The day’s finally arrived for Survival Horror fans looking to get their dinosaur fix with Jaw Drop Games’ Deathground. Out in Early Access on Steam, you can grab the game with a 15% launch discount until October 21. According to the devteam, Deathground will be in the service for approximately 8-12 months, though development will continue “until the community believes it’s reached the desired quality and depth for the full release.”

The team has also released the Early Access roadmap, which includes monthly “mini-updates” alongside a bigger Communications Update. No specific dates are available just yet.

The devteam stresses that this current version of Deathground is not representative of the final game, and that players may encounter some issues, which the team is working hard to resolve. Furthermore, feedback is essential, so join the Discord to report bugs and send feedback.

As for what’s included in this Early Access release, the game features two enemy AI types, two training maps and three main maps, six character classes and four loadout items.

Deathground is a solo and co-op survival horror title where players face off against AI-powered dinosaurs in abandoned research facilities overrun by prehistoric threats. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game blends stealth, tension and squad-based tactics in intense, replayable missions. Regardless of solo or team play, survival depends on teamwork, quick thinking and raw instinct.

That was quick. After announcing an October launch window for Deathground, Jaw Drop Games has now finalized the Early Access launch for October 7. The Early Access launch will feature two bootcamp maps (a solo tutorial and a bunker where players can test gear), as well as three distinct missions set in diverse environments. Players will tackle varied objectives, from restoring power in a volcanic energy plant, to cleansing a toxic greenhouse, and infiltrating a decaying genetics lab to recover vital assets.

For those not in the know, Deathground is a solo and co-op survival horror title where players face off against AI-powered dinosaurs in abandoned research facilities overrun by prehistoric threats. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game blends stealth, tension and squad-based tactics in intense, replayable missions. Regardless of solo or team play, survival depends on teamwork, quick thinking and raw instinct.

While faithful to its original vision since its successful Kickstarter five years ago, Deathground has undergone an evolution since its initial inception, thanks to community feedback and Jaw Drop Games’ commitment to deeper, replayable survival gameplay.

Those changes include:

  • Expanded Co-op: Originally designed for 1–3 players, Deathground now supports up to four-player co-op, bringing more tactical variety and social play.

  • Six Playable Characters: The roster of playable characters has doubled, growing from three to six. These include the Scout, Engineer, Survivalist and newly added Medic, alongside reimagined versions of two of the original Kickstarter characters: the Observer and Hunter.

  • Custom Loadouts: Gear is no longer locked to specific characters. Tools like the Motion Detector, Hacking Device, Tranquilizer Rifle and Med-Kit can be equipped by any class, with more planned for future updates.

  • Richer Missions and Environments: Beyond the originally promised three maps, Deathground now includes a tutorial, an interactive training range and environments enriched with narrative objects and lore-driven collectibles tied to achievements. Mission objectives are now also more complex, involving multi-stage interactions.

  • Deeper Stealth & Survival Mechanics: Stealth has been enhanced with new hiding spots like lockers, barrels, vents, and natural cover such as tall grass. Movement refinements including slide, crouch toggle, peeking and lookback offer tactical control, while sound traps like broken glass raise tension and demand careful navigation.

  • Smarter AI with Dynamic Behavior: Enemy AI has been overhauled with new behaviors and matching animations. For example, raptors can now drag players out of hiding and Compsognathus can stalk players through winding vent systems, creating constant tension.

  • Defense mechanisms: Players can now fight back, though in limited supply, by throwing objects like bottles to distract or stun dinosaurs, or by using tranquilizers to briefly neutralize them.

Deathground launches into Early Access on Steam at an initial price of $14.99. A limited-time launch discount will also be available for the first two weeks.

Jaw Drop Games’ Deathground has had its release window winnowed down even more, with the game now arriving in Steam Early Access in October. Technically, October isn’t in the Q3 2025 release window the team had announced earlier this year, but they’ve been quick to explain things, as well as release a new trailer for the Early Access announcement.

“Our original target release date had been set for a while, but as we moved closer, various factors including the timing of the Steam build approval process and our marketing plans didn’t quite align,” explains the team in a new update. “Given the tight schedule and rather than rush things or launch without the proper visibility and support, we decided it was better to shift the date slightly (only just!) and avoid the Autumn Sale to give the game the launch it deserves.”

With that out of the way, the team will be narrowing things down even more with the Early Access release date being announced later this week in with the official Early Access launch trailer.

And leading up to the eventual launch into Early Access, Jaw Drop Games will be posting a daily Deathground mini-update on the game’s Community Hub. In these mini-updates, the team will pull back the curtain on development progress, showcasing things such as gameplay details, behind-the-scenes, developer interviews and Q&A. Additionally, they’ll also be showing off what’s in store for the future of Deathground with the reveal of the Early Access roadmap.

Jaw Drop Games narrowed down the release date for this year for Deathground, but they’re still making it awfully hard to wait. The Survival Horror FPS had an appearance at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, revealing a new developer featurette that gives players a first look at new gameplay, unseen environments and mechanics, as well as a new Q3 2025 release date. In addition to the new footage, the development team also addresses community-submitted questions, offering fresh insights into dinosaur threats, map variety and missions.

Fresh from the devs, the featurette reveals new intel on the primary threats players will face, including the cunning Utahraptors, the Compsognathus (Compy) and glimpses of other prehistoric creatures roaming the facility. We also get a first look at the Early Access missions, including a solo tutorial mission that introduces the game’s mechanics to players.

The update also teases the team’s approach to environmental storytelling, highlighting how players will piece together the facility’s dark past through exploration, artifacts and mission objectives. And for those who love eye candy, the featurette includes brand-new visuals, showcasing fresh environments and previously unseen gameplay mechanics. Jaw Drop plans on showing more teasers on future updates.

Currently, Deathground is in private Alpha, accessible exclusively to Kickstarter backers. However, it continues to evolve based on player feedback, with a focus on refining core gameplay systems, AI behavior and mission flow. A closed Beta phase is planned ahead of the Early Access launch on Steam for that Q3 2025 date.

After last month’s DevGround video, Jaw Drop Games has revealed that their upcoming dino Survival Horror title Deathground will be coming to PC via Steam later this year by Early Access. Announced during this year’s Future Games Show Spring Showcase, the reveal also included an intense gameplay trailer for the solo and co-op shooter.

The latest gameplay teaser provides the most in-depth look yet at the terrifying world of Deathground. The trailer offers up glimpses of the fast-paced gameplay, along with the new item mechanics and anxiety-inducing environments.

Either alone or with a squad of up to four players, you must use a range of tools and weapons to escape and survive, all the while navigating through the nerve-wracking environments to complete critical missions. All the while, you’ll be stalked and hunted by the game’s AI predators (which featured prominently in the previously-mentioned DevGround developer diary video),  set to the haunting music score by BAFTA-nominated composer, David Housden (Thomas was Alone, Volume, Q.U.B.E. 2). Stealth, combat and teamwork are the only means of survival.

Currently, Deathground is in a private Alpha testing phase, available exclusively to early Kickstarter backers and adopters, with a transition into Beta Testing in the near future.

It’s been over a year since we received that Deathground gameplay trailer, and Jaw Drop Games has been plugging away ever since with development on this Survival Horror shooter. They’ve now released the first dev diary for Deathground to help keep fans up to speed.

Titled “DevGround”, the first episode clocks in at under five minutes, but is merely there to catch you up on the status of the game’s development. “We’ve wanted to create these [devlogs] for a while now, as a better way of keeping you all in the loop,” says the team.

Indeed, the video goes over the “juicier” updates for Deathground, as well as showing off the some of the blockouts for the five maps that the team is planning to have ahead of the game’s initial launch. Currently, the Alpha-pledged Kickstarter backers are playtesting the Powerplant map, having already experienced the Mission Command and Bunker maps last year.

The game’s dark and gloomy art style is also touched upon, with the video noting that there’s still plenty of art dressing and lighting passes to during the Alpha and Beta testing periods.

The main focus of the video, however, is the enemy AI, which the video showcases in the example of the Raptor. The animation is also another focus, in order to make the dinosaurs’ movements smoother when they’re in the pursuit of the player. “We’ve been working on lots of little details like that, to make the gameplay experience feel more immersive.”

Check out more in the video below. Deathground is currently available to wishlist on Steam.

Jaw Drop Games recently dropped a small year-in-review update for its in-development Survival Horror shooter, Deathground. Despite the game missing its Early Access release date, the update provides plenty of things to be excited about, including some cool behind-the-scenes development images.

In amongst the talk about the developer’s onboarding of talent from its initial Kickstarter launch, the update shows off more in-production shots of some of the dinos players will be battling. “We’re aiming for Deathground to feel and look devastatingly deadly. While our art team has been devising new 3D visualisations to immerse you into the game, our tech team has been forging movement and life into these scenes.”

The update briefly talks about the challenges the team faces when it comes to the AI, and on making the dinosaurs “convincing, scary and impactful”. The update finishes off stating that the team aims to post updates on Deathground‘s development on the first Friday of every month.

Deathground is currently in development for PC via Steam.

Jaw Drop Games has reached another milestone in their Kickstarter funding for their Dino Crisis-esque Deathground. After reaching their initial funding goal two weeks ago, their next goal was to acquire enough funding to have the Allosaurus brought into the game. Well, that goal has now been “destroyed”, according to the latest update.

Not only did the team reach the £100k to get the Allosaurus, but they’ve also revealed new stretch goals with just three days to go. The goals in question are another £5000 each, but it’s certainly doable. The first is a character skin pack, while the second will add the compsognathus into the game. Currently, the total funding is around £101k, so the first stretch goal is within reach.

Deathground will be released onto Steam Early Access in Q3 2021.

So, the reveal trailer for Jaw Drop Games’ Deathground got you going for a return of Dino Crisis-eque panic horror. But, you still want to see more of the gameplay, you say. Not to worry, as Jaw Drop have released a short-but-terrifyingly-sweet gameplay teaser for Deathground.

Now obviously, things do look a little rough. Adam from Jaw Drop explains that the footage is from a first playable, with much of the content including dinosaurs, animations and models being in there to get a sense of what the game will be like. Obviously, as production goes on, everything will be updated.

Nevertheless, what’s here, along with the atmosphere and visual effects, is still impressive to see. The best part is that it’ll only get better.

Look for Deathground entering Steam Early Access Q3 2021. And check out their Kickstarter, which is only 30% away from being fully funded.

Okay, so we’ve got that fan remake of Dino Crisis still being worked on, but you still want more dinosaur horror? Jaw Drop Games is looking to fill that void with their own dino survival horror game called Deathground, which just launched its Kickstarter, but also has a Steam page.

The UK-based team, who are “passionate dinosaur and horror fans” and made up of industry veterans, are currently asking for around 80K GBP to complete the project. Deathground is focused on squad-based and solo gameplay, along with “unpredictable” dino AI that will “hunt you down, influence decision-making and drive a tailored experience.” Judging from the screenshots and gifs, the game definitely evokes survival horror elements (including an Aliens-style motion tracker!), while sporting some great graphics.

Jaw Drop Games also state that the game’s community will “have an active role in helping to shape the game experience”, as well as “an emphasis on player feedback”. As with these Kickstarters, there are several backer levels, depending on your contribution, as well as stretch goals.

The team seems to have laid out a comprehensive plan, including a timeframe that includes a Q3 2021 Early Access release on Steam. So obviously, if you want to see this come to fruition (as Capcom doesn’t seem to want to resurrect Dino Crisis anytime soon), then check these guys out.
