McDonald’s is partnering with Hello Kitty creator Sanrio and Toho Co., the owner of Godzilla, to launch a limited-time Happy Meal combining both franchises for the first time ever. The collaboration arrives at all US locations on August 18.

McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin shared the first teaser for the exciting partnership on August 10, calling it “one of the best collections of Happy Meal toys I’ve ever seen” and “Hall of fame collectibles in the making.”

The meal arrives just as Godzilla prepares to stomp back into theaters this November with the release of Godzilla Minus Zero.

Get ready to collect them all, as the lineup features adorably cute Sanrio characters cosplaying as iconic Toho monsters.

The eight Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal toys include:

Cheetos has partnered with Blumhouse, horror’s definitive studio across film, TV, games, and live experiences, to bring flavor and fear together in an unexpected new way with the upcoming release of The Flavor of Fear, brand new Cheetos Sweet Phantom Heat flavored Puffs.

A countdown clock has popped up on the internet this week, with the unique Cheetos x Blumhouse collaboration set to launch in 35 days… just in time for the Halloween season.

Dexerto reveals a bit more about the collab this afternoon.

The website explains that the terrifyingly tasty Sweet Phantom Heat Puffs are a “limited time snack designed to fizz, tingle and even leave your mouth feeling numb.”

Dexerto details, “the new Cheetos begin with a sweet cinnamon sugar flavor before the heat gradually takes over. The puffs were inspired by compounds found in Sichuan pepper, creating tingling, fizzing and numbing sensations that become more noticeable as people continue eating.”

The website Delish previews in an early review of the upcoming snack, “The sweet and spicy work together really well, and at first bite, you only get those cinnamon sugar notes. The longer I kept it in my mouth, I did notice a very subtle fizziness. Then the heat builds and builds, finally having you breathe fire. But for some reason, I just kept going back for more.”

This year’s event sees Art the Clown arriving on the Universal Studios Backlot with his blood-soaked bag of presents in tow. But when he realizes he’s too early for Christmas, he hijacks the Terror Tram to start a ho-ho-horrific holiday tradition all his own.

Ice Nine Kills will officially score the experience, putting a dark twist on classic Christmas songs.

It marks a reunion, as Ice Nine Kills previously teamed with the Terrifier team on “A Work of Art,” the band’s official song from Terrifier 3.

“We are forever honored that Terrifier writer/director Damien Leone and his team invited us to play in their sandbox of bloodshed. Art himself, David Howard Thornton, killed it in the ‘A Work of Art’ music video, and we’ve had Damien and several of his cast members at our Silver Scream Cons every year so far. Halloween Horror Nights is among our favorite destinations each season, and our fans love it, too. This is yet another natural step forward in our unnatural world of horror,” frontman Spencer Charnas said in a statement.

While the Terror Tram is exclusive to Hollywood, Universal Orlando Resort guests can encounter Art the Clown, along with the Killer Klowns from Outer Space, in scare zone Downtown Clowntown.

Halloween Horror Nights runs select nights at Universal Orlando Resort from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, November 1, and at Universal Studios Hollywood from Thursday, September 3 through Sunday, November 1.

Variety reports this week, “New Jersey entertainment and retail center American Dream will open a real-life Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location in East Rutherford, N.J., in 2027.”

“The immersive restaurant experience is a functional reimagining of the game’s location, designed in collaboration with IP holder ScottGames,” Variety’s report explains.

The quick-service experience will feature arcade games in addition to food, along with two animatronic stage shows: Freddy and the Fazbear Band, and Pirate Cove with Foxy the Pirate.

“The only way this experience succeeds is if it’s created by a team that knows Five Nights at Freddy’s inside and out,” said American Dream’s Atreyu Alcantar. “The animatronic show has to be authentic. The food has to be high quality. And above all else, we’re not building a set that looks like Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza – we’re building Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.”

Alcantar adds, “This experience will immerse longtime fans in the world they’ve imagined for years while welcoming an entirely new audience to discover it for the first time.”

The Five Nights at Freddy’s property was created by Scott Cawthon, with the franchise growing to include video games, graphic novels, novels, and of course, two hit feature films.

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is the central location of the property, where animatronic characters including Freddy Fazbear come to life to murder anyone who dares spend the night.

“Cute meets kaiju,” the fast food chain’s official account reads today, teasing a unique Happy Meal event that’ll unite Sanrio with Toho.

The accompanying video shows a Happy Meal sailing the ocean in a tiny boat as a massive kaiju rises from the water behind it. The kaiju? A Hello Kitty wearing a Godzilla headpiece.

McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin shared the first teaser on August 10, calling it “one of the best collections of Happy Meal toys I’ve ever seen” and “Hall of fame collectibles in the making.”

Huin confirmed that the Happy Meal collab and its toys are coming to the US, but no other details have been revealed as of yet. That includes which monsters are joining Godzilla on this collab.

Recent Happy Meal takeovers have included Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 and KPop Demon Hunters.

The meal arrives just as Godzilla prepares to stomp back into theaters this November with the release of Godzilla Minus Zero.

• Scary Artmas, the drop-off, where Vicki Heyes hands Art a fresh chainsaw, the Little Pale Girl takes his severed doll head, and Nutcracker characters rev their own saws to the Nutcracker Suite.
• Art’s Christmas Tree Farm, whose motto is “we slice ’em, chop ’em, trim ’em, top ’em,” with intestines strung as garland and heads used as tree toppers.
• The 12 Slays of Christmas, the Bates Motel redecorated as a Christmas party Art crashes, ending in a chainsaw showdown with a Snow Angel version of Sienna Shaw.
• Art’s Christmas Cafe, where a Maitre D Art and his sous chefs plate holiday horrors alongside a Christmas Ham and a Christmas Turkey.
• Hell for the Holidays, a blacklight zone at the War of the Worlds set full of Clockwork Orange-style evil snowmen.
• Santa Art Is Coming to Town, where Art and the Little Pale Girl shoot down Santa’s sleigh with a World War II flak gun, surrounded by Jack Frost, the Snow Queen, a Christmas Death Angel, and toys escaped from Santa’s workshop.
• Art’s Workshop, a gingerbread house on the outside and a gory parts shop on the inside, its doors labeled dismemberment, decapitation, and disembowelment, where Santa’s corpse is taken apart.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to original Christmas music from Ice Nine Kills.

The film, a box office sensation that scared up $488 million to become the highest grossing horror movie of the year, will be featured at Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood this year.

Obsession isn’t getting a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights this year, to be clear, but actors dressed up as Nikki Freeman will be roaming around Universal Studios.

Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director John Murdy previewed at Midsummer Scream last night, “Nikki’s out there somewhere. You kind of have to get into a ‘Where’s Waldo?’ mentality. She’s out there somewhere and she might be looking for her next obsession.”

Murdy also noted at the event last night that Obsession was a very last minute addition to Halloween Horror Nights this year, but they rallied the troops and were able to make it happen.

Halloween Horror Nights is typically planned out far in advance of the event each year, but when a movie like Obsession releases halfway through the year and becomes a bona fide pop culture sensation, well, it’s safe to say it was a mad scramble for the HHN team.

Could this set the stage for a full-on Obsession haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights in the future? Next year, perhaps? We’ve got a feeling that’s a very strong possibility…

Fan-favorite creature feature host Larry Kurtzberg (better known as H.R. Bloodengutz) is back in the original new house H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! Discover Universal has unveiled a sneak peek at the Halloween-themed terror in story.

Halloween Horror Nights show director Ramón Paradoa previously gave Bloody Disgusting the scoop on this sequel house to 2011’s H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror, teasing the horror host’s return to WKNB Television Station for a final Halloween Special of gruesome proportions.

“What I’ll say about that without giving too much away is that there are seven movies that we’re presenting as scenes in the haunted house; seven movies that are a part of the marathon. Some of those movies are callbacks to HHN’s past,” Paradoa explained.

A Halloween Fright-Tacular! will take guests through multiple different visions of the holiday: “Once we knew that the holiday of Halloween and the world of horror cinema was our playground, we knew that there was a lot to tap into,” Paradoa said. “There are so many different Halloween-based tropes that people know and love. We were really inspired by that, and we wanted to make sure that when you’re being transported into the worlds of these movies, although they have the throughline of Halloween, they’re all completely unique from each other. That they all have a very distinct feel, and they present environments and characters that again, are rooted in what you’d expect out of classic Halloween textures, but are different from each other.”

The new images give a glimpse at some of the scenes guests will step into, from monochromatic visions of terror to a ghoulish Tiki oasis.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights event begins on Friday, August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and Thursday, September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Tickets are on sale now.

This fall, Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens crosses into dangerous territory with the introduction of two all-new haunted houses inspired by the Sony Pictures movie, Anaconda.

While some stories stay on the screen, these slithering haunts pull guests inside…

Set in the world of Anaconda, guests are sent deep into the Amazon to search for a missing film crew, quickly turning into a fight for survival. At Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, guests will experience Anaconda: Fear Has No Escape and at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, visitors will encounter Anaconda: Dead on Arrival.

The haunted attractions offer two unique tales while honoring the legend of an iconic film. The all-new Anaconda inspired houses will premiere on September 11 at both parks.

A few hours later — and right next door — The Mystic Museum (3204 W Magnolia Blvd) will host an afterparty for its 21+ fans featuring dancing, frozen frights, a costume contest, killer photo ops, a mini-bar with film-themed drinks, exclusive merchandise, and plenty of frigid surprises. This party begins at 8 p.m. PST and requires a ticket.

Written by Roth and longtime friend Noah Belson, Ice Cream Man is set in the idyllic summer town of Bayleen Bay, where sheer terror ensues as an ice cream man serves up sweet delights — with horrifying results.

Ari Millen (“Orphan Black”) stars in the titular role along with Benjamin Byron Davis (Red Dead Redemption), Karen Cliche (Thanksgiving), Dylan Hawco, Sarah Abbott, Shiloh O’Reilly, Kiori Mirza Waldman, Charlie Zeltzer (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Charlie Storey.

Snoop Dogg — who’s also working with Roth on Don’t Go in That House, Bitch — is contributing music to the film, along with composer Brandon Roberts (Thanksgiving).

The prosthetic makeup effects are handled by Oscar winner Adrien Morot (The Whale, Thanksgiving) and Steve Newburn (Frankenstein, Thanksgiving).

Ice Cream Man is Executive Produced by Grammy-winning rap icon Nas.

It’s worth noting that Roth’s Ice Cream Man has nothing to do with the ’90s movie starring Clint Howard. A sequel to that film, however, has been trying to get off the ground for years.

The addition of Jason marks another major horror franchise joining Hellbreak‘s expanding universe, which already includes several Universal Monsters properties such as Dracula and The Bride of Frankenstein, as well as A Quiet Place, Jaws and more.

“From the start, Hellbreak was built to bring together the icons that define the genre, and it simply wouldn’t feel complete without Jason,” said Doug Wadleigh, Spin Master’s President of Toys. “His addition to the first set marks a major milestone for the game and for fans who have been waiting to see these legends collide.”

Developed in collaboration with Ghost Galaxy,  Hellbreak is a horror trading card game where the gameplay revolves around the idea of a “Monster Sandbox,” an arena in which fan-favorite characters from horror history fight to the bitter end. Angry Orchard Hard Cider joins forces with the Scream franchise this Halloween, launching a limited release “Thriller Pack” of hard cider featuring a brand new Ghost Face flavor!

Releasing in August, the Thriller Pack from Scream and Angry Orchard features 12 cans of hard cider in total, with four different flavors that each feature fun Halloween names.

The full lineup includes…

• Caramel Apple Curse
• Headless Pumpkin
• Blood Orange
• Mystery Caller

It’s the Mystery Caller can that’s particularly special for Scream fans, as the can is emblazoned with the iconic Ghost Face mask. The mask is also featured prominently on the packaging for the Thriller Pack, which glows in the dark to make the mask pop even further.

No word yet on what the “Mystery Caller” flavor actually is, however.

Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness takes shape as the newest Halloween Horror Nights haunted house, beginning August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

As for what to expect? “Ozzy Osbourne’s shocking image was as haunting as his heavy metal hits. Now you’ll enter the Prince of Darkness’s kingdom where music and mayhem collide — and everything’s gone off the rails. Veer through a decaying world ripped straight from Ozzy’s lyrics in this haunted house inspired by one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest legends. Let the madness begin!“

The announcement arrives just past the one-year anniversary of the rock legend’s passing on June 22, 2025. Osbourne is credited with pioneering heavy metal music, beginning with the band he co-founded in 1968, Black Sabbath. The band’s name was inspired by Mario Bava’s gothic horror classic of the same name.

The new house joins an already packed lineup that includes haunted attractions for Sinners,  Hellraiser, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!, and so much more.

Halloween Horror Nights runs select nights at Universal Orlando Resort from Friday, August 28 through Sunday, November 1, and at Universal Studios Hollywood from Thursday, September 3 through Sunday, November 1. The official Halloween Horror Nights Orlando account on Twitter recently teased the return of everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial circus denizens, and today they’ve confirmed the Klowns will appear in the new scare zone Downtown Clowntown.

They won’t be alone, either.

The Killer Klowns are teaming up with Terrifier‘s Art the Clown along with other clownfolk to terrorize guests.

The description for Downtown Clowntown reads: “The city that never sleeps becomes a waking nightmare when it’s overrun by Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Art the Clown and other clownsfolk who can’t wait to tear you limb from limb.“

The Klowns previously appeared in a Scare Zone in 2018 and a full-on house at Halloween Horror Nights 2019. Art the Clown received his own Terrifier maze in 2025, and free-roamed Universal Studios Orlando. This year, they’ll join returning HHN icon Jack the Clown, who’s been designated as one of the Ringmasters for this year’s event.

On that note, Halloween Horror Nights 35 tickets and packages are now on sale!

The iconic cereals are returning with newly designed packaging and the reimagined puppets created by the Jim Henson Company, first introduced last year. This time, fans can flip over each box to create their own puppet.

The limited-edition collection of Monsters cereals will be available in retailers nationwide later this month.

Super fans can score a limited-edition fuzzy Count Chocula cereal box, designed to replicate the fleece-like texture of the puppets, available exclusively on Walmart.com for $7.76 starting October 1.

It sounds like they’re teasing either another Scare Zone or a situation where costumed Klowns actors will be prowling around the park at night, but we expect to learn more very soon.

Any appearance from the Killer Klowns at Halloween Horror Nights is a good thing!

Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins will celebrate the Netflix series’ 10th anniversary with a special experience that takes guests on an emotional journey through all five seasons. The show will feature memorable scenes from throughout the series projected across towering water screens, accompanied by dynamic lighting effects and immersive audio featuring popular selections from the series’ original score.

This marks the first time that HHN has created an entire lagoon show around a single franchise.

All‑new limited-release merchandise inspired by the “Stranger Things” haunted house will be available. Home Depot is launching its 2026 Halloween collection online and on its app beginning Thursday, July 16, 2026, followed by an in-store rollout that’s set to begin in August.

We’ll be spotlighting some of the new decor in the coming days here on Bloody Disgusting, and we kick things off this morning with a sneak peek at some new Gremlins animatronics!

You may recall that Home Depot had released a Stripe animatronic for Halloween 2025, and this year Stripe is getting an upgrade with the brand new Mohawk animatronic.

Mohawk was one of the main antagonists featured in Joe Dante’s Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and the 3.5-foot animatronic from Home Depot will feature light up LED eyes.

The animated Gremlins decoration likely also speaks phrases from the movie and features both head and mouth movements, but we don’t have full information at this time.

Additionally, Home Depot will be releasing a 3-piece Gremlins animatronic set, which will feature three different Gremlins characters from Joe Dante’s original classic.

It looks like all three come together as a connected set, with one Gremlin eating popcorn and another wearing 3D glasses. The third character is the memorable Flasher Gremlin!

Expect to learn more when these go up for grabs from Home Depot beginning July 16!

Kong x Godzilla: The Ride opens up for business July 24 in Seoul, South Korea!

Legendary’s James Ngo previews, “This is going to be Lotte’s biggest investment as a ride in the park. It’s going to be the marquee ride and really the main attraction for everything. From the moment guests come to line up, they are being recruited to join Monarch. That’s kind of our opening human touchpoint for the guests to be able to step foot into this world.”

“Kong really guides them through Hollow Earth and all the experiences, while also protecting them against all the dangers that they would find in Hollow Earth,” Ngo continues. “There are massive screens, a lot of amazing media that we’ve created with our partner. There are physical sets as well for our Titans and animatronics at massive, massive scale.

“The combination of real-world things with the media that works together in order to enhance the guest experience makes it extremely immersive.”

Ngo also notes in his chat with Variety, “This is the right time in the franchise for us to bring these major experiential projects to the fans so that they can experience it in real life. We’re going into our sixth movie next year; we have a TV show. So the franchise is kind of at its apex right now in terms of all the different media projects.”

On the big screen, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. recently announced the title of the sixth Monsterverse film: Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which is expected sometime in 2027.

John Massari, the composer of the iconic score for Killer Klowns from Outer Space, presents the 3rd annual Killer Klowns Punk Rock Fest at Gardena Cinema on Saturday, July 11!

The special event will include live music as well as a 38th anniversary screening of Killer Klowns from Outer Space with an introduction from composer John Massari himself.

Also included is a rare screening of Mike Jittlov’s The Wizard of Speed and Time (1988), as well as a Killer Klowns cosplay contest with a grand prize 3-day, 2-night stay in Vegas.

The live bands include Radioactive Chicken Heads, S8NT Elektric, and Sik Sik Siks, with a special guest appearance from Leonard Graves Phillips of The Dickies.

It’s taking place Saturday, July 11, from 2-10:30 PM at Gardena Cinema in Gardena, CA.

The experience is included with General Admission tickets to Universal Horror Unleashed.

Guests will venture through six story-driven zones inspired by the world of Resident Evil. Expect to see the iconic characters, too.

As the press release details: “Beginning their journey in Zone 1: Arrival, they are greeted with a battered “Welcome to Raccoon City” sign. As emergency lights flash, police scramble to contain the rapidly spreading outbreak caused by Umbrella Corporation’s T-Virus. From there, fans move to Zone 2: Mission, where they arrive at the Raccoon City Police Department, ready to solve a series of interactive puzzles. As they race against the clock, they’ll enter Zone 3: Infection, where they must enter the heart of the infected zone – a quarantined spot in Raccoon City where the last remaining citizens have transformed into ravenous, flesh-eating zombies. Amid the chaos, they’ll see familiar faces like the infamous Ada Wong.

“Pushing through the outbreak, they’ll enter Zone 4: Combat and come face-to-face with iconic characters from the Resident Evil franchise, including Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy. As terror turns into adrenaline, guests will be at the forefront of the battles between these heroic characters, surrounding zombies and notorious villains. Once the dust settles, guests will be invited to take photos and interact with the characters. As they approach Zone 5: Escape, guests enter the final stretch of their journey, where they must survive the final mission.

“Those who survive will enter Zone 6: Aftermath, where they can step inside Umbrella Corporation and dine on limited-time themed food and cocktails for purchase inspired by the T-Virus and its mutations – but they must be on the lookout, as they never know who may emerge around the corner…”

As for Raccoon City-themed snacks, feast on the following if you survive:

This terrifying new experience will transport fans into the twisted world first brought to life by Clive Barker, beginning Friday, August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and Thursday, September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Since its debut in 1987, Hellraiser has become one of horror’s most influential franchises, introducing audiences to the chilling mythology of the Lament Configuration puzzle box – which, when solved, opens a portal to another dimension inhabited by the ritualistically torturous beings, the Cenobites, and their leader, the iconic Pinhead. 

Now, for the first time at Halloween Horror Nights, guests will experience this nightmare personally in haunted houses on both coasts that draw from the first three films: Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth.

Additionally, legendary Pinhead actor Doug Bradley will reprise his character and lend his voice to both haunted houses in Hollywood and Orlando!

The press release notes that the terrifying experience begins as guests enter the iconic Lament Configuration puzzle box, unwittingly summoning the Cenobites and opening a gateway to a diabolical dimension where unspeakable horrors await. “From the shadowy attic in Frank Cotton’s family home where he was first cast to Hell, to the disturbing Channard Institute where the legendary box lures guests with its promise of forbidden pleasures, fans will encounter haunting moments and settings from the Hellraiser franchise at every turn. Their unnerving journey ultimately lands them in The Labyrinth where Pinhead and the Cenobites lie in wait for new souls to torment for eternity.”

Of course, the announcement also brings news of Hellraiser HHN merch. New limited-release merchandise inspired by the Hellraiser haunted house, including a T-shirt and a Pinhead acrylic figure which can be added to the separately sold Infernal Carnival collectible display, are now available at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood and will launch tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1 at 9am PST on shopUniversal.com.

This year’s Halloween Horror Nights event begins on Friday, August 28, at Universal Orlando Resort and on Thursday, September 3, at Universal Studios Hollywood.

First up was our exclusive preview of sequel house H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! In the wake of its announcement comes two new originals that will unleash caged cannibals and cyborg carnage.

In MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals, “A defunct zoo is now the deadly domain of warring cannibal factions that have taken their animal instincts to extremes. They’re territorial. They’re hungry. And you’re lunch.”

In Cybergoria, “Awaken thousands of years in the future in this haunted house and brave a cold world driven by machines with a singular goal: to make you live forever, even if it kills you.”

These houses join previously announced haunts for Sinners and Stranger Things 5. 

Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow will be your Ringmasters of Fear for Halloween Horror Nights 2026, which marks the landmark 35th annual event at Universal Orlando. The original HHN characters will also star in their own haunted house at HHN 35, titled Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control.

Paranormal Activity: A New Story Live on Stage is coming to Broadway for a limited 20-week engagement. The first preview performance scheduled for Friday, August 14, at the August Wilson Theatre, remains in place. Now the play will officially open on Tuesday, August 25, moving up from its initial September 15 launch date.

The official synopsis: “James and Lou move from Chicago to London to escape their past, but they soon discover that places aren’t haunted, people are.”

Directed by Felix Barrett and written by playwright Levi Holloway, the stage show weaves “an original story inspired by the film franchise, Paranormal Activity reimagines the modern ghost story with an intimacy that only live theatre can provide.”

The Broadway production will follow a strictly limited pre-Broadway engagement in Boston at the Emerson Colonial Theatre from July 11 through July 30. 

Both the Broadway and Boston casts will feature Cher Álvarez, Travis A. Knight, Shannon Cochran, and Andrea Syglowski. Understudies will be Caron Buinis, Caroline Hendricks, and Michael Holding.

Álvarez will play Lou, and Knight plays James.

Paranormal Activity: A New Story Live on Stage premiered at the Leeds Playhouse in the UK before transferring to the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End, where it received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination this year for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.

Original Paranormal Activity stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat attended the Paranormal Activity play last year, and they both shared their thoughts over on Instagram.

Katie Featherston raved, “What a truly fun night seeing the new Paranormal Activity at the Ahmanson Theatre! We had a blast- so scary and so fun. The design and production was amazing and the cast did a fantastic job. Congrats to all involved!”

Bloodengutz has escaped from prison to return to WKNB Television Station for a final Halloween Special of gruesome proportions.”

Halloween Horror Nights show director Ramón Paradoa gave Bloody Disgusting the exclusive details on what to expect.

The Lore Behind A Halloween Fright-Tacular!

For its 35th edition, Halloween Horror Nights is bringing back fan favorites like Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow. That also includes the return of a certain creature feature host, who was first unleashed in 2011’s H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: Holidays of Horror before making a brief appearance in 2021’s Welcome to SCarey: Horror in the Heartland.

“This is a sequel to an HHN classic,” Paradoa explains. “And the return of a very beloved character for our fan base. We’ve played with the idea of creating more story within H.R. Bloodengutz’s lore for a while, and this year the stars aligned, and it finally felt like the right opportunity. It’s been 15 years since that first haunted house in 2011, so we liked the idea of 15 years later, Carey’s favorite creature feature host returns for another bout of fun.”

This new house picks up 15 years later from Holidays of Horror‘s conclusion, where H.R. Bloodengutz has been incarcerated in the Carey Penitentiary since. Now, “he has finally broken out of prison on Halloween Day. He has returned to the WKNB television studio to present a Halloween marathon of straight-to-TV Halloween films that were his favorites that he never got to showcase back when he was working 15 years prior.”

In other words, the HHN horror host is curating his own holiday horror marathon for you, the guest.

Paradoa also provides a handy recap of H.R. Bloodengutz’s first outing, just to illustrate what kind of maniac is being unleashed on HHN 35. “In the events of that first haunted house, he ended up taking his producer hostage when he found out that his show and himself were getting the ax. He didn’t take that news very well. He decided to hold his producer hostage, to host that marathon that we saw the first go around, and things ended horribly, and ultimately ended with his arrest. He’s coming back 15 years later to have a little bit of Halloween fun this time, focusing specifically on the holiday of Halloween.”

The Return of Horror Host H.R. Bloodengutz

Among the many reasons Halloween Horror Nights remains such a holiday fixture is the creative team’s dedication to detail. That’s quite a feat when you consider the intricate lore developed over 35 years.

One key detail to note with H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! is that not only is it tracking the horror host’s story progression, it’ll also feature the same actor portraying him.

Paradoa reminds that it’s been over a decade since Larry Kurtzburg snapped in his 2011 haunt; time and a prison stay have altered the horror host as we last saw him. “He has a new look to him that is leaning into his imprisonment. I’ll leave it at that,” the HHN show director teases.

“Since he’s escaping straight from prison and returning to the derelict studio, he tries to piece together his former look as much as he can, but there’s a fun little twist to how he looks this go around. And he’s older because we were able to work with the original actor who played Bloodengutz in 2011, to reprise his role,” Paradoa notes. “So, we’re getting an authentic, older version of the character in this new haunted house that is being played by the original actor, which again, our fans are going to love.”

What can fans expect with his appearance this time?

H.R. Bloodengutz will host one demented Halloween marathon. “What I’ll say about that without giving too much away is that there are seven movies that we’re presenting as scenes in the haunted house; seven movies that are a part of the marathon. Some of those movies are callbacks to HHN’s past.”

In true horror host fashion, “You’re going to get to see him in video format in between each of those movies, and he’s going to essentially usher you into the next movie.” H.R. Bloodengutz will also introduce the house itself and its backstory in queue line videos, too, like the original 2011 haunt, “where H.R. Bloodengutz told the story of each of the movies that he was presenting, and then his own story. We’re doing a queue line video for our guests, outside of this haunted house, where they’re going to get to see H.R. Bloodengutz in this new role, telling this new story, and preparing us for the Halloween Frightacular. Again, that is in collaboration with the original man himself, so we’re very excited for our fans to experience that.”

A True Halloween Extravanza

Unlike Holiday of Horrors, A Halloween Fright-Tacular! is dedicated solely to Halloween. With H.R. Bloodengutz’s demented marathon, that’s seven different ways to explore the holiday, something that Paradoa and the creative team really took to heart. The test, of course, was ensuring Halloween still feels fresh.

“Once we knew that the holiday of Halloween and the world of horror cinema was our playground, we knew that there was a lot to tap into,” Paradoa said. “There are so many different Halloween-based tropes that people know and love. We were really inspired by that, and we wanted to make sure that when you’re being transported into the worlds of these movies, although they have the throughline of Halloween, they’re all completely unique from each other. That they all have a very distinct feel, and they present environments and characters that again, are rooted in what you’d expect out of classic Halloween textures, but are different from each other.”

“To tease you on some of those kinds of things, for example, one of the movies that he’s presenting is a black and white zombie film in an old graveyard.”

This house will cover just about every aspect of the beloved holiday. “We have some classic Halloween textures there. Another one is a Halloween party that is taking place inside a tiki bar that is overtaken by monsters of the night. So, different things like that, where we have different aggressors and different environments, but they’re all tied into the world of Halloween and kind of what you’d expect out of that Halloween comfort food kind of feel when it comes to monsters, zombies, skeletons, ghosts, those kinds of things. So, each film, each scene is going to feel very unique, but all based in the world of Halloween, which is really fun.”

As a massive horror fan himself, nailing the spirit of Halloween was of utmost importance to Paradoa. “It is all centered around that holiday, and I think this house almost being representative of the holiday within our slate we were really, really excited about, so I wanted to make sure that it felt authentic and captured that magical feeling of Halloween in every way we could.”

H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! may be a sequel house, but one made thoroughly accessible to newcomers through its unique setup and Halloween atmospherics.

Paradoa sums it up well: “The great thing about this house, of course, is that it’s expanding upon a lore that we established 15 years ago, but it also pays tribute to a couple of different things. It pays tribute to the idea of a classic Halloween haunted house. We call these houses Halloween comfort food, and we’ve done them throughout the course of our history, and this house checks off that vibe.”

Rick Baker is one of the artform’s true legends, and we’ve learned this week that the legendary artist is being honored with the Vision Award at this year’s Locarno Film Festival.

The festival announced in a press release, “With the Vision Award presented by Ticinomoda for Rick Baker, the Festival pays tribute to a remarkable figure who has been responsible for shaping some of cinema’s most fantastical creations. Baker will receive the award in Piazza Grande during the evening of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, as well as present, within the Festival programme, two key films from his career: An American Werewolf in London (1981) and The Nutty Professor (1996).”

“From his early make-up work on genre films in the 1970s to his sophisticated creature and character designs for large-scale studio productions, Rick Baker has forged a new visual grammar for cinematic metamorphosis,” Locarno adds, “earning him a record number of Academy Awards for Best Makeup and cementing his status as a reference point for generations of artists.”

The statement continues, “Over his long career, Rick Baker has transformed Michael Jackson into a zombie in Thriller and turned Jim Carrey into the Grinch. He has been responsible for crafting unforgettable werewolves to some of the most realistic gorillas ever created for film, each time redefining the audience’s sense of what is real and what is imagined on the big screen. In receiving the Vision Award, the Festival pays tribute to a remarkable figure who has been responsible for shaping some of cinema’s most fantastical creations.”

Locarno’s Artistic Director Giona A. Nazzaro writes, “Rick Baker was responsible for a Copernican revolution in cinema: visionary and revolutionary, he opened new paths for the imagination of entire generations, showing what it truly means to witness physical transmutation on the big screen. His filmography includes collaborations with George Lucas and David Cronenberg, Brian De Palma and Joe Dante, Tim Burton and Peter Jackson, John Carpenter and Mike Nichols, among many others. Presenting the Vision Award in Locarno to a pioneer and innovator like him, an absolute genius and incomparable craftsman, is an honour through which the Festival celebrates the infinite possibilities of cinema and its bag of tricks.”

The 79th Locarno Film Festival will take place from August 5-15, 2026.

The Vision Award pays tribute to artists whose creative work has contributed to the renewal of the cinematographic imaginary and has been given to masters of special effects, editors, sound designers, composers, musicians, cinematographers, and multidisciplinary artists.

Fans will confront the terror they’ve seen on screen as they navigate iconic locations and encounter favorite characters—all while evading a host of horrifying supernatural creatures…including Vecna himself.

The harrowing adventure will immediately transport guests to the town of Hawkins, as the barrier between reality and the supernatural is collapsing to unleash an ominous darkness. As visitors make their way through familiar scenes, including the Wheeler House, Hawkins National Laboratory, the MAC-Z military base, as well as the haunting realms of the Upside Down and the Abyss, they’ll be hunted at every turn by Demogorgons and other sinister creatures. Makeup effects legend Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead,” “Creepshow”) has reimagined the iconic Crypt Keeper puppet from the classic HBO television series, and Shudder has shared photos of Crypt Keeper voice actor John Kassir posing with the new puppet!

Shudder captions the social post, “Horror FX legend Greg Nicotero joins forces with the unmistakable voice of John Kassir to bring a new Crypt Keeper puppet to life.”

The big question here is… WHY?! Was this just a fun project for Nicotero, as a fan of the series? Or is Shudder teasing that the puppet was created for a reason? It’s likely the former, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating that Shudder has something planned for “Tales from the Crypt” beyond merely streaming the seven existing seasons of the HBO television series.

A “Tales from the Crypt” reboot series has never been able to get off the ground due to complicated rights issues, but perhaps Shudder has been able to untangle that mess? The reopening of the Tales from the Crypt content archive on Shudder was made possible by a collaboration with Dark Castle Entertainment, Lauren Shuler Donner, and Walter Hill (Tales from the Crypt Holdings), so it’s possible they’ve been able to work something more out…

For now, all seven seasons are presented fully uncut and uncensored on Shudder. And that’s good enough for us!

Inspired by the EC Comics tales, each episode of “Tales from the Crypt” offers a self-contained story hosted by the Crypt Keeper (Kassir), a wisecracking corpse known for his macabre puns. With its signature unrestricted gore, profanity, and dark irony, the show’s episode styles range from comedy to drama and deliver twisted moral lessons where “bad people” meet poetically horrific ends – and issues like greed, lust, and moral decay lead to tragic consequences.

The original HBO series featured a long list of Hollywood A-list guest stars, including Brad Pitt, Demi Moore, Michael J. Fox, John Lithgow, Christopher Reeve, Catherine O’Hara, Steve Buscemi, Brooke Shields, and many more. The talent also extended behind the camera, with notable directors including Robert Zemeckis, Tobe Hooper, and William Friedkin, as well as Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Michael J. Fox.

Deadline reports, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow will complete its run at London’s Phoenix Theatre on December 27, 2026, and at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre on January 3, 2027.”

“The production, which cost more than an estimated $20 million to stage on Broadway, has not recouped its capitalization,” Deadline notes in their report this afternoon.

“Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement, “When the legendary Stephen Daldry first came to us with the idea of making a Stranger Things play, we were stunned — both by the fact that Stephen wanted to do this, and that he believed it could work. And boy, did it work.”

“We remain awed by what Stephen, Kate Trefry, Justin Martin, and all the brilliant behind-the-scenes wizards were able to pull off: cinematic theater unlike anything else out there,” the statement continues. “Their incredible work drew audiences from all over — a majority of whom had never even been to a Broadway show before. We’d also like to give a standing ovation to the incredibly gifted actors who stepped into these roles — including the Tony-nominated Louis McCartney — and to the fans, who made each and every performance so memorable.”

Produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions, Stranger Things: The First Shadow is directed by Stephen Daldry, co-directed by Justin Martin, and written by Kate Trefry.

The stage play explores the origin story of Henry Creel/Vecna. In 1959 Hawkins, Indiana, the Creel family seeks a fresh start, especially their teenage son Henry, who is eager to escape his troubled past. Initially, things go well — he finds friendship and joins the school play.

But when a wave of shocking crimes strikes the town, Henry is forced to confront a terrifying truth: is there something inside him that connects him to the horrors unfolding around him?

As this thrilling mystery races forward, shadows of the past are unleashed, and the town of Hawkins faces the ultimate question: can the power of friendship outshine the darkness within?

The show opened on the West End in 2023 before beginning its Broadway run in April 2025.

While the press release is tight-lipped on story details, it does appear to be a suitable aquatic nightmare for this special rum release.

 Saltspray also marks Macabre’s third collab. The first Macabre release, Rare, Fine & Limited, was a sotol accompanied by a novella by modern master Mike Flanagan, and the second, Hell Is Not Mocked, was a Texas whiskey with a story by best-selling author Christopher Buehlman.

Macabre is also behind the immensely popular Ghost Face Vodka, which will be available nationwide this fall.

Keith David was honored with the 2,847th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 4 at 11:30 am PT. David received his star in the category of Motion Pictures. Joining emcee Ryan Bathe were Mayor Karen Bass, Lynn Whitfield, John Carpenter and John C. McGinley.

John Carpenter raved that Keith David is “an astonishing actor,” and both Carpenter’s speech and Keith David’s speech have made their way onto YouTube thanks to MaximoTV.

“I am trying to come up with a way to sum up Keith,” Carpenter told the crowd. “And I would say grace. That sums up the character of Keith David. My friend, I love you very much.”

“You deserve this,” Carpenter ended his quick speech.

“This for me has been an incredible year,” Keith David said during his own speech. “Today I turn 7-0. All my life I wanted to be an actor. I had a dream. And I got to pursue that dream. What you’re bearing witness to today is a man living his dream. Today is a great day. Filled with gratitude and blessings overflowing. But even on my not-so-great days, I’m still living my dream.”

Keith David, born and raised in New York City, is a classically trained graduate of New York’s High School of Performing Arts and the Juilliard School. His work has earned him Screen Actors Guild and Tony Award nominations, as well as an NAACP Image Award and three Emmy Awards.

A frequent collaborator with documentarian Ken Burns, David has won three Emmys for his voiceover performances in Jackie Robinson, The War, and Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson. Keith also lent his narrational expertise to the documentaries Muhammad Ali and Leonardo da Vinci by Ken Burns, as well as the forthcoming Crime & Punishment in America.
