discounted). Nevertheless, we tried to sort through the major retailers’ Black Friday ads and decided to share our findings with all of you. You don’t want to miss out!

*All movies listed below are in Blu-Ray format.

AMAZON

Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t really post their Black Friday deals ahead of time, but here are the best horror movie deals the site is offering at the time of this writing (Amazon changes prices constantly so some of these may already be out of date). I use Blu-Ray.com as my source since it syncs up with Amazon in real time and you can sort deals by genre (which is incredibly useful).

$5.00 or Less

Pitch Black  – $5.00

Friday the 13th (1980) – $5.00

$10.00 or Less

Crimson Peak – $6.96

The Purge: Anarchy – $6.96

The Purge: Election Year – $6.99

Predator Triple Feature – $9.99

$15.00 or Less

Jurassic World 3D – $13.49

Krampus – $12.96

$20.00 or Less

Jack Frost – $17.99 (I’m not sure why you would pay that much for this film, but apparently it’s a steal.)

Alien Anthology – $19.99

Great Deals

Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection – $45.00

Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box – $78.99

Again, some of these may already be out of date, but you can keep up to date on the best horror Blu-Ray deals here and the lowest price horror Blu-Rays here. Blu-Ray.com is a godsend for movie buffs everywhere.

One of the many things that the US does that the rest of the world seemingly scratches their heads at is our yearly tradition of “Black Friday”, the day when stores across the country have expanded hours so as to draw in crowds of people for “unbelievable deals”. It often results in multiple injuries and there are even cases where people have tried trying to save, quite literally, just a few bucks.

News stations love showing videos of these savings-obsessed throngs, who often pour into a store like a flash flood, devastating everything in their wake. It’s something that looks a great deal like zombies as they descend upon the living.

I’m not the only one who thinks this. In fact, YouTube user Andrew Kasch had very much the same idea, as evidenced by the fantastic video he edited together that mashes scenes from zombie films with actual Black Friday footage. It’s pretty astonishing how well reality and fiction blend together, often times appearing nearly indistinguishable from each other.

If you went out on Black Friday and braved the long lines, the cold weather, and the risk of being trampled to death or, at the very least, seriously injured in a stampede, tell us what you got! Get any good scores? Did you manage to avoid getting bit?

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! As many of you probably already know, that means Black Friday is right around the corner. While stores aren’t necessarily as packed as they used to be thanks to online deals and events like Cyber Monday, Black Friday is nonetheless a very stressful and busy day for some people. There are just so many deals out there! I don’t know about any of you, but I choose to stay out of the brick-and-mortar stores and stick to online shopping in my pajamas at my home. Here is a list of some of the must-have horror toys that we think you should consider purchasing this Black Friday!

Penny Dreadful CLUE (Penny Dreadful)

If you’ve never watched Penny Dreadful, you’re really missing out, but that’s an argument for another post. Showtime has gifted us with a Penny Dreadful game of Clue, and it couldn’t be more glorious. You know how Monopoly has a bunch of different editions themed after different movies, shows and themes? Parker Bros. should really do that with Clue and horror movies. They’ve got a Simpsons edition and even a Big Bang Theory edition, but it would probably boost sales put out more horror-themed editions.

From Showtime:

Mina Murray has been killed and the murderer remains at large– lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. In this classic mystery game of CLUE: Penny Dreadful, it’s up to you to uncover the clues and find out WHO killed Mina, WHERE they killed her, and with WHAT weapon. Was it Dorian Gray with a Syringe at the London Zoo? Or was it Vanessa Ives in Ferdinand Lyle’s Mansion with Arsenic? 6 Suspects: Vanessa Ives, Sir Malcolm Murray, Dorian Gray, Brona Croft, Ethan Chandler and Victor Frankenstein Custom Sculpted Weapons: Pistol, Syringe, Tarot Cards, Arsenic, Handkerchief, and Sword Cane Beautifully illustrated game board represents locations from the show set in 1891 London Movers & Personality Cards Intrigue Cards – 24 card deck comprised of 16 action cards and 8 tarot cards Clue Sheet & Envelope Instructions

Black Friday

Betrayal at House On the Hill

If you’ve got an hour to spare and at least two friends nearby, play this game. There are fifty different ways the game can play out and they all involve some truly horrific events. It’s a must-have party game for any horror fan.

From the Manufacturer:

The creak of footsteps on the stairs, the smell of something foul and dead, the feel of something crawling down your back – this and more can be found in the exciting refresh of the Avalon Hill favorite Betrayal at House on the Hill. This fun and suspenseful game is a new experience almost every time you play – you and your friends explore “that creepy old place on the hill” until enough mystic misadventures happen that one of the players turns on all of the others. Hours of fun for all your friends and family. Designed for 3–6 players aged 12 and up, this board game features multiple scenarios, a different lay-out with every game, and enough chills to freeze the heart of any horror fan.

Black Friday

Bat Gremlin (Gremlins 2: The New Batch)

This guy won’t be in stock on Amazon until March, so now is your chance to pre-order it before they sell out!

From NECA:

One of the most requested Gremlins figures of all time is finally here! Our latest deluxe action figure from Gremlins 2: The New Batch is the spectacular Bat Gremlin, with a massive wingspan of nearly 18 inches. This detailed re-creation of the puppet seen in Gremlins 2 is fully articulated, including hinged ears, hinged jaw, and jointed arms that allow the wings to spread open and fold closed! At approximately 6 inches tall, it’s perfectly in scale with our previous Gremlins action figures, too. Comes with a “flight” display stand.

Black Friday

Freddy Krueger Potato Head (A Nightmare On Elm Street)

If you’re a horror fan with kids, then this is the perfect present for them! They even have a Jason one. Who says you can’t start ’em early?

Black Friday

Life-Size Xenomorph Egg (Alien)

This one is a real steal at only $600 on Amazon! In all seriousness though, it’s a pretty nifty toy. If you’ve got the cash, this would make for a fantastic addition to your home décor.

From NECA:

Transform any room into a deadly alien breeding ground with this Life Size Xenomorph Egg — complete with its own eerie lighting and life size facehugger! As seen in the 1986 horror classic Aliens, this full-sized replica stands almost 36” tall, and articulated flaps with a wire armature allow you to actually open the top folds of the egg. The included full-size facehugger has a bendable tail, so you can pose it anywhere… waiting to drop on unsuspecting prey from overhead, or simply lurking inside the egg. The Life Size Xenomorph Egg is made of detailed, hand-painted foam and stands on its own. A switch activates the LED lights inside the base to create a menacing, otherworldly glow effect. Requires 3 AAA batteries, not included.

Black Friday Black Friday

Friday the 13th 25th Anniversary Boxed Set (Friday the 13th)

This guy is about 10 years old, so he’s a little pricey. You can buy him on Amazon though. The set comes with sack-head Jason from Friday the 13th Part 2, along with Mrs. Voorhees and her severed head.

Black Friday

8-Bit Jason (Friday the 13th)

Once upon a time, there was a Friday the 13th video game, and it was terrible. This action figure isn’t terrible though!

From Toys on Fire:

Based on his appearance in the classic Friday the 13th video game, released in 1989 for the popular 8-bit home console, Jason stands 7″ and has over 25 points of articulation for great poses. The figure comes with machete, axe, harpoon gun and removable mask, plus new mother’s head accessory. New paint deco reproduces the game’s pixilated look. And not only does the window box packaging re-create the look and feel of the classic video game cartridge box, lift the front flap and it plays music from the game, too!

Black Friday

Jason Mug (Friday the 13th)

This mug is a magic mug. It gets a picture as it gets hotter! It makes for a perfect gift for any coffee (or tea) drinkers out there!

From Entertainment Earth:

Prepare for the day everyone fears…with a nice, warm cup of coffee. This 11 oz. Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees Morphing Mug transforms from black to full color as hot liquid is added! Watch as the heat-activated process reveals a hidden image of Jason in vivid colors. Hand wash only. Not safe for dishwasher or microwave. Measures approximately 3 3/4-inches tall x 3 1/8-inches in diameter.

Black Friday

Shaun and Ed (Shaun of the Dead)

These adorable figurines will make an excellent addition to your horror-comedy shelf. Wait, you don’t have one of those? Well time to make one, and what better way to start with these guys?

Black Friday Black Friday

Freddy Krueger Syringe Glove (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors)

Freddy’s razor glove gets all the attention, but there was a time when he turned his razor hands into syringes, and it was awesome. Now you can get the replica of that glove and show up your friends who dressed as mere regular ol’ Freddy Kruegers on Halloween!

From Entertainment Earth:

  • Wear the syringe glove from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors!
  • Features articulated fingers and syringes that light-up in blue.
  • Makes for a great addition to your Freddy Halloween costume!

From A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, it’s the Nightmare on Elm Street Freddy Krueger Syringe Glove! This glove inspired by the horror movie features copper metallic articulated fingers and plastic syringes that light up in blue. The plastic glove features a copper metallic paint deco. Whether you want to use these as part of a Halloween costume or as display at home, you’ll love the realistic replication of the Nightmare on Elm Street Freddy Krueger Syringe Glove! Requires 3x “AG13/LR44” batteries (included). Ages 17 and up.

Black Friday

Demon Sam Statue (Trick ‘r Treat)

He walks! He stalks! He’s also adorable! Buy little Sam to make an excellent desk decoration for anyone’s desk.

From Entertainment Earth:

Decorate your desk at work or home with the Trick ‘r Treat Sam Animated Table Top Statue. This 8-inch tall plush statue of the burlap-sack-wearing Sam actually walks and plays music and audio taken from the horror movie Trick ‘r Treat! Just press the button on his left foot and watch him go! The exterior of the statue is plush. Ages 17 and up.

Here is a list of some of the must-have horror albums that we think you should consider purchasing this Black Friday!

It Follows

Let’s just get this out of the way right now: It Follows has one of the best horror soundtracks in recent memory. Reminiscent of the synth scores from the 70s and 80s, Disasterpeace’s score is a brilliant score that has earned its place in horror movie history with the other greats like the scores from Halloween and Suspiria.

Black Friday

John Carpenter’s Lost Themes

John Carpenter returned to us this year not in film, but in the form of this amazing collection of original piece of music that harkens back to the scores for Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13 and many others. Made in collaboration with his son Cody and composer Daniel Davies, it’s a return to form for the director who really needed a comeback.

johncarpenterlostthemes

Goblin Rebirth

Our own Jonathan Barkan gave this album a glowing review back in July, calling it a “breath of fresh decaying, rotten air that we so richly deserve.” Definitely give it a listen!

Black Friday

Army of Darkness

The soundtrack of the third installment in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead trilogy arguably has the most memorable score out of all the films in the franchise (bold statement, I know), and it comes to life in this outstanding vinyl edition.

Black Friday

Cooties

Cooties the film didn’t fully live up to its potential, but it did have a pretty fun (and goofy soundtrack). If anything, this vinyl is worth getting just for the minimal (but fantastic) cover art.

Black Friday

House of the Devil

An oldie but a goodie, the soundtrack to The House of the Devil is very much like that of the soundtrack for It Follows in that it harkens back to the synth scores of the horror films from the 70s and 80s. It’s all one big nostalgia trip and it’s a total blast.

Black Friday

Trick ‘r Treat

Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean that you can’t still listen to Trick ‘r Treat’s frivolous and light-hearted score on vinyl. Give yourself the best gift this Black Friday and check out Douglas Pipes’ extremely fun score.

Horror has been trendy with television nowadays, so here is a list of some of the must-have horror TV shows that we think you should consider purchasing this Black Friday! For the cheapest prices, check out this page on BluRay.com. They show you the best Blu-Ray deals in real time.

Serial Killers

Bates Motel

What better way to prepare for the upcoming fourth (and fifth!) season of the weirdest mother/son duo in cinema history? Watch season three!

Black Friday

Hannibal

We must all mourn the loss of one of televisions greatest shows in decades (and that’s no hyperbole), but at least we were able to get three fantastic seasons out of it. If you have yet to see it, go ahead and purchase Bryan Fuller’s masterful conclusion to his brilliant series.

Black Friday

Twin Peaks

Okay, Twin Peaks is more about a demonic entity named Bob, but he is a serial killer. If you, like myself, missed Twin Peaks during its original run (I was just 1 when it premiered in 1990), now’s your chance to catch up before the reboot/sequel/limited series hits in 2017!

There are just so many deals to pass up! I don’t know about any of you, but I choose to stay out of the brick-and-mortar stores and stick to online shopping in my pajamas at my home. With that being said, here is a list of some of the must-have horror (or in some cases, horror-ish) video games that we think you should consider purchasing this Black Friday.

Video games are an expensive investment, so while some of the games on this list came out earlier this year (one of them even came out late last year), this list will hopefully serve to remind you of some of the games you skipped out on.

Multi-Platform

Fallout 4

The post-apocalyptic series returns this year with Fallout 4, and apparently everyone took off work and stopped looking at porn to play it. I’ve yet to play the game, but it looks fantastic and will be the one game that I snatch up on Friday.

Black Friday

Resident Evil Revelations 2

Resident Evil Revelations was a worthy, if flawed, entry into the Resident Evil series. Revelations 2 is slightly better, and sees the return of Claire Redfield and the introduction of Moira Burton, Barry Burton’s daughter. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s a fun return to the franchise’s horror roots.

Black Friday

Batman: Arkham Knight

Sure, some people were disappointed with the overabundance of the Batmobile in the game, but like it or not, Batman: Arkham Knight is a fantastic game, and if it doesn’t live up to the remarkably high expectations people set for it, that is no fault of the game’s (or Rocksteady’s). Since it’s been out since June (unless you are the unfortunate owner of a PC), there’s a fairly good chance it might see a decent price drop on Black Friday.

Black Friday

Mortal Kombat X

Do I need to say anything about this game? It’s fantastic, and it’s got Jason Voorhees as a playable character. If you don’t already own it, pick it up this week. That’s an order.

Here is a list of some of the must-have horror Blu-Rays that we think you should consider purchasing this Black Friday! For the cheapest prices, check out this page on BluRay.com. They show you the best Blu-Ray deals in real time. I have linked to each film’s Amazon listing as well.

Scream Factory! Releases

Army of Darkness

Man, Scream Factory really knows how to treat us horror fans. This Blu-Ray of Army of Darkness is about six years overdue since the underwhelming first edition we received back in 2009, and it’s a glorious thing. You will definitely want to add this to your collection this Black Friday.

Black Friday

The Babadook

What some people deemed one of the best films of the year is also one of the prettiest Blu-Rays of the year. This Blu-Ray with deluxe packaging opens up just like the book in the movie. Pop-up and everything! Even if you were disappointed in the film, that’s should be enough of a selling point.

Black Friday

Dog Soldiers

Neil Marshall’s fantastic werewolf film finally got a decent Blu-Ray release this year thanks to Scream Factory! Before he directed The Descent, he made this fun roller coaster ride of a film.

Black Friday

The People Under the Stairs

I watched this film for the first time this year after I had heard of Wes Craven’s passing, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a helluva lot of fun and quite funny, no matter what some people think. Scream Factory did the film justice this year with this outstanding Blu-Ray release that’s worth purchasing for Craven’s commentary track alone.

Black Friday

Shocker

Another Wes Craven film, but this one is not as loved as his other films. Shocker gets a great Blu-Ray treatment though with loads of special features. Plus, you gotta love the cover art that Scream Factory has for most of their releases.

Black Friday is a sickness, and you should be all ashamed to be taking a part in it, or for knowing someone who is. Now with that said, let’s see how much extra debt this year has in store for us. If you don’t max out two of your credit cards, you aren’t trying hard enough. I really hope Best Buy is selling an HDTV that’s big and cheap enough for me to worthy of blindly trampling an elderly couple so I can be the first to get one.

Video Game Deals

First up are some video game deals you should really considering checking out.

Looking for a cheap co-op game you can play over the holidays? Assuming you own a PlayStation, I recommend stopping by the PlayStation Store by Dec 1 to take advantage of their epic co-op themed sale. The discounts are solid, but they’re even solid-er (deal with it) if you’re a PS Plus subscriber. Drop $100 and you’ll get $15 back.

The PlayStation Store’s Flash Sales are also in full effect, you can follow those right here.

Sony fans aren’t the only ones who are getting some love. Microsoft is holding their own sale on the Xbox Live store, also from now until Dec 1. We have The Evil Within and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor for $29.99, Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Game Season One and Two bundle for $24.99, or you can grab each season individually for $14.99.

From now until Dec 2, Steam’s Exploration Sale currently has Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor for $34.99, The Evil Within for $20.39, Left 4 Dead 2 for $9.99, DayZ for $29.74, The Forest for $12.74, Alien: Isolation for $37.49, Five Nights at Freddy’s for $2.49, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 for $6.39, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter for $15.99, Dead Island for $9.99, Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Game Season Two for $16.74, along with a couple thousand more.

It’s also worth mentioning that Amazon is offering sales on two of the year’s biggest horror releases, The Evil Within (PS4, Xbox One) for $29.99 and Alien: Isolation (PS4, Xbox One) for $29.99 (PS4)/$24.99 (Xbox One), and while Walmart’s offering isn’t quite as enticing, we still have The Evil Within and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition, among others, for $35 each.

Retailer juggernaut GameStop has a selection of titles to choose from with discounts reaching up to 50%.

Console Deals

If you’re looking for a console to play all these new games on, here are a few good deals to consider.

500 GB PS4 w/GTA V and The Last of Us: Remastered for $399.99 — GameStop, Best Buy

500 GB PS4 w/GTA V and The Last of Us: Remastered or Lego Batman 3 and LittleBigPlanet 3 for $399.99 — Toys ‘r’ Us

500 GB Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity Bundle for $329.99 — GameStop, Amazon

Buy a 500 GB Xbox One through the Microsoft Store by Nov 29 and you’ll save $70, plus you can take home either Forza Motorsport 5, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare or or Titanfall for free.

It’s that time of year when people line up outside of department stores to maul each other while the poor bastards working in retail wish they were home with their families. Tis the season for Black motherfucking Friday.

My biggest conundrum is that while I loathe the barrage of sales-happy lunatics this time of year, I also love spending dough. Especially on myself (c’mon, we’re all friends here, let’s be honest). Luckily there’s plenty of sweet online deals this Black Friday weekend to satisfy the most rabid horror fans. So if you’ve been holding out on that pricey Blu-ray box set, action figure, or shirt, bust out the plastic and tear it up. Then when you click that “Place Order” button, sit back and relax while all those suckers inside Best Buy trample one another.

MOVIES

Black Friday happens to coincide this year with a Barnes & Noble 50% Criterion Collection sale. While this earth-shattering event happens like three times a year, it’s still cool to be reminded of all the wicked horror flicks Criterion has put out that can be picked up for 50% off (so it’s like the normal price of Blu-ray). If you haven’t yet, pick up their pristine releases of The Uninvited, The Innocents, House, Eyes Without a Face, and slew of other great horror movies.

For Black Friday, Amazon’s dropped the price on a boat load of horror box sets, including The Twilight Zone complete series (over 70% off!), the Universal Monsters set (half off!), the highly underrated Thriller: The Series, the 40th anniversary Blu of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection (over half off!).

Amazon has also seriously dropped the prices on some must-own flicks like Jaws, the undisputed Hepburn horror classic Wait Until Dark, and The Haunting (one of my all time favorites).

Check out all of Amazon’s horror deals here! There’s a lot of season Blu-rays on sale for shows like True Blood, Hannibal, American Horror Story, and more.

TOYS

Entertainment Earth has been holding daily deals leading up to Black Friday, with a “doorbuster deal” promised the day of. As I’m writing this a few days early, I have no clue what door this deal will be busting, but sniff around their website Friday to find out. They are gonna be throwing down sales ALL weekend, through the first week of December, so keep watch! They sell a lot of silly shit on that site, but hopefully they’ll have deals on the painfully awesome Reaction figures line.

For our high net worth readers, Gentle Giant is holding a 30% off sale through Sunday, Nov. 30th. If you’ve been waiting for a sweet deal on a Daryl Dixon mini-bust, this is your moment!

A bunch of Walking Dead and other McFarlane toys are on sale for Black Friday over at Amazon (yes, I’m an Amazon whore).

SHIRTS

Fright Rags is throwing down a Black Friday sale, though at the time of writing this their site is down while they update their inventory. I always kick myself for missing out on their stuff, maybe Friday night I should get my shit together.

For the season, they’re releasing some AMAZING Christmas shirts like “Clark’s Revenge” (a Christmas Vacation x Friday the 13th mash-up, “A Christmas Gory” (Ralphie from A Christmas Story on the hunt), and “Abominable Snow Massacre” (takedown of the classic Rankin/Bass stop-motion classics). Fright Rags’ gear is wicked limited so ACT FAST!
