The upper right corner of the newly released image initially appears to show golden rays of sunlight peeking in through the clouds behind Godzilla, but the unnatural bursts of lightning and hurricane-like winds surrounding the monster (not to mention the light’s vaguely draconic shape) may actually be teasing something far more dangerous.

Die-hard kaiju fans are more than aware that Godzilla’s arch-enemy King Ghidorah is a flying golden monster often associated with storms, with this three-headed dragon also being capable of breathing out lightning-like “Gravity Beams” to counter his mortal enemy’s atomic blasts. That’s why it seems like the imagery is hinting at a second kaiju threat this time around.

Combine this information with what we see in the teaser itself, and it appears that Godzilla Minus Zero may very well involve former weapons engineer Kenji Noda using nuclear weapons to awaken another giant monster capable of defeating Godzilla for good – a decision that could have disastrous consequences for our protagonists and the rest of Japan.

This is all just speculation at this point, but Minus Zero’s tagline, “There is no third time. Everything ends here,” and official synopsis make it clear that humanity will stop at nothing to end the kaiju threat once and for all. Yamazaki has also gone on record saying that he’s a huge fan of GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, the only Godzilla movie where Ghidorah is portrayed as a hero – though I doubt that will be the case this time around.

Either way, we’ll have to wait a little longer before we know for sure. However, in the meantime, don’t forget to comment below with your own theories about where Yamazaki intends to take the story next, as we’d love to hear what our fellow Monster Movie fans have to say!

I was recently enduring (yes, that is the right choice of words) the 2012 Todd Lincoln bomb The Apparition because I’m working on a post that ranks all of the Dark Castle Entertainment horror films (What can I say? They’re guilty pleasures of mine.). While doing a bit of research on the turd, I happened across the film’s poster, which looks like this:

Based on the domestic box office gross of $9.6 million, it would seem that most of you reading this opted not to see the film. If that is the case, good on you! You dodged a bullet. The Apparition consists primarily of watching Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan walk around their house…doing nothing. At a scant 82 minutes, the film is still far too long. It feels like a short film that was stretched out to feature length. The mostly talented cast of Greene, Stan, Tom Felton and Julliana Guill are completely wasted, but I digress. I did not come here to criticize a film that doesn’t need anymore criticism (its 3% Rotten Tomatoes score is harsh enough). I came here to bring up a marketing trend that just doesn’t make any sense. Look at the poster above, and then watch the clip below. I should warn you that this video showcases the final minutes of The Apparition, but you weren’t going to watch the whole movie anyway, right?

You can’t even get mad at me for posting spoilers here, because the film’s poster is one big giant spoiler! Admittedly, the ending is the best part of The Apparition, so the studio didn’t have much else to work with. It’s almost as if Lincoln had this ending in his head and  wrote 75 pages of a screenplay just so he could get to film this one scene. The quality of the scene aside, why would any studio choose to spoil a movie’s ending with its poster? It does not make any sense.

It’s not like this is the first time this has happened either. Does anyone remember the poster for Quarantine, the 2009 remake of [REC]?

Maybe this one shouldn’t be qualified as a spoiler since Quarantine is almost a shot-for-shot remake if [REC], but how many regular Americans (and by “regular” I mean people who don’t live and breathe horror like us) do you think knew that going into the movie? This is a mean-spirited joke that isn’t particularly funny.

As you may know, The Apparition and Quarantine are not the only movies to pull this little stunt with their marketing. Here are a slew of other films over the past few decades that have deemed it necessary to feature the film’s ending in the poster:

Why do studios do this? Clearly it’s not that they think the movie is a stinker because the four posters above are all for great movies (unless you’re not a Prometheus fan, anyway). It does seem to be a lack of confidence on their part though.

For real. You all know I’m dying to see Ridley Scott’s Prometheus but this 30 second teaser kind of crosses the line. Those of you complaining about having seen too much of the film will REALLY be complaining after seeing this teaser. I’m not necessarily saying it spoils the whole movie – but it certainly gives a lot more away that anything else has. I kind of regret watching it. It’s gonna be on a lot of sites today, and I’m just giving you a heads up that it’s only for the most hardened of fans who want to know a lot going in.

“With ‘Prometheus,’ Scott creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. Spoilers are tricky territory. Different people require different amounts of information, and different people think that websites are either doing (or not doing) their job depending on the amount of information they dole out.

For example, a few hours ago I posted this article in which I discussed the ending of Season Six of “Dexter” while talking about the start date of its upcoming Seventh Season. One or two of the readers called me out for spoilers. The thing is, I haven’t even seen Season Six – I just kind of assumed that four or so months later the ending of the season of a very popular show would somehow be ingrained in our pop culture vernacular.

Not that I think people who don’t want surf spoiled are wrong – they’re not. Everyone should have a chance to enjoy their favorite shows in the way they see fit. At the same time, this study argues that spoilers don’t affect the way we enjoy our entertainment. But since we participate in a culture that discusses this stuff 24/7 – there have to be rules.

And those rules are what the below video spells out. Of course some of them are completely ridiculous – but I actually agree with a few of the base points made here. And we even have Julie Benz from “Dexter” in it to help spell things out. Thanks to Jonathan Barkan for forwarding this along.

I hate spoilers, I hate them more than you can even imagine. While owning a monster horror website has it’s perks, the biggest flaw is that pretty much no matter what I do, or hard hard I try, I will eventually have something ruined for me.

Just when I was getting back into AMC’s “The Walking Dead” (the previous 3 episodes were pretty good), websites across the globe ruined season 2’s finale. While I’m not against sharing spoilers, it disturbs me that some sites would post such a spoiler in the subject header, or tweet about it 500 times in an attempt to get more hits. Well, I had the finale of season 2 ruined for me, and I’m sure many of you were hit with the same bomb.

I didn’t run a story on it the first time, because it pissed me off to no end. This time around I attempted to ignore it, only to wake up to a flurry of readers pointing me to the spoiler and asking why I’m not reporting it. We report nearly everything, so I guess I can’t ignore it any longer (as much as I want to). But be warned, the following will ruin the big finale AMC had planned for their comic adaptation…
