Being referred to as Untitled Monster Project at the moment, the film is “described as a modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller inspired by Universal’s classic monster legacy.”

Additionally, the plan is for Channing Tatum to star.

The site also notes, “The project is a bold genre reinvention of one of the studio’s most beloved characters from the Monsters Universe.”

Reid Carolin came up with the idea, with Wes Tooke writing the script.

A lot of fans of the two existing Jump Street films have been rolling their eyes at this project and I honestly have no idea why.  21 Jump Street wonderfully attacked the industry’s reboot craze.  22 Jump Street targeted Hollywood’s obsession with a never-ending parade of sequels.  The only logical place for a third outing to go is to set their sights on crossovers.  By combining its comedic might with the genre-bending ridiculousness of the MIB franchise, this third Jump Street film has the chance to give us the cinematic universe-skewering trilogy-capper that we deserve.  It’s a genius idea and I sincerely hope that they pull it off.

Word is that neither Will Smith nor Tommy Lee Jones will be reprising their roles as Agents Jay and Kay from the existing MIB trilogy.  That’s a bummer, but here’s hoping Sony can still manage to pull in a few of the supporting characters from the franchise.  I’m sure they’re hoping this will somehow revive the MIB property, so look for them to cast some actors who can carry it beyond this satirical crossover spectacular.  Personally, I’m hoping that Ice Cube’s character has somehow been promoted to head of the MIB.  If we can’t have Rip Torn screaming at agents anymore, who better to replace him than Cube?

Lucasfilm has announced that The Lego Movie directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord will be working on a new film in the Star Wars universe that will focus on a young Han Solo.

The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley!

Lord and Miller stated:

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

The script is being written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, who added:

“We’re so excited to be working with Chris and Phil, who will bring a fresh new dimension to the Star Wars universe. They’re two of the smartest, funniest and most original filmmakers around, and the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy.”

Slated for a May 25, 2018 release, the film will be executive produced by Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra.

One of the best children’s movies in the past decade is The Lego Movie, which was not only entertaining for kids, but also the adults who took them to the theater (and were forced to watch over and over again on home video).

Sony Pictures has tapped the widely sought after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directors of said Lego Movie, to write and produce an animated Spider-Man feature, dubbed the “first of it’s kind”, to be released July 20, 2018.

“It will be something quite unlike anything you have seen before,” said Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures entertainment motion picture group during the Sony Studios presentation at CinemaCon. “The highly technical term for it is, ‘It’s (expletive) awesome.’ ”

This is exciting news as doing something animated opens up unlimited opportunities. I recall Raimi having huge difficulties with both Dr. Octopus and Venom because of CGI limitations. With animation, there are no limitations – and this includes casting multiple villains/characters. And maybe, just maybe, we get to see an African American Spider-Man? That would be cool, no?! Oh, and if it’s a success, could it open the door to other animated features?! (Yes.)

The live-action Spider-Man reboot is casting now for release in July 28, 2017. The animated version will not tie-in to the existing live-action Marvel franchises.

According to her tweet, 21 Jump Street and Lego Movie duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are currently in talks to replace Ivan Reitman, who left the project after the sad passing of Harold Ramis.

This is pretty spectacular news as not only are these guys killer directors, but it also sort of indirectly confirms the speculation that Jonah Hill was in talks to play one of the new Ghost Busters.

Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver were all at one time rumored to be returning, although now the story is completely being rewritten. It’s said to be about a ragtag group of paranormal researchers reopen their notorious ghost removal service, and a new generation of Ghostbusters is brought on board to be green slimed and trained to contain the mischievous spirits.
