Unfold Games, Feardemic and Dreamloop have nailed down the release date of DARQ: Complete Edition, which will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and GOG on December 4. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch versions of the surrealist title are still scheduled for release in early 2021.

And, as is the norm for the moment, those who already own DARQ for PC will be automatically upgraded to DARQ: Complete Edition, and users who purchase the PlayStation 4 or Xbox Series versions will receive a free upgrade to the native PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series version upon its release.

In addition to the base game, DARQ: Complete Edition includes two downloadable content packs: “The Tower,” which is a mysterious structure filled with new puzzles and secrets, as well as “The Crypt,” which introduces the most challenging puzzles in the game, never-before-seen mechanics, new achievements, and new twists to the story.

DARQ is a psychological horror that tells the story of Lloyd, a boy who finds himself in the middle of a lucid nightmare, unable to wake up. While exploring the darkest corners of his subconscious, Lloyd learns how to survive the nightmare by bending the laws of physics and manipulating the fluid fabric of the dream world.

Last month, it was announced that Finnish developer Dreamloop was teaming up with Feardemic to bring Unfold Games’ DARQ to current and next-gen consoles. Well, today the teams have announced that DARQ: Complete Edition is on track to be released in December 2020 on the current generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles and on PC, with the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X to be receiving their version next year.

And as is the usual, anyone who purchases a copy of DARQ: Complete Edition on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will receive the optimized next-generation version for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S consoles for free for the entirety of 2021. The next-generation versions of DARQ: Complete Edition will have full 4K graphic support, as well as higher performance specifications, and are completely separate products from the current generation versions.

Feardemic is also looking to release physical versions for all platforms toward the end of the first quarter of 2021.

That’s not all. Unfold Games has also announced a series of comic books based on DARQ. Written by the game director of DARQ, Wlad Marhulets, DARQ: Dream Journal will “reveal numerous secrets hidden in the game” and “expand upon the story of Lloyd and the DARQ Universe.” The art for the comic is being created by Kelsey Haley, known for her work for Dreamworks, Disney, Universal, and South Park Studios. Both digital and physical releases are expected in 2021.

Currently, DARQ and its DLC is available on Steam and GOG.com.

Finnish developer Dreamloop has scored a deal with Bloober Team’s publishing arm Feardemic to bring Unfold Games’ DARQ to current and next-gen consoles. The psychological side-scroller was released on Steam last August.

While no release dates have been announced, DARQ: Complete Edition will include all of the DLC released for the game, and will release for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch.

“There’s a pretty amazing amount of detail put into the environments of the game – it makes the allure of the dark and surreal even stronger for us. We have quite a few horror game enthusiasts in the company, myself included, so it has been very exciting to get to work with these kinds of projects,” said Teemu Norvasto, Dreamloop’s Art Director. “As horror game enthusiasts ourselves, we have a great deal of respect for what Unfold Games has done with DARQ and want to bring that eerie magic faithfully to consoles. We’re working closely with Unfold Games to ensure we do so.”

At the moment, DARQ is enjoying a 60% discount until October 17th. So if you haven’t checked it out by now, October is a no-brainer.

Unfold Games’ psychological side-scroller DARQ will have multiple free DLCs for release before the end of the year. The dev made the announcement via Steam after earlier explaining their refusal to make the game an Epic Games Store exclusive. The DLCs, which are currently at the early concept stages, will add new levels to the gravity-bending puzzle game.

“The amount of support DARQ has received from the community has been incredible. I didn’t expect my blog post to result in so much good will and support. Please know that I don’t take any of it for granted and I’m truly grateful,” Wlad Marhulets, aka Unfold Games said in the Steam post. “Something that has been mentioned quite a lot since the launch is that DARQ could use a few extra levels. Message received! I’m excited to announce that we’re planning to release additional levels for DARQ later this year. To acknowledge all the support we’ve received from the community and express our gratitude, DARQ DLC’s will be available for free.”

In a post on Medium.com, Marhulets explained that they turned down the exclusivity deal with Epic so as to not break the promise made to users who were expecting the game on Steam. Marhulets also called on Epic to allow indie games to sell simultaneously on both services.

“Turning down the Epic exclusivity offer might have been a foolish decision in the short term, considering the amount of money that might have been involved. When thinking long term, however, this was an easy and obvious decision to make (in my case). Pulling the game off Steam a few days after Steam release date announcement would forever ruin the credibility of my studio. I would like for my customers to have confidence that my word means something, especially when making announcement as crucial as release date/platform.”

It’s been a long time since we talked about Unfold Games’ psychological side-scroller DARQ. Two years, actually. Despite not meeting its goal in its Indiegogo camp, DARQ has forged ahead. So far, in fact, that Unfold Games have released a new teaser for the game. They’ll also be at E3 this year, so if you’re one of the lucky folks who gets to go, do check it out.

For a refresher, DARQ puts you in the shoes of Lloyd, a boy who becomes aware of the fact that he is dreaming. Unfortunately, the dream quickly turns into a nightmare for him, and all his attempts to wake up fail. While exploring the darkest corners of his subconscious, Lloyd learns how to survive the nightmare by “bending the laws of physics and manipulating the fluid fabric of the dream world”.

The big gameplay component is the fantastical physics, where you’ll end up doing things such as walking on walls and ceilings or levitating to solve puzzles, as well as manipulating the dream world by moving objects or rotating rooms. You will face enemies, but seeing as they’re so much stronger and faster than Lloyd, stealth and avoidance is paramount.

Head over to the official site to check out new screenshots and videos, too! DARQ is slated for release fourth quarter of this year for PC, with a potential console release in the future.

Here’s Your Horror Game Release Schedule for January https://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3374998/jan16/ https://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3374998/jan16/#comments Sat, 02 Jan 2016 11:00:50 +0000 http://bloody-disgusting.com/?p=3374998 This is going to be a relatively tame month for new releases, especially compared to this same timeframe last year, which left us with a couple of Steam Early Access titles (H1Z1, Monstrum), a pair of remasters (Resident Evil, Indigo Prophecy), and Dying Light. This is going to be a relatively tame month for new releases, especially compared to this same timeframe last year, which left us with a couple of Steam Early Access titles (H1Z1, Monstrum), a pair of remasters (Resident Evil, Indigo Prophecy), and Dying Light. That was an unusually busy month that ultimately led to a disappointing latter half of they year, so let’s not look at this as too much, or too little, but just the right amount of horror.

PONY ISLAND

I usually prefer to ease into the weird stuff, but that’s not possible when we have something like Pony Island coming out in the first week of January. This game injects some suspense into its puzzle-solving, as you use the power of your brain to escape from the malfunctioning arcade cabinet the devil has imprisoned you in.

I love indie games.

Release Date: January 5 (PC)

OXENFREE

Fans of Until Dawn should keep an eye on Night School Studio’s indie horror game Oxenfree. This supernatural teen thriller follows the ghostly residents of a long-hidden phantom dimension as their world suddenly collides with our own thanks to a group of blundering teens — our “protagonists” — forcing these gentle specters to desperately protect their home.

Or maybe it’s about some teens who unintentionally expose a tear in space and time during a night-long island soirée that’s more or less ruined when pissed off poltergeists pour forth and start picking them off one by one.

Release Date: January 15 (PC, XBO)

RESIDENT EVIL 0 HD

You probably know by now that there’s a prequel to the original Resident Evil and that it’s getting a remaster later this month. What you might not know about Resident Evil 0 HD is that it’s coming with a new Wesker Mode so players can step into the skin-tight pants of Albert Wesker (circa Resident Evil 5) so we can disintegrate things with our laser vision.

Release Date: January 19 (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XBO)

RESIDENT EVIL ORIGINS COLLECTION

The Origins Collection takes all of the hot and steamy eye action we can anticipate from Resident Evil 0 HD and bundles it together with last year’s excellent remaster of the Resident Evil remake.

It will also come with some hilariously awful costumes.

Release Date: January 19 (PS4, XBO)

BABA YAGA: THE TEMPLE OF THE WITCH

We only recently became acquainted with Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, which is also the first story expansion for the ridiculously good Rise of the Tomb Raider. Lara Croft has been known to dip a toe in the horrific, but it’s never gone full horror. Baba Yaga isn’t likely to change that, but it does look delightfully creepy.

This DLC will come with an additional tomb filled with treasures to plunder (for heroic reasons, of course), and a meaty side story that pits Ms. Croft against “an ancient and mythic evil.” I bet I know what it is.

Unfortunately, while Rise of the Tomb Raider is slated to hit PC later this month, it won’t be arriving on the PS4 until the end of the year and there isn’t currently a PC release date for the Baba Yaga DLC.

Release Date: TBA January (360, XBO)

DARQ / SYLVIO 2

These horror games aren’t new releases, but they do have the potential to become that in the future, assuming we’re willing to part with enough of our precious cash monies to help make it happen.

The first crowdfunding campaign to close this month belongs to an open-world horror game by the name of Sylvio 2. After successfully raising over $2,300 a little more than a year ago, Stroboscope is hoping to get $15,289 by January 9. I sincerely hope they’re able to haul ass next week so they can raise the remaining ~$7,000, because I love the idea of “a single-player horror game set in broad daylight, where you record the dead with the help of a video camera and a portable TV.” Don’t you?

Unfold Games is taking the “out-niche the competition” approach with their horror game DARQ. It’s not an easy one to describe, but that’s obviously not going to stop me from trying.

DARQ is a nightmarish 2.5D side-scroller set in the lucid dream of a child protagonist named Lloyd, who quickly realizes he’s been gifted with godlike powers that allow him to manipulate the laws of physics. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, you can support it on Indiegogo.

DARQ is so unique in its strangeness that it could only exist if enough of us came together to accept it for the dreamy 2.5D side-scrolling zero-gravity horror game that it is.

It’s the reason why the team at Unfold Games have turned to Indiegogo in the hopes of joining the constantly growing list of crowdfunding success stories that’s already given us horror games about using drugs to see alternate realities, being hunted by robots through a quaint British countryside, and battling debilitating mental illnesses.

With company like that, a psychological horror game set in a zero-gravity lucid dream is exactly the kind of game that should be able to raise $20,000 by the end of January.

Don’t give it all your money just yet. I haven’t even mentioned its Shining-like pacing or its procedurally generated environments that I’m sure will pair nicely with its multiple endings. It’s even getting an original soundtrack composed by Wlad Marhulets (Hitman: Agent 47, The Giver). Is it too late; you’ve donated twice already, just to spite me? Ass.
