Utopia will release the Lynchian film in theaters this Spring.

Ahead of its release, I Live Here Now will receive special sneak-peek screening events on February 24, in celebration of Twin Peaks Day, at participating Alamo Drafthouse locations.

Night Teeth and Bright actor Lucy Fry stars as “Rose, a woman haunted by trauma and trapped in a motel where reality unravels, the film blurs the lines between past and present, dream and waking life, captured in vivid 16mm.”

In the film, “Struggling actress Rose (Lucy Fry) finds her life upended by unexpected news. She’s suddenly forced to confront a future she never thought possible, just as a major career opportunity with top agent Cindy Abrams (Cara Seymour) comes into view. Things spiral further when her casual boyfriend, Travis (Matt Rife), brings his overbearing mother (Twin Peaks‘ Sheryl Lee) into the fold, pushing Rose to the brink.

“She flees to The Crown Inn, a crumbling motel at the edge of nowhere, where time fractures and reality bends. Haunted by sleep paralysis, splintered memories, and eerie motel dwellers, especially the enigmatic Lillian (Madeline Brewer), Rose begins to unravel. To move forward, she must confront the buried truth of her past that her body has never forgotten.”

The trippy psychodrama is described as “a boldly haunting, surreal fever dream about identity, trauma, and the fragile line between memory and madness.” Adding to the surreal quality is that I Live Here Now was shot on vibrant 35mm with striking 16mm sequences.

See for yourself below with the new trailer and poster reveal.

I Live Here Now was announced in Fantasia’s first wave of programming.

Night Teeth and Bright actor Lucy Fry stars as “Rose, a woman haunted by trauma and trapped in a motel where reality unravels, the film blurs the lines between past and present, dream and waking life, captured in vivid 16mm.”

Fantasia’s description provides additional insight, stating Pacino’s debut is about “competing anxieties: the pursuit of perfection, the weight of generational trauma, and the invisible fist of capitalism tightening its grip around the necks of its characters.” It’s also described as a “vibrant and nightmarish psychodrama” that “reverberates with echoes of David Lynch, Dario Argento, and the Coen brothers.

The supporting cast includes Madeline Brewer (CAM), Sheryl Lee (“Twin Peaks”), Cara Seymour (American Psycho), and stand-up comedian and actor Matt Rife.

“I am thrilled to unveil this deeply personal project with Utopia. I Live Here Now explores fear and discomfort through the eyes of a woman who has been conditioned by societal restraints to disconnect from her own body. I hope this movie can create a unifying experience and entertain anyone who watches it. It’s a wild ride and I can’t wait to share it,” Pacino said in a statement shared via the film’s production company, Artak Pictures.

Netflix is painting the town red with the official trailer for the “Netflix and Chills” movie today, which looks a bit like Collateral… only with a fun, stylish, and blood-sucking twist.

Jorge Lendeborg Jr. stars alongside Debby Ryan (Insatiable), Lucy Fry (Bright) and Alfie Allen (Jo Jo Rabbit, Game of Thrones). Here’s the new plot synopsis from Netflix…

“To earn some extra cash, quirky college student Benny (Lendeborg, Jr.) moonlights as a chauffeur for one night. His task: drive two mysterious young women (Ryan and Fry) around Los Angeles for a night of party hopping. Taken captive by his clients’ charm, he soon learns that his passengers have their own plans for him – and an insatiable thirst for blood. As his night spins out of control, Benny is thrust into the middle of a clandestine war that pits rival tribes of vampires against the protectors of the human world, led by his brother (Raúl Castillo), who will stop at nothing to send them back into the shadows. With sunrise fast approaching, Benny is forced to choose between fear and temptation if he wants to stay alive and save the City of Angels.”

The cast also includes Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body, Till Death).

Brent Dillon (Black Tide Beach) wrote the script. The legendary Bob Shaye (A Nightmare on Elm Street) will be serving as executive producer of the film.

Netflix just shared a brand new trailer for Bright, the latest film from director David Ayer (Suicide Squad and End of Watch) starring Will Smith (I Am Legend), Joel Edgerton (The Gift), and Noomi Rapace (Alien: Covenant, Prometheus).

The new footage mixes all sorts of genres from horror to fantasy and comedy, especially the latter as Smith and Edgerton’s relationship reminds me of fish-out-of-water comedies like Beverly Hills Cop or Rush Hour. It looks like they’re playing with fire but I think Ayer is a pretty dope director and I’m excited to get this on a streaming service for (basically) free this coming December.

“Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been coexisting since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward, a human (Will Smith), and Jakoby, an orc (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.”

The Netflix original film, arriving on December 22, also stars Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Enrique Murciano, Jay Hernandez, Andrea Navedo, Veronica Ngo, Alex Meraz, Margaret Cho, Brad William Henke, Dawn Olivieri, and Kenneth Choi.

The film is written by Max Landis (Chronicle, Victor Frankenstein). David Ayer, Eric Newman, and Bryan Unkeless serve as producers.

In this latest sneak peek, Smith and Edgerton reveal the unique partnership between their characters Officer Ward and Officer Jakoby. Ayer showcases how these two mismatched partners anchor the story, explaining that “the most important thing about this film is the relationship between Will and Joel.”

Ayer may have dropped the ball with Suicide Squad, but Bright looks to right that wrong. Ayer is an extremely talented filmmaker, who also directed End of Watch, Sabotage and Fury. His action choreography is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and this even includes the disappointing Suicide Squad. The trailer looks like a new kind of superhero movie, integrating the best parts of End of Watch and Suicide Squad with strong social commentary and a bit of that buddy comedy wit from something like Rush Hour.Look for this on December 22, 2017.

This past Friday the second to last episode of “Wolf Creek” aired meaning we are down to our second to last “Kill of the Week.” Much like week 2 we do not have an actual kill this week, per se, but we do get a 90-second shootout at a graveyard that looks like something straight out of a western.

Stay tuned as the series concludes this Friday!

“The story of Wolf Creek begins when an American family is on holiday in Northern Australia and becomes the unsuspecting prey of Mick Taylor, a sadistic serial killer who hunts and kills tourists in the Outback. The sole survivor is Eve Thorogood, a college student, who vows to bring the killer to justice or die in the attempt. Wolf Creek reveals her complex and extraordinary journey, traveling every step of the way as she evolves from child to adult, from prey to predator. But can she triumph over Mick Taylor, evil incarnate?”

We are halfway through the “Wolf Creek” mini-series and that means we are halfway through our Bloody Disgusting exclusive Kill of the Weeks! This may be my favorite kill thus far. The actual kill takes place off screen (sort of) but the entirety of the clip shows off the ruthfulness that makes Mick Taylor the terrifying being that he is. The clip also serves as a good example of why you never want to crash of breakdown in Australia.

We’re now two episodes into Pop’s “Wolf Creek” and this is our second Kill of the Week and it’s a bit of a cheat. This week we don’t actually have a kill because if you watched this past Friday’s episode you may have noticed there wasn’t a kill – at least not on screen, there may have been a kill or two that happened when we weren’t looking. In place of this week’s kill we have quick little compilation of a look at things to come throughout the rest of the season. So yes, technically there is no kill in this clip, but there is still some awesome gore that we’ve come to love and expect from this brutal series. Plus if you’re enjoying the show as much as I am you’ll take anything “Wolf Creek” related that you can get.

Our ole pal Mick Taylor is back and he’s up to his usually tricks. Unfortunately this vacationing family doesn’t suspect a thing, perhaps because bowie knives are so quiet, and they become the latest victims in his long string of slayings.

The post “Wolf Creek” Kill of the Week: Weapon of Choice (Clip) appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

Let’s begin this with the giant caveat that I’m not a big fan of the original film, Wolf Creek. I think it falls into the same trappings that a lot of “horror” from that time during the early 2000s do, where it amounts to torture porn and not anything higher. That being said, I was excited to watch this television adaptation of the film series (there’s a sequel) simply because I was hopeful that a serialized approach to the horror would give me a deeper appreciation for the source material.

Well, it’s about the same.

This six-part series continues the relentless slayings of Australian Outback serial killer, Mick Taylor, who John Jarratt continues to play with delicious glee. He’s like a kid in a machete store. Jarratt continues to give it his all and it’s clear that he’s got a real love for this sadistic monster. Rather than this just being a series that chronicles Mick’s murders, it wisely introduces Eve, a compelling Final Girl who loses her family at Mick’s hands. Accordingly, the show adopts a split perspective as Mick continues on with his laissez faire destructive lifestyle and Eve tries to track the bastard down and get revenge for what he did to her.

Eve is by far the best thing to come out of this series and Lucy Fry does a wonderful job in the role. This is a character that you actually care for who is smart, doesn’t take bullshit, and knows how to take care of herself. There’s a certain inevitable lack of suspense in a set-up like this one where you know that Eve isn’t going to die before her confrontation with Mick, but Eve being a capable character that can kick ass is just as likely for her survival. At the same time, she could have had two or three friends with her—or met up with some people on her journey—that could have acted as fodder for Mick and increase the tension a little bit in their relationship. The show also does a great job at making Eve appropriately flawed too, with a steady addiction to painkillers and other vices to flesh out the character. She also goes through a steady trial by fire where Mick is not the only one after her, forcing her to undergo some trauma and harden up by proxy. In a lot of ways the series acts as her training for her inevitable showdown with Mick.

As Eve is investigating murders and trying to figure out where Mick is, we get to see Mick moving through the Outback in his own element, plaguing areas as he drives through. There’s such a bluntness to the violence in this world, like it’s nothing at all, and it just all happens without flinching. Even to Eve. The execution of her family is perhaps the most brutal, numb killing of the whole series and it’s just thrown at you. The final episodes especially turn up the horror aspect of Mick’s rampage with there being some particularly gruesome images that shouldn’t leave you any time soon. There’s an added dimension to all of this where the police are also on the scene trying to catch Mick too, with it all amounting to this interesting hot pursuit and cat-and-mouse game between everyone involved. This police angle might not exactly be necessary, and it might even de-personalize Eve’s story here, but it’s again a realistic dimension present here. There’s no denying that the police would be a presence in all of this, so why not play with that?

The series does decide to gives us Mick’s backstory (in the one episode that Wolf Creek films’ writer/director Greg McLean helms), explaining how he has become as callous as he is. Whether we needed to get this or not, it’s perfectly serviceable material, but it’s pretty much what you’d expect it to be. If we are going to get this glimpse into Mick’s past, I’d at least prefer it to be something rather than the typical serial killer origin story. I suppose it’s one that rings true, which is why we do see it so often, but in that case, spend that time on something else. Show us Mick’s first kill instead. There are still other formative moments in his path to homicidal legend.

The series also boasts some straight-up gorgeous cinematography too, that at times looks like stuff from right out of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul’s Albuquerque. It’s a dream to look at a lot of the time, even if there are some horrific things going on beneath the glowing skylines.

The thing is, this is probably exactly what a Wolf Creek series should be. It follows the blueprint of the movie perfectly, introduces a strong new protagonist that you actually care about, and still expands upon the source material in its own way. While a lot of this falling flat on me seems to be for the same reasons that I wasn’t raving about the film while other people were, I think I can still objectively see when something is doing compelling or flawed storytelling. Wolf Creek certainly meanders and wastes a lot of time that could be applied in many more productive ways. A six-episode series cannot allow any fat. This padding slows down any momentum that Mick or Eve are building and is what ultimately has the series falling short in the end. I’m highlighting a lot of what works in this series, but it doesn’t change that in spite of these things I was still bored a number of times throughout the show.

What’s frustrating here is that I think there’s a great deal of merit to taking a horror film and turning it into a limited six-episode series. A new film in the Jeepers Creepers saga is finally happening much to its fans excitement, but can you imagine that being done as something like this instead? Or what about Hellraiser? I’d even be more into a Hostel or Cabin Fever limited series than more features in those franchises. If anything I hope this exercise opens the doors for more niche horror to go this route. Even if it has to remain foreign horror in order to satisfy certain tax credits or international TV stations, there’s still titles like The Loved Ones or Berberian Sound Studio that fit the bill.

Wolf Creek is a mixed bag of a series that honors up Greg McLean’s original films in a way that will satisfy you if you were a fan of the movies. The series triumphs off of letting Jarratt loose as Mick and embracing the character, while also creating a worthy adversary for the villain. The violence of the films remains, but an unfocused narrative that drags in areas holds it back from the adrenaline ride that it wants to be.

I’m both a huge fan of director Greg McLean and his Wolf Creek franchise, which began like an homage to Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and then turned into a fun game of cat-and-mouse in the sequel.

Now, McLean is flipping the franchise on its head with the 6-part miniseries that sets Eve Thorogood is on a mission for revenge.

Ten years since the release of the hugely successful feature film Wolf Creek, creator Greg McLean and star John Jarratt return to give audiences a new take on the legend of Mick Taylor.

“‘Wolf Creek,’ a six-part drama series, is a psychological thriller set in the world that fans of the films will recognize – but this time things are different. At first the pattern is familiar: Mick Taylor targets an American tourist family to terrorise and destroy. But the tables are turned when 19-year-old Eve survives the massacre and starts to rebuild her shattered existence by embarking on a mission of revenge.”

Eve is played by Vampire Academy‘s Lucy Fry, who is shown preparing for the arrival of Mick Taylor.

Deborah Mailman (Offspring), Dustin Clare (Strike Back), Miranda Tapsell (Redfern Now), Richard Cawthorne (Catching Milat), Jake Ryan (Wentworth), and Jessica Tovey (Wonderland) also star in “Wolf Creek”.

Peter Gawler and Felicity Packard are the writers on the series, which is directed by Tony Tilse and Greg McLean, and produced by Peter Gawler and Elisa Argenzio. The executive producers are Greg Haddrick and Greg McLean with Jo Rooney, Andy Ryan, Nick Forward and Rob Gibson.

The series was shot in South Australia, featuring striking Outback landscapes, all shown in the full trailer for the series!

David Mazouz, Lucy Fry, Matt Walsh and Jennifer Morrison also star.

The trailer, below, looks to have a really fun spirit, which isn’t surprising considering what a blast I had watching McLean’s Wolf Creek 2. The “relic” concept is one I enjoy as it harks back to films like Hellraiser, Wishmaster and even The Exorcist; it’s a simple, yet effective way to explain a haunting. The trailer really hones in on “they,” which is the big thing that has me captivated. I have a lot of faith in McLean, so let’s see what he pulls out this coming Friday the 13th!

Vampire Academy Special features include Alternate Opening, Deleted Scenes and A Conversation With Author Richelle Mead.

Based on author Richelle Mead’s worldwide bestselling series, Vampire Academy “tells the legend of Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), two 17-year-old girls who attend a hidden boarding school for Moroi (mortal, peaceful Vampires) and Dhampirs (half-vampire/half-human guardians). Rose, a rebellious Guardian-in-training and her best friend, Lissa – a royal vampire Princess – have been on the run when they are captured and returned to St.Vladamirs Academy, the very place where they believe their lives may be in most jeopardy. Thrust back into the perils of Moroi Society and high school, Lissa struggles to reclaim her status while Rose trains with her mentor and love-interest, Dimitri (Danila Kozlovsky), to guarantee her place as Lissa’s guardian. Rose will sacrifice everything to protect Lissa from those who intend to exploit her from within the Academy walls and the Strigoi (immortal, evil vampires) who hunt her kind from outside its sanctuary.“

The post ‘Vampire Academy’ Bites Into Home Video appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

The movie opens with a ten-minute purge of exposition explaining the three types of vampires, the rules, and how the two main characters are connected. Once the runaway duo (played by Zoey Dutch and Lucy Fry) are apprehended, they’re taken back to St. Vladimir’s Academy where they’re now outcasts. There, the class of teen vamps zing each other as they move from snooze-inducing scene after scene, pointlessly taking the viewer deeper and deeper into the lame traditions of the school. In a world that has Facebook and hashtags (and even malls), these vampires insist on living in the past for unknown reasons and doing things in a ridiculous and asinine way (the way they dress and act are completely void of any realism). The difference between this fantasy world and the one in Harry Potter is that Potter is FUN. Vampire Academy is just awful.

Even worse, by the time the conflict is introduced (and everything is over-explained, again), the movie already feels like it’s been on for an eternity. You’ll be begging to get out of the theater and into the sunlight.

On a weekend where you have a choice between two very bad movies, Vampire Academy and Nurse 3D, you should make the strong effort to at least see one that’s enjoyable – the sleazy, fun and cheesy Nurse 3D. At the very least, you’ll want to skip out of Vampire Academy – any kind of punishment you’ll get is better than this school.

Deadline reports that “Modern Family‘s” Sarah Hyland, pictured above, and “Vikings’” Gabriel Byrne, below, will now also be sinking their teeth in the movie based on the books by Richelle Mead. Bryne will play Victor, one of the leaders of the Academy while Hyland will play Natalie, Victor’s daughter and the best friend of the lead Rose and Lissa characters. Lucy Fry and Zoey Deutch have already been announced as Lissa and Rose.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Joely Richardson and Dominic Sherwood have also joined the film. Richardson will play Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi Vampires. Sherwood will be playing Christian, Lissa’s love interest. These latest cast additions come on the heels of the announcement last week that Sami Gayle (Blue Bloods), Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”), Ashley Charles (White Buffalo) and Claire Foy (White Heat) had joined the ensemble cast. The film also stars Oblivion’s Olga Kurylenko and Danila Kozlovski.

The series is set at St. Vladimir’s Academy in the Montana forests, centers on Rose Hathaway, a 17-year-old female “dhampir” — a half human/half vampire and a guardian of the Moroi race of peaceful mortal vampires. The script for “Blood Sisters,” based on the first book in Richelle Mead’s series of books, was written by the director’s brother, Dan Waters (Heathers, Batman Returns). Producers plan to start lensing in the early summer.
