The actress joins the already announced cast of Annabelle Wallis, Maddie Hasson, George Young, Michole Briana White, Jake Abel, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Ingrid Bisu.

Described as an original thriller not based on any existing IP, the film is going to be part of the Giallo sub-genre.

Malignant‘s actual plot is being kept under wraps, but Wan directs off a screenplay by Akela Cooper and JT Petty with story by Wan and Bisu.

Malignant will release in theaters on August 14, 2020.

The film, currently working under the title Silvercup, also stars Maddie Hasson, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Abel and George Young. Wan is directing for his Atomic Monster production label with New Line Cinema distributing.

Plot details, at this time, are still under wraps, although Bloody confirmed it’s a Giallo. We know that it’s an original movie, not part of any existing property, and that Wan is aiming for a “hard R” rating.

As John Squires noted, Italian Giallo films pre-date the American slasher, often centered on a murder-mystery involving a black-gloved killer. Notable Giallo films include The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Blood and Black Lace and Don’t Torture a Duckling.

The film will shoot in Los Angeles at the end of September.

Wan is producing with Michael Clear. Wan and Ingrid Bisu share “story by” credits.
