Leaked Trophies Mean ‘Siren’ is Probably Coming to PS4

Adam Dodd — Sat, 11 Jun 2016 13:00:08 +0000

On the very long list of survival horror games that never found the audience they probably deserved, the unnervingly atmospheric and genuinely freaky survival horror series Siren would rank fairly high. For several months now, there has been growing speculation that Sony may be working on a PS4 port of the original game, and while they have yet to confirm anything, a list of trophies on Exophase (spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle) have recently added some credibility to the rumors.

The timing would certainly be good, now that Siren: Blood Curse — a 2008 reimagining of the original game for the PS3 — is currently a featured freebie for PS Plus subscribers this month. Stay tuned, I suspect we’ll know more very soon.

‘Siren’, ‘Gone Home’ Free This Month On PS Plus

Adam Dodd — Wed, 01 Jun 2016 00:49:12 +0000

Sony has revealed the next batch of free games that will be made available to PS Plus subscribers in June, and among them are all twelve episodes of the chilling PS3 survival horror game Siren: Blood Curse. Siren never found the audience it deserved during its short run that began on the PS2 back in 2004. How such a smart and unnervingly atmospheric series managed to fly almost completely under the radar twice is beyond me.

At least it Blood Curse didn’t die alone. 2004 was lousy with underappreciated horror games. Siren released about a month after Resident Evil Outbreak and The Suffering, then there was Silent Hill 4 in September. So the next time you or someone you see curses the rise of action horror — which began the following year with Resident Evil 4 — remember, all that was our fault.

Anyway, here’s the full line-up for June, courtesy of the PlayStation Blog:

NBA 2K16, PS4
Gone Home: Console Edition, PS4
Echochrome, PS3
Siren: Blood Curse (Episodes 1-12), PS3
God of War: Chains of Olympus, PS Vita
Little Deviants, PS Vita

And since we’re talking about Siren, if you missed this video tour of Shiraiwa, you should fix that immediately. Shiraiwa is a ghost town nestled in the mountains north of Tokyo, Japan that served as the inspiration for Siren’s Shibito-infested village of Hanuda.

A Haunting Tour of the Village That Inspired ‘Siren’

Serious props are owed to the camera crew who risked their lives to bring us this stunning footage taken from the abandoned village of Shiraiwa, because in doing so, they came uncomfortably close to recreating the plot of Siren: Blood Curse. For the unfamiliar, Shiraiwa is an actual ghost town you can find near Chichibu, just north of Tokyo, where I assume it will remain right up until the skies start raining blood and it vanishes from existence.

The reason this town is so special is it served as the real-life inspiration for Hanuda, the Shibito-infested village from the Siren series. Just a heads up, this video will make you want to play Siren.

[Thanks, Japanistas]
