The psychological horror game, which was released on Steam in October 2018, will be an Extended Cut for consoles, featuring everything from the original game, as well as additional endings and a “New Game Plus” mode with remixed puzzles and “all-new scares.”

The game, which will make an appearance at this year’s PAX West 2019 (August 30 to September 2 in Seattle), will set you back $19.99 USD.

Developed by the one-man team of Clinton McCleary and released in October 2018, Infliction is described as an interactive nightmare and horrific exploration of the darkness that can lurk within the most normal-looking suburban home. Wander through the remnants of a once-happy family, reading letters and journals, listening to voicemails, and piecing together clues to understand the terrible events that led you here.

However, you are not alone. Something else has remained in this house. While you hunt for clues as to what happened, that something else hunts you, waiting for its chance to unleash its anger on you.

The premise for Infliction was inspired by Clinton’s own fears as a new father, with the thought of “this could be happening right next door”. The game puts you in a seemingly normal-looking suburban home. However, as you wander the halls, reading letters and listening to voicemails, you find out things are anything but normal. You also find out that you’re not alone in the house, as whatever remained from the horrible events that happened before is now after you. As you hunt for clues to piece together what went on in the house, that something is hunting you.

Currently, Clinton is running a Kickstarter to hire an animator to give the game polish, but regardless of how the Kickstarter turns out, the game will be released in October this year. Writer-director Jack Thomas Smith put himself on the horror movie map in 2006 with the cult psychological thriller Disorder.

With Infliction, Smith assembled footage taken from the cameras used by two psychotic brothers, who documented a murder spree in North Carolina in 2011. Unlike its predecessors The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, which relied on sparse visual evidence of supernatural activity, Infliction reveals in shiver-inducing detail the brothers’ hideous actions and what led them to commit their crimes. It shows the effects of people’s actions (or inactions) and their effect on others’ lives, presenting in cold reality a hard look at the blurred line between society’s criminals and its victims.

The film screened at the 2013 Buffalo Niagara Film Festival, where Smith won the award for Best Story in a Feature.
