]]> We’ve teamed up with punk rock band Direct Hit to bring you the exclusive music video premiere for their track “Paid in Brains”. Directed by Dan Riser, and written and produced by Mike L Kinshella (Night of the Punks), the video shows a nerdy scientist who invites some “cool punks” to his place for a party that includes pills and drugs, even though they’re clearly bullies towards him. Deciding that a night fueled by psychedelic mind fuckery, the punks all gather to see if these pills actually have anything to offer and, much to their initial surprise and delight, they do! However, coming down from a trip can be quite painful…and disgusting.

There’s nothing inherently NSFW about this but I’d still exercise a little bit of caution if I were you!

Vocalist Nick Woods tells Bloody-Disgusting:

We’re all pretty big fans of Troma movies, and deliberately offensive horror in general, like ‘The Human Centipede’, ‘Sleepaway Camp’, stuff like that. We knew Mike and Dan are too – We’d seen ‘Night of the Punks’ and ‘T is for Tickles’ after all. Originally the idea was to make Charlie into an insane D.A.R.E. instructor who poisons his students, but I think it ended up being a lot cooler having him as a dweeb who offs all the popular kids instead.

“Paid in Brains” comes from the band’s upcoming album Wasted Mind, which is, “…a 12-track concept album inspired by the warped sensibilities of such savage works as Burroughs’ Naked Lunch and Thompson’s Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.” You can pre-order the album right here.

Director Mike L Kinshella adds:

I became a fan of Direct Hit relatively recently (read: late to the party) when they embarked on a west coast tour with my wife’s band The Bombpops. I was pretty much instantly hooked, being a fan of creepy fucked up lyrics, concepty albums and good old fashioned kickass punk. On that very tour the band was exposed to some short films that Dan and I had made and serendipitously, they became fans of ours as well. We were honored and stoked when they asked us to collaborate on the video for “Paid in Brains” and went to work developing the concept from Nick’s original twisted vision. With help from a bunch of our friends and family in the LA punk scene (including the incomparable Charlie Saxton, who is an amazing comedic actor) we made this little slice of drug-induced nastiness a reality. Enjoy!

]]> Last week Riot Fest (Chicago) revealed bands that were no longer able to perform this year (Motörhead, Bad Brains and Attack Attack!) while at the same time revealing bands that would be joining this year’s line up (Pixies, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Suicidal Tendencies, Andrew W.K., Hatebreed, T.S.O.L., Off With Their Heads, The Wonder Years, The Flatliners, Hostage Calm, The Interrupters, New Beat Fund and Pet Symmetry). While it is sad that a couple of the bands had to drop off I feel what’s being put in their place isn’t too shabby.
